I’ll preface my review by mentioning that I loved the first game so much that after buying it digitally, I bought the Japanese Collectors Edition and the $150 IO figure. For Code Vein 2 I went ahead and bought the $200 Collectors edition from the Bandai Namco website. That being said, I’m not sure I’m even going to finish it. For one, this is no longer a soulslike. It’s far more an open world action game. It seems like they wanted to make a game that’s more for western journalists than for gamers. The tightness and fluidity of combat is replaced by an easier yet more janky hack and **** fan service has also been given the western HR department treatment. This wasn’t made for the gamers that loved the first game. My blame for my disappointment of the game goes directly to Bandai Namco. I just can’t see the developers making these decisions on their own. Bandai is going in my “Do not trust” list after this. What a waste of money.

At first I was having a lot of fun. The characters, story and aesthetic are great and the combat was fun too. Then getting a little further in, specifically the boss fight with the white haired commander, the difficulty spiked like crazy. I’ve beaten every souls game, Sekiro and most soulslikes so the difficulty isn’t the issue. You quickly realize how unbalanced the combat system is. Every weapon besides the long sword is garbage simply because they’re all too slow so options are out the window. After finally beating her, those imbalances and lack of smoothness within the combat system become more and more prevalent. At this point, I just don’t care about continuing to play it. After 20 hours I can easily see that it’s just not fun anymore and can tell it’s only going to get worse. 5 hours of fun and 15 of progressive annoyance and frustration. Totally bummed. I think I’m just going to delete it and take the L.

I absolutely loved KCD and after playing 8 hours of 2, I’ve deleted it. The first game seemed to really want to let you experience a story set in a historically accurate place and time. This absolutely doesn’t have that same charm. I guess this is the difference between making a game backed by gamers and a game backed by corporate interests. This is the most fun I’ve had with a game since Elden Ring. I can’t put it down. Shift Up have absolutely knocked this out of the park. The combat, exploration, atmosphere, meaningful upgrades…it’s all spectacular. Then there’s Eve. Just stunningly beautiful. The one REALLY bad takeaway I have from the game has absolutely nothing to do with Shift Up and everything to do with Sony. The censorship of the gore and outfits after release has left me completely disgusted with them. They’ve done it with so many other games, it’s angered me to the point of unsubscribing from PS Plus and has me contemplating just building a new PC and abandoning them completely. Titles like this will eventually make their way to PC. They publish other games with sex scenes, dismemberment and nudity but stomp the censorship boot on just about every game coming out of the East. That being said, Shift Up has added another game to my list of all time favorites.

That said, I can easily say that I absolutely HATE this game . The combat is complete trash. Janky movement, horrible hit boxes, overly complicated controls with the stupid lantern and ranged attacks. Whoever designed the fluidity of combat **** at what they do. For a game thats combat requires quick reactions and is modeled after the Souls style, it becomes a massive trial of luck and patience. When you get further towards the end you realize how unresponsive and janky the controls are to the point of completely giving up on continuing to play. Heals don’t respond to button input, parries don’t work, enemies spam unblockable attacks and some even lock onto you and instakill. If you want Soulslike combat in your game you have to optimize the controls to make combat as fluid as possible otherwise it becomes annoying, unfair and just stupid. Add to that the graphic anomalies like the entire crew T posing every time the ship takes off and the game just seems unfinished. I can’t count the times I thought, “I am the weakest, crappiest Jedi to ever exist.” I regret my time and money I put into this game.

Let me start off by saying that I am such a big fan of the series that I have 2 Ryza figures and a Lila figure that cost around $200 each along with a few really nice posters from AmiAmi. Needless to say, I absolutely love the characters and series. That being said, I’m completely disgusted and disappointed at the state this was released on PS5. Muddy textures, low resolution, horrible fps, jittery camera, washed out colors (I think from poor HDR implementation) After a few hours of play I had to download Ryza 2 because I didn’t remember it looking so bad. After loading into my saved game I was greeted with crisp clean graphics and silky smooth performance. I don’t know if this was Gust’s doing or Koei Tecmo but this absolutely shouldn’t have been released like this! If it’s ever patched and fixed I’ll gladly come back and change my score but until then, I’ve quit playing and will come back when it no longer looks and plays like garbage and I can enjoy my experience instead of continually exclaiming, “Eeew…WTF?”

With all of the different weapons, there’s only a small handful that aren’t trash. The need to buy fast travel packs to fast travel is just dumb. Gameplay wise, I’d call it an 8 but the characters and dialogue are so cringe and over emotional, I’ve gotten to the point that I skip all of the cut scenes because I either can’t stand the characters or it’s a blabbermouth fest. I absolutely love Bayonetta 1&2 and own them on multiple systems. Both were spectacularly over the top spectacles that were fun and campy yet stylish and sexy bound together with near perfect combat. First and foremost the combat just seems off in 3. It doesn’t feel as fluid as its predecessors. Also, I’ve noticed that the camera seems to always be in the wrong place for being able to see attacks, making the perfect dodge move incredibly frustrating. The combos just don’t seem to have the punch that they once did. It seems like the demon summoning makes the actual fun, fluid combat take a back seat while you lumber around controlling the big slow, dopey demons. And my God, that stupid hurtling through Tokyo on the dragon level was sooo bad. So annoyingly stupid. What really doesn’t help the game is the Switch’s capabilities. Grainy resolution with PS3 era graphics. The other thing that’s off are the characters faces. There’s times that they look fantastic but far too often they just look off and kind of weird. I wanted to love this game and was so excited for it but I’m incredibly disappointed. It feels like a less capable developer tried to make a Bayonetta game. I don’t even know if I’ll finish it.

What makes the bad gameplay even worse is the fact that the characters are so well done. Great, intriguing characters with a good story that’s completely ruined by insanity boring gameplay that leads to insanely annoying gameplay. I bought the game day 1 when it originally came out but sold it after playing for about 15 hours and literally falling asleep about 7 times while playing. Seeing it on Gamepass, I decided I would make a point to finish it. After enduring the slog of walking down empty linear paths for 25 hours, I’ve spent 7 hours in the open area and can easily say that the combat, upgrade system, level design, progression system and camera control **** beyond belief and I’ve almost completely run out of patience. After waiting patiently for a year, it’s finally here. After dusting of the game and reinstalling it the first few hours showed me a massive improvement with very few problems….until I got 20 to 30 hours into the game. It started with every time I go outside of the city the weather locks into a sandstorm that will remain until I do a mission that forces it to change. The bugs seem to operate like pulling a loose string on a sweater. They just keep getting worse and more abundant the more I play to the point that it feels like the game is collapsing onto itself. At this point I can’t answer my phone and can’t call people, completely killing the ability to move forward through the main story. Objectives in missions disappear, resulting in having to load previous saves. There’s loads of other stuff that can be inconsequential to a minor annoyance but when they’re preventing me from progressing, what’s the point of playing. The first few hours of gameplay I was asking myself,”Why all the bad scores. The combat is great!. I’m having a blast playing this!” Now that I’m at the end of the third area, I know. The first world has definable areas in it. The second, you can definitely get a bit lost in but the combat is still fun and by this time you’re starting to find your groove. The third is a hedge maze of sameness and you start to realize that the game really only has 3 levels of assets that were vomited into a semblance of “level design” So not only are the environments getting bland but all of the sudden the boss battles turn into pure stupid with multiple enemies spamming unblockable attacks that just juggle you to death. And holy crap, the constant stuttering. Every 15-20 seconds the game stutters, on a couple of occasions ending with a crash. This really is an empty shell **** that has no real story, combat that falls flat and completely unbalanced toward the end and leaves you with nothing but a regret for wasting your time with it. I started out having an absolute blast playing the campaign but as you get towards the end it becomes less and less fun and more of a trial. You’ll notice that as you progress and get more powerful weapons and upgrades, you somehow become easier to kill. The combat is so focused on forcing you to desperately need ammo, health and armor that the focus on Demon slaying takes a back seat and you just run around the map, plinking away at the bigger demons while searching for small ones to glory kill for health, chainsaw for ammo or burn for more armor. It gets to the point of just being stupid. I’m at the Taras Nabad level and it’s become so irritating that I’ve lost any desire to keep playing. This garbage mechanic carries over to multiplayer as well making it a cakewalk to win as a demon. I played 4 games. One as the slayer and the rest as demons. 4 games is a total of 12 rounds. In 12 rounds I only saw the slayer kill 1 demon and that slayer was me. Unfortunately you have to kill both to win a round. I’m done writing about this massive disappointment. This is a decent game but one specific combat mechanic completely ruins it to the point that I’m done playing it. When combat starts there’s a small unspecified area around the enemies that, if you cross the invisible line, it instantly resets the enemies health and armor. Sometimes it’s so small that you go 20 yards away from the initial encounter and it resets. When you come up on a group of 5 beasts the charge, and you’re rolling and dodging while setting traps and attacking, you inevitably cross the line and all of your ammo and resources used have been completely wasted. This happens over and over again throughout the game and it’s completely infuriating. Whoever came up with this idea should never be involved with making an action game ever again. Like I said, it’s a decent game, I’d say around an 8 but this violently stupid mechanic not only instantly kills the fun but makes me just turn the game off. 5/10

As someone who has achieved platinum trophies in every Souls and Soulslike(Nioh,The Surge, etc), it tears me apart to have to post this score but in the games current state, it’s absolutely infuriating to **** not in the good “Souls” way. With the game relying so heavily on the timing of blocks, counters and dodges I would think that From Software would want to have the mechanics dialed in at release. I can’t tell you how many f’ing times I’ve dodged a grab, just to watch the enemy animation lock on to me mid-dodge. The same with other combat mechanics. This screwed up timing has also happened when the red deathblow prompt appears. I go to finish off an enemy, hit the attack button and nothing happens. This kind of garbage happens WAY too often for a game that’s combat relies completely on timing. It makes for way too many deaths that have happened because I’ve been killed by the games poor mechanics and not having to “git good”. My hype and excitement for this game have gone down the toilet. As it stands, I’m going to stop playing and hope that they fine tune the mechanics in future patches. I’ll come back and update my score if it gets fixed.

While this game is not even close to deserving of all the zeros on here I believe it’s completely deserving of the over all score it evened out as in the player ratings(as of now 7.6). It’s also incredibly apparent that most journalists that have it a 10 never played through the entire campaign. I’m baffled that Rockstar thought it was a good idea to completely neuter your character for the final 1/3 of the game. The reliance on dead eye, hence continuous swigging down of every substance that will enable it, completely breaks the fluidity of combat. Limiting that ability made it become an incredibly annoying and frustrating trial. I absolutely loved the first part of the game, 10/10, but after a certain event happens, the gimbal movement coupled with shaky targeting without(or limited) deadeye completely ruined my enjoyment of the game. I no longer wanted to complete any side quests or activities. I just, angrily, wanted the game to be over. After all is said and done, I don’t see how this control scheme is going to be enjoyable in a multiplayer environment. It’s such a great game but the outdated gimbal like character movement and wobbly targeting just kill it. It’s a shame.

The first few hours I found the game to be spectacular. Fantastic characters, great voice work, cool story and fun gameplay. After 15 hours this game had become infuriating. Constant 1-3 hit deaths from wandering high level creatures when I was engaged in an already close battle had become the norm. I was starting to hate the game but stuck with it. At 61 hours the surprise attacks from wandering high level creatures has lessened and the characters and story have shown through. The game, for me went from a 9 to a 6 but I’m so glad I stuck with it. It’s back to a 9 despite the hiccups at the beginning. This is an incredibly memorable game with spectacular characters and a great story.

I absolutely loved this game. Sure it has a few technical issues, most of which have been patched, but the over all experience is so unique and was so enjoyable I can’t give it any lower than a 10. Thank you, Warhorse!

Abominable AI. You can expect you AI companions to not just be morons but suicidal morons, charging into the nearest raging fire....consistently. Here’s a scenario you’ll encounter over and over again: You come upon a building with a few enemies around it you decide to take them out and see what loot you can find. After you take them out and start checking out the area, a truck pulls up and they’re instantly alerted from the body’s. As you’re in the new firefight, 4 enemy vehicles driving by are alerted and attack(This places roadways are ridiculously populated for being in the woods.). A bear joins the **** look, more enemies from down the road. A helicopter. A cougar. A fire starts burning everything. You hide from the chopper and wait for the fire to burn out, taking enemy’s out stealthily with the bow and make it back to the building and the initial enemies have respawned. Here we go again. You eventually die. There’s good things about the game but the over population and respawn rate of enemy’s and dangerous wildlife is ridiculous. It makes the game not fun. It’s absolutely pointless to drive anywhere. “F” this game. Not only am I just done with playing the game after 6 hours, I’m done with the series. I don’t know how people have rated it as high as they have. I played Homefront 2 longer than I could take playing this and that was hot garbage. What a waste of money.

Bugs? Here and there, yes. Graphics? Hit and miss. At 20 hours in I’m completely **** into the story and having a blast with the gameplay. There’s a learning curve to both swordplay and archery that feels incredibly rewarding once you get it down. The story and characters are fantastic. I was leery to pick this up but am so glad I did. It an incredibly solid game that **** you into the story and does a great job recreating the time period and emotional attachments to characters both friends and foe. Once some of the bugs and graphic anomalys are fixed, I’d give it an easy 9. One of the best story driven rpgs I’ve played in a long time.

I’ve held off picking this up because I find anime games to be more miss than hit and knowing it takes place in school seemed rather stupid to me. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This game is incredibly original with compelling characters, a great storyline and a very original take on turn based RPGs. It takes a bit to really get started with a lot of conversation and dialog which normally looses my interest but it sets up the story and characters in a way that kept me hooked and established an incredibly solid story base to build gameplay around. When the gameplay kicks in and the game opens up, it’s absolutely fantastic! I couldn’t be happier that I gave it a shot based on people’s reviews. An extremely original game that I now hold in very high regard.

Normally I’d give it a 4 but seeing as how THQ Nordic is charging $59 for this hot garbage, to me it deserves a zero. A complete waste of money. For perspective, I played Gothic when it originally released. I’ve been a gamer since the days of Atari and Commadore64 and am in no way a casual gamer. That said, I’m 7 hours in and I just can’t take playing it anymore. Wretched combat. Wretched voice acting and graphics. The horrid progression leaves you in a constant state of wondering WTF you’re supposed to do to progress. 7 hours in and I can still barely kill the same couple creatures I was fighting in the intro. The mechanics are so awful that I don’t even care anymore. F this game. F the devs and F me for buying this steaming pile of buttsauce. Game deleted.

Man, what a disappointment. I was excited to have another game that uses the Aim Controller but the gun doesn’t even line up well with what you’re seeing. It doesn’t give the illusion that you’re holding the weapons. The tracking seems messed up as well. In smooth mode I find myself constantly a touch out of alignment and movement is incredibly clunky. I’m also not liking how you teleport into enemies tto finish them off. I thought I’d be up close and personal, ripping em apart. Oh well. Eventually I’ll finish it simply because I paid for it but as of right now, I really regret buying it.

The first few hours are great but at around 10 hours in the laughs become fewer and far between and the gameplay becomes fairly tedious. By the time I got to the end, the combat is just plain garbage. So many cheap things happen to feign combat difficulty. I would have given it an 8 after the first few hours but by the end it drops itself down to a 6. It just turns into an annoying, tedious trial that I finished because I spent $60. Stick of Truth was so much better.

With an actual storyline and loads of endgame content, consistent loot and huge maps that contain many hidden areas with tons of side quests, Destiny 2's single player element is what 1 should have been. As far as PVP goes, I think Destiny 1 was more diverse. Competitive mode usually results in people rage quitting after a couple losses and you playing 1v4. I'd say PvE is a 8, PVP is 7. A big issue though is the rewards. There's so many reskins of weapons and armor it borders on pathetic. Exotics are't very exotic anymore and there's only a couple that are even worth using. There's no reason to keep playing if all the rewards for playing are garbage that you'll put in your vault to collect.
