Far Cry New Dawn does everything you'd expect from a Far Cry title. However, it failed to deliver the same level of polish and enjoyment its predecessor enjoyed, and while it’s still packed with buckets of fun, I couldn't help shake the feeling that I’ve done all this before.

New Dawn is a clearing of the air after Far Cry 5, but calling it a "new dawn" is preposterous. What we have here is a sideways hop, a purgatory of a sequel in a series that has no idea what to do with itself, beyond giving you another mapful of nodes to flip. [Issue#331, p.116]

No doubt about it, Far Cry: New Dawn can give you tons of fun for hours, but if you've played a Far Cry game before, you know what you're getting into, for better or for worse.

This game is clearly experimental, like devs are either just changing it up and seeing if fans like it or not, or they're trying to make the gameplay not so similar to Far Cry 5, this game's prequel. Modifying weapons is limited to clicking upgrade for a few percent higher damage, attachments cannot be changed. Weapons have assigned tiers, making low-tier gun useless, making you craft better weapons, or higher rank enemies will be just damage sponges. Story isn't as long as it's prequel, being about 11 hours long. I did enjoy playing this game surprisingly, yet I would still prefer if this game had Far Cry 5's mechanics. Too much RPG for a not-so-RPG series. Game feels more like a big DLC to Far Cry 5 rather than a standalone game. Weapon system in this game is really disappointing.

Far Cry New Dawn shares a lot of great similarities with Far Cry 5, but it’s the minor tweaks that allow it to stand as its own title. With so much to do, so many places to explore, and a post-apocalyptic world that is grounded in realism, there is no shortage of entertainment to be had in Hope County. While Mickey and Lou may not seem as threatening as previous instalments’ villains, they and the Highwaymen with their vibrant neon graffiti and motocross-influenced gear are definitely a force to be reckoned with. Welcome back to Hope County – and good luck.

Far Cry New Dawn is your regularly scheduled stop-gap Far Cry, with some lovely tweaks like the ranked enemies and weapons, and a fantastical element that reaches its natural conclusion.

Playing this after Far Cry 5 I loved it was an amazing feeling I can say that Far Cry is my favorite game series.

The most underrated spin-off of all the Far Cry games. The game mechanics and progression are quite addictive to play. One of my favorite games ever. I completely disagree with the negative reception of this game!

Far Cry: New Dawn takes us into a post-apocalyptic Montana, which is fascinating and insidious at the same time. The story is nice, but the evil twins aren't as good of a collective nemesis as the previous one was and the RPG elements don't feel solid as they should.

The replayable Outposts and Expeditions are a blast (even moreso in co-op) and the mild RPG mechanics of base building is a great start, even if it needs to be expanded upon. However, in a larger sense, the adventure is brought down by a comparatively small size and cookie-cutter bad guys. New Dawn isn’t a terrible experience, but it would have been better served by being delivered as DLC material, not passed off as a full game.

Although there's fun to be had in New Dawn, it feels a bit like a downgrade compared to Far Cry 5. An okay story, weak antagonists and mostly empty world are being held up by the franchise's usual standard for combat and graphics.

Far Cry: New Dawn can quite easily provide a weekend of fun, but when it comes to recalling your favourite games of 2019, don't expect to remember this post-apocalyptic adventure. Its streamlined RPG elements do add some welcome structure, but this trek through Hope County may seem familiar to a fault. It's almost a shame that Ubisoft didn't go all-in on making New Dawn a totally over-the-top spin-off, rather than a sequel that struggles to tell an all-too-serious story.

If New Dawn is as mute and monotonous about the issues that led to the nuclear war and the philosophies that shape its vision of America, that’s because it’s only interested in serving up a gamified version of survival, logic be damned.

Bad game, bad story, bad gameplay and I only give it a 5 because the graphics are good and there is violence in the stealth kills
