Mafia II: Definitive Edition7

"GOOD CHARACTERS" The characters of this game hold it together. They just barely did a good job with the character development. This game would be good or even great if they did a remake instead of a remaster. The old animations are pretty much the same from the old game but good textures plastered over them. It's not much of a bother but the stiff reactions and good dialog make for a dry cold feeling. "AVERAGE STORY" The story of this game revolves around the main character Vito and major side character Joe. They work their way up the chain of jobs before receiving jobs straight from a major boss. This is different from the first game in which the major boss is working with you almost right at the start. This game pulls away from that by putting more fights to gather more reputation which is used to vouch your way into working big jobs. "GREAT BANTER" My favorite part of the whole game is the humor. The banter between characters and the ridiculous actions taken tickled my funny side. Out of the 3 mafia games this one's humor is present throughout the whole game. I honestly don't know why it was funny for me but it carries the score for me. "BAD ENDING" What really hurts this game is the ending. The ending did not have the necessary emotion to get by. It tried to have emotion with a blank face and a cut to the credits. It is not up to par with the whole game and completely falls flat on its face. The ending is far too cold for the humor it was showing. Impactful moments in the game were not as impactful to me but character emotion was shown through the actions they took. With the game ending with no reaction it completely breaks this conditioning.

It's a difficult game to really play. You control a small team of survivors to reach the end to extract from the harsh area but are constantly fighting against starvation, sleep, freezing to death, psychological issues and strange alien-like monsters. There are only a limited number of resources in the area that are used to inhabit the area for a short time. You have to look for a way to the next area that will most of the time be locked and have to be unlocked in some way.

"GREAT WORLD" The world of Pandora feels vast and intricate. I would say this map carries the 8/10 for me as if it were a dull playing area I would give it a 5/10. If the environment did not feel so full I would be pretty disappointed in the game. There is a lot on the ground that gets missed once the main transportation unlocks. I spent a lot of time in the first chunk of the map before continuing the story to unlock more. There are a lot of plants that I could get crafting materials from but I did not know how to. "GOOD STEALTH" I enjoyed the stealth of the game as the enemies got harder, there were more steps needed to tear down opponents. Some degree of stealth is needed to get all of the rewards from over taking an enemy base. If reinforcements are called, your final gear reward goes from 3 equipment to 1. Stealth is also the best way in my opinion to tackle enemies 2 to 3 levels higher than myself. A whole skill tree and a few ancestor skills are dedicated to stealth. "2/5 STORY" A major issue for me is the stiffness of characters. Arround 25% of the story is cutscenes but the issue is the emotion displayed. There is often more emotion displayed in a character's speech rather than their face and body. Everything is played through the main character's POV which does not help build a connection to characters within the game. I ended up skipping 60% of the dialog that I could but at some point I took a liking to Priya. The only time in the whole game I had an emotional impact was at the end of the game where the main antagonist is talking himself up while talking the main character down. "1/5 GUIDANCE" At the start of the game it does not do a good job at guiding a player. A player just has to figure it out. The game has text on screen to give you hints on where to go instead of pointing you where to go. It is not till Navi senses are unlocked that the game starts pointing. I initially wanted to play through the whole game with a friend but it took 2 hours just to unlock the coop. By that point my friend felt the game was 3/5 and did not feel like continuing as the lack of guidance and dull combat turned him off. "PLAYTIME" According to my PS5, I have 50 hours of playtime and I have completed the main story, destroyed all of the bases, destroyed all of the mining spots, completed 3 of the 5 skill trees, and acquired all of the ancestor skills. Mind you I got 100% clean air or no pollution and I did only 8 of the many side missions. From my experience, end game requires a lot done as the final mission difficulty was 18-19 and I got to 19 gear score.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag - Freedom Cry7
Jun 14, 2023
This game is more like a paid trial to the main game. It does not have all the meat to stand successfully on its own. Though if it were not standalone I probably would have never played it. Everything is the same except for a couple of weapons and a liberation system to unlock gear. The two new weapons are the machete and the blunderbuss. Throughout my play through I avoided using them. The better blunderbuss has a wider spread that probably was great for gathering a group of enemies and wiping them away with a quick shot. The machete I had an issue with as I felt it killed in the same amount of hits as a sword but you had to swing it slower. I’m sure most people’s favorite aspect of this game is the ship combat. It’s the same as the main game and has one issue I did not enjoy. When you would fire the cannons at a stand still the smoke would rise up and block vision. It is not enough to cause a major issue but slowed ship combat a tiny bit. The story is very short with 9 total missions. My least favorite of these comes down to the eavesdropping ones. The story is about Adewale after his story with Edward and his training with the assassins. He is deserted on the island of Haiti and tries to help with the liberation of slaves.

Mafia: Definitive Edition7
Feb 25, 2023
When I was playing through this game I thought this game was a remaster. The visuals are quite pretty and combat is worse than Mafia 3. Driving is also not good and I have heard it was bad back then as well. I suppose this is a Mafia specialty as I’d think they would have fixed it by their third one. The story is linear and there are no free roam activities to deal with. The story is good with the story ending with more blood. There are a lot of moments in the beginning of the game where it is just driving. I did like these driving moments when there is a conversation happening between the characters in the car but overall they were not worth it.

They did improve some things like the fact that if you're compromised in a certain area you are not for the entire map. The map sizes have grown to a certain degree and while it took a bit to get used to the changes I still had fun. My biggest complaint would be that they replace the cutscene quality with slightly moving art pieces and a slideshow of them. This left me feeling less rewarded for completing objectives.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege7
Oct 7, 2022
Siege is a stressful game to get into. Initially I was brought into the game because of the one shot headshot mechanic but once I reached level 100 I drifted away from that. About 33% of your time you will more than likely be dead or waiting for the drone phase to finish. In my opinion there is too much down time but there is always Call of Duty with little to no down time.

Ubisoft can do stories. With that said this one does not really have one. There is no pvp aspect of the game and only pve. Max three players to a team which is not much. Since there is no story more there is nothing really replayable for me as I played the game mostly solo.

Quite a deep and lovely game. The more you play the other games before in the series the more references and final ties you see it make in this game. This was supposed to be the last Metal Gear Hideo made and it pulled all the correct stops. Unfortunately the community attacked him to make more and we got Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain in which Hideo’s story was far and beyond what Konami had the budget for.

It’s a good game that I don’t think I would have finished. I would say the difficulty is hard as there is no option. You may get stuck here or there but pay attention or search for a guide. A solid game that allows you really to play how ever you'd like. For example, if you just want to steam roll through the story you can kill anyone who stands in your way. Score is based off your work as a ghost meaning how invisible your movement was to all of the bots in the level.

The main story is where the gold of this game stands. There is a lot of detail and work put into the story which makes you feel apart of the world. One issue I would have with the story would be it feels a bit rushed when you get 75% of the way through but it still ties itself up extraordinarily The online is unfortunately not worth your time as you have to grind a lot of time to get gold and levels. A tip for online would be to use free aim to get free aim xp.

This game took the RPG element and boosted it compared to Darksiders and that brought me down. Weapons and armor now had a level and if I remember correctly you had to be the correct level to use it. The gameplay got stale a lot quicker for me with this aspect at around 45% into the game.

DayZ1
Oct 7, 2022
At the start the I liked the game but it was not really worth it. Then they release an update that makes your hunger consume faster and ever since then I despise the game. I don't know if it is any better now but there was no food or loot in the beginning houses because of fresh players spawns and spawn timers so 70% of the time I starve to death or die of dehydration. Last time I played I would be stuck in a gameplay loop of getting something to break stone down, making a stone knife out of it, using the stone knife to cut up random cloths to get cloth, using that cloth to make rope, using the stone knife to cut up a bush to get a long stick, putting together the long stick and rope together to make a fishing rod, using my stone knife to kill a chicken, harvesting the chicken for bone, turning the bone into a bone hook, using the bone hook and fish rod to catch fish, burning the fish on a campfire, then eating the fish for food. I cannot leave spawn because I'll run out of food or water and on top of that I may not find a chicken or something to breakdown stone with to even get a supply of food. Before the hunger nerf you would be able to run all the way up to the end of the map before you would start experiencing hunger and dehydration.
