7 Days to Die previously needed a lot of work. It is now in a playable and downright fun state, with a strong crafting and scavenging element that often makes sense and keeps immersion in the survival setting. Zombies become more dangerous as time goes on, but so does the player, as long as they balance their survival with scavenging for better equipment and learning new skills, and 7 Days to Die does a better job staving off the difficulty plateau many survival games eventually succumb to. Following updates, the gameplay is sturdy and solid, built off of an already fun foundation.
Even three months and numerous patches after release, it’s clear that this project is nowhere near complete.Worse, the developers are clearly prioritizing the more successful PC version over this compromised port job. Console-owning fans of the survival genre may find something to enjoy in 7 Days To Die, but my advice is to steer clear all the same.

It's an enormous game, but a bit of a shambles. [Sept 2016, p.103]

I tried this game out, and it’s a lot of fun to play. Has some bugs, but nothing too bad. It’s like dayz and Minecraft put together, thats the only way I can put it. Can’t wait for the ps5 version to release, hopefully it has better graphics and better mechanics than this version like was shown in a video.

A game that has changed a lot over the years, with developers who work hard and well, I love the game and I think it doesn't deserve this overall rating. It's an ultra complete survival game, you can spend 10 hours playing it without realizing it.

7 Days to Die has a lot to offer for the zombie genre but hides beneath glitches, bugs and bad graphics.

This game is really fun to play and i love the skills and crafting in the game and whenever i start playing i can't leave it at least after 3 hours. I love the Alpha 20 update and the new guns.

A compelling zombie concept thoroughly ruined by frighteningly horrid execution. [Sept 2016, p.74]

Right now, 7 Days To Die is an extremely shoddy release on the PS4. Hardcore fans who love crafting and survival games may find a potential time sink here, but I find it hard to recommend this title to anyone else just looking for a game to occupy themselves with during this summer drought. Don’t Starve is available on PS4. Try that one instead.

7 Days To Die is a retail release of an alpha build of an Early Access game, and a downright scummy thing for Telltale to market as a finished product.

I come back to this game again and again. Wonderful atmosphere and voxel graphics will not let you get bored.

This game is unique enough that I recommend everyone try it, at least on sale. I also note that as of April 2023 there are rumors of a significant patch coming for consoles. Even without it, this game offers something many will love but be forewarned that several flaws conspire to also make it a frustrating experience. I recommend going in blind, looking up things as they come up. The immersion of anxious survival should make a few hours of fun for everyone, and a hidden gem for many.

It has a great potential, but had so many lag issues before so people bored from the game. They fixed it on most cases, but it still has lag issues time by time for multiplayer, but on the other hand, i like this game and i have played it for many hours. I hope they improve this game much more!

Great concpet terrible execution. I wish time would be put into development before slapping some unfinished game down. Also it runs horribly on PS4 on my PC I average 70-80 even with High Specs. There is potential in the game. However it's up to the developers to reach that standing.

SummaryBuilding on survivalist and horror themes, players in 7 Days to Die can scavenge the abandoned cities of the buildable and destructable voxel world for supplies or explore the wilderness to gather raw materials to build their own tools, weapons, traps, fortifications and shelters.
