The Good Place takes off in absurd, insane and delightful directions, with episodes so rich in asides and throwaway bits that they might need to be watched more than once.

The brilliance of the writing and world-building on The Good Place is taken to another level by its cast.

Although less thought provoking [than the film "Defending Your Life"], this new series uses a similar premise but has the potential to be even funnier. A fascinating theme and a charismatic cast make The Good Place appointment television.

Jokes are plentiful and original and the show hums along delivering a lot of welcome joy. It might not be fall-on-the-ground funny, but you can definitely see a strong hand here in the creative writing and spot-on performances.

The Good Place offers a clever high-concept premise that’s complemented with intelligent, sometimes absurdist humor.

In its first five episodes, the show is more gently amusing than laugh-out-loud funny, and no character pops as much as Ron Swanson did in the early days of “Parks and Rec.” That said, “The Good Place” is more polished than the first few installments of that earlier series.

While there are probably some actually interesting ethical quandaries that could be addressed with a wry satire in The Good Place, the show rests on half-baked notions that seem like they would be much better suited elsewhere than a network comedy.

Simply put, It's a very well written and funny show. The cast does such a great job at selling their characters but it's really the top-notch writing that ties it all together.

The first ten episodes were actually torture, I almost stopped watching. But I must admit, the twist and the last three episodes were well-written and suspenseful. Ted Danson is always good, the supporting characters were generic but interesting, and Kristen Bell was, well, decent. She's not my favorite actress. The jokes and comedy in The Good Place is just not funny ever, like actually never.

The first few episodes of The Good Place were fun and original. The vulgar language filter was funny. But after episode 2 it just got sillier and sillier and the jokes mainly of pop culture ‘in’ variety aka not very funny. Ted Danson and newcomer Jameele Jamil are very good in their respective roles but Kirsten Bell just doesn't have it for me as a comedy actress. She's too California or something to be believable in a comedy situation. There is no sense of tragedy about her which is the essence of comedy. Very average ordinary show

I had high hopes for this show and have watched every episode. Unfortunately, it is not very funny. The premise is already growing tired and the characters are just kind of boring. The best you get out of The Good Place is one or two mild chuckles per episode. Honestly, has this show ever inspired an out-of-control belly laugh? Probably not.

Typical network sitcom drivel. Tepid jokes, performed with a perfunctory speed to make the 22 minute mark. If critics gave it high reviews its because when it comes to networks the pickings are slim so in comparison it's somewhat better than the other sitcoms.
