Could have been great, but relies too heavily on the "Jango Fett is cool" idea, and doesn't have the depth of gameplay needed to hold most people's interest.
Despite all the things Jango can do, control is streamlined and intuitive... A rock-solid action title that should keep Fett fans very happy.

With an archaic graphics engine, dreadfully awful camera tracking, extensive load times, and some of the most atrocious mission challenges known to man, it becomes quite clear where this game went wrong. [Jan 2003, p.89]

STAR WARS: Bounty Hunter is a Third-Person Shooter where you’ll need to weigh the pros and con’s of going into slow motion mid fight to scan your enemies to see if there's a bounty on them. Or just go through level’s guns a blazin’!STAR WARS: Bounty Hunter was developed by LucasArts and released on Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2 in 2002, it was ported by Aspyr and released on steam in 2024. Story: For those that don’t connect the dots, Jango Fett is from Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones. So that means Bounty Hunter takes place between Phantom Menace and Attack of the **** Plot is that yet again something threatens the galaxy, only this time Darth Sidious calls up Dooku and says “Hey bro, what’s with this Cult called the ‘Bando Gora’ didn’t you have a chance to kill their ex-Jedi leader? Also Find a host for the clone army”. And Dooku says “Hey no worries, I’m good enough to kill two birds with one stone…”The rest of the game is played as Jango Fett, tracking down the bounty on the leader of the Bando Gora Cult. You will cross paths with Zam Wesell, and obtain the Iconic Firespray-class Patrol Craft we know and love. Gameplay: STAR WARS: Bounty Hunter is a 3rd person shooter. You can play with keyboard and mouse controls, I would suggest playing with a controller. But even with a controller's thumbsticks, looking up and down is awful… There is a Camera Sensitivity slider… but unfortunately you can only change all sensitivity, instead of JUST vertical sensitivity. But I've dealt with this problem before while playing other video games… That being said the problem is about the same with keyboard and mouse controls… but I’ve seen some people are fine with Keyboard and mouse. You just kinda get used to whatever you need to deal with. (If that’s a deal breaker, that’s a deal breaker for you. That’s fine!)I wasn’t that impressed with the platforming in Bounty Hunter either. Jumping around without the jet pack is painful. Thankfully there’s only a few levels where you don’t have a Jetpack and there isn’t that much precise platforming. But when they made me platform I tended to fall to my death early and then decided to just continue jumping down into the Abyss because I saw something shiny…There are primarily two ways I played through levels in Bounty Hunter, at the start of the game I focused on being more meticulous in first scanning for bounties and then capturing the bounty before they decided to run into the line of fire and take a big ‘ol dirt nap. After the first few chapters I found myself dying a lot, and to offset my setbacks, I decided to pretend the scanner didn’t work, and gunned down everyone and their pet womp rat to finish the level. Both will get you to the end of the game and it is generally easier to ignore bounties, but I feel like the “True” Bounty Hunter experience is to sneak around, tag your bounties, engage combat, and check new people for bounties mid fight. When you pull up your scanner the game goes into slow motion where you can still move around and tag new found bounties, but you’ve also become vulnerable because you put away your weapons to analyze incoming targets. Conclusion: I feel like I haven’t had a very long review for a game which took roughly 16 hours to finish the main story (I’ve disregarded what the game itself told me… it told me I beat the game in 9 hours 31 minutes, but that’s a lie because it didn’t count levels I ****’s a Star Wars Game, it was a bit rough around the edges on console, it’s a bit rough around the edges with occasional glitches, sometimes I’d start a boss fight in slow motion because I was using the scanner… Other times bosses would get stuck on level geometry. At one point some guys showed up giving off severely-threatening T-Pose **** all in all, I’m content with my experience playing STAR WARS: Bounty Hunter. I think Star Wars Fans will prefer this game, it’s not some really super amazing game which pushes the boundaries of 3rd person shooter games. If you like Star Wars and/or the characters you’ll stick around for the story. If you’re feeling the itch to play an older gamecube/PS2 game you could pick far worse games to play then this one. …There's more to the review, but I'm out of Characters... Although it is hampered with framerate issues and a bit of a clumsy interface, the game delivers on mostly every other aspect.

Lucasarts was once well-known in the gaming industry for creating some of the most compelling, innovative, and outlandishly fun experiences in history. As sad as it is to see them go, you can always do yourself a service by going back and seeing what made them so great in the first place. Bounty Hunter is one such example that shows their prowess in crafting an intricate and original story housing some of the most memorable (if not the most memorable) characters seen in any of their games. Following Jango on an adventure that includes him assassinating corrupt senators, infiltrating a crime-lord's barracks, delving into Coruscant's underworld to find where certain dangerous drugs are being smuggled, and breaking into an asteroid-based prison are only a few of the levels you'll have a blast playing through, however challenging they may be. Rest assured you won't feel disempowered or bored on your travels; Jango has access to all of the galaxy's more sophisticated weaponry and gadgets, from silent toxic darts, to a whipcord for roping up enemies, to his signature flamethrower and dual pistols. You'll even get jetpack upgrades along the way. In addition to the already-stellar narrative, you can take on side-missions in each level by scanning NPCs (who roam the map, going about their daily business), and find out whether any of them have a bounty on their head. Once they're marked, you can cash in for the reward, dead or alive, but the ensuing chase is where the real fun comes in. All in all, Bounty Hunter serves to show us just how fun a Star Wars game can be, and makes Episode 2 just a tad more bearable when you understand who Zam Wessel is, and why Jango ever decided to join Count Dooku (which the game's CG cut-scenes serve to explain in fine detail). Prepare to be dazzled. You owe it to Lucasarts to play one of their greatest games.

Flawed, but fun. [Feb 2003, p.43]

It is also, bizarrely, needlessly fiddly to walk in a straight line. Its almost as if the game is expecting you to strafe as your viewpoint veers to the left and right, causing you to correct the movement on a constant basis.

A horrible camera often shakes uncontrollably like a drunken Corellian, and sloppy controls tend to make you feel just as uncoordinated. [Feb 2003, p.138]

The extra-large level maps offer vertiginous expanses to traverse, and since half the game forces you to zip from ledge to ledge, this leads to nagging depth-perception problems. [15 Nov 2002, p.143]

The possibilities for some genuine bounty hunting fun are in there, but too many kinks exist for this particular mercenary to make it to the big time.

Where do I begin with this game? For all those fruitful game champions out there, be prepared to meet your match. Not only is this game hard as hell, but at times you'll almost be glad it's kicking your ass. Now don't get me wrong, it's not all fun and games. While playing through the sometimes treacherously long and always confusing levels, you cant help but just yell in frustration at the 44th death in the chapter. It's a learning experience, the more you play, the more you want to beat the challenge of the game. Each level is carefully crafted and beautiful in its own way from vast open landscapes (dune sea levels) to the gritty innards of labyrinth-style building complexes (prison levels). To say the least, no matter what environment Jango is stacked up against, it's an absolute blast to navigate him to the end. Oh and speaking of blast... be prepared to build some callus's on your right hand fingers. Jango's blasters fire only as fast as you can press the button and let me tell you, he needs to fire them fast! The controls are amazing for the year this game was released. The bounty hunter can perform all sorts of moves and tricks and the jet-pack dynamic is additive to fun combinations of game-play. Play around with him and you'll end up finding epic and sometimes hilarious game moments. One last note: this game is not for the weak. You WILL Die. If you think you're up to the challenge, trying taking this beast **** on and see if you come out on top. If I could give this game a 9.5 I would. My friend and I marathoned the entire game off and on over the course of a month or so. We found endless hilarity and epic encounters. All in all, I strongly recommend this game

Based on my 10-Point System, I have concluded that the game deserves a rating of 4/10. Graphics - As the starting point for what you first see when starting this game, it opens up with some really good cut-scenes. Where the game loses it for me is in the actual game-play. Graphics wise this feels like the most rushed title Star Wars has put out. Considering the size of the game it seems like more work could have been put in on the graphics. 1 Point. Sound/Music - I feel like this game tries to earn a pass by being a Star Wars game. So it does nail the sounds of Star Wars, but there was very little in the way of anything new. Just the same old tracks played over cut-scenes and in game. 1 Point. Level/Map Design - This is one I can't give any pass on. This might be one of the worst games I have ever played as far as the map/levels. Every location feels the exact same and you constantly get lost due to not really knowing where to go. The levels are 3 times bigger than they need to be for no reason. Very barren and dead. 0 Points. Performance - Flawless as far as I could tell, but it didn't really have to do much either. So although there weren't any technical issues, this was not anything impressive about this game. 1 Point. Enjoyment - I hated every moment of this game past the intro level. I did not get a sense of immersion in this world and this felt like the most rushed and pumped out title in the Star Wars universe. There was very little to nothing to be enjoyed here. I would recommend watching some cut-scenes to get the story, but don't waste your time with this. 1 Point.
