Evil Genius6
Jan 31, 2021
Fascinating and macabre. Very well put together. It's hard to believe that people like this actually exist but they do, and lots of them. One point I would make is about the title. Nobody is a genius here. Idiots abound and receive karma justly.

Dark Tourist4
Jan 31, 2021
Some of the episodes are quite good, others are forced. The presenter is mocked as being a cheap Theroux. He's not even close to being that good. He's an annoying wet blanket. If they get a decent host for the future they'll get a good following, because the idea has loads of potential.

Star Trek: Discovery: Season 35
Nov 26, 2020
Pluses are the underlying story, which is interesting. The space travel effects are good. Impressive location for the first few episodes. Michelle Yeoh is still in it and the lead has new hair and is sexier. Negs are poor special effects for extraterrestrial worlds, bar the first one , the lack of Pike and the new trans non binary line, which is excessively soppy and mawkish. The feelz component is very now, it's like air kissing, everyone does it. Nobody means it. STD is still watchable Sci Fi though.

Cobra Kai: Season 27
Oct 14, 2020
A teen show in essence that manages to connect with middle aged guys (Karate movies are mainly a guy thing no matter what they tell you) in their fifties who saw the original karate kid and can now watch this with their own kids, heck, their grandkids. A novel way of looking at good v evil and the grey area in between. The teen romance is a bit much for sure , the idea of Sam being able to fight is ridiculous and the mob fights are hilariously unrealistic. But it overcomes these minor shortcomings to be a very entertaining show with a lot more substance than the majority of stuff churned out.

Jim Gaffigan: The Pale Tourist: Season 10
Aug 28, 2020
Jim Gaffigan is what's leftover when the funny comedians like Louis C. K. have been cancelled. And it's no laughing matter.

Love, Death & Robots3

Hugely overrated animated series written I'm guessing by teenage boys for the amusement of teenage boys. The pointless soft porn kinda gives that away. Stories range from OK to rubbish. The animation is just about video game standard at best. Weak sauce

Our Planet4

David Attenborough has been the greatest wildlife presenter of my lifetime and I’m no spring chicken having grandchildren of my own now. Unfortunately, this was the least enjoyable of his productions. The photography, editing, locations even the choice of animals aren't bad per se, just not quite as good as the BBC. What was off-putting was the practically unremitting gloom. Yes, the habitats of the world's wildlife are being devastated at an awful rate and we should stop and reverse it immediately. But this mood of hopeless despair won’t win new young fans. People will just shrug and say it can’t be stopped and move on to another cause to the detriment of the world's wildlife. Negatively only appeals to negative people. Life needs more joy.

Sacred Lies: Season 21
Mar 8, 2020
It's free and Juliette Lewis is an interesting character. That's about it for plus points. Otherwise, it's a poorly acted, poorly scripted overwrought thing. The unsubtle political messaging is so clumsy it's hard to credit. Head shakingly bad. This will definitely be canceled.

Westworld: Season 27
Aug 24, 2018
Technically and conceptually the entertainment industry is at an all time high. By contrast writing is at an a very low ebb. Directorially we have a very mixed bag. Westworld 2 encapsulates this. Visually outstanding. Musically beautiful. Individual actors give everything. But too many cooks spoil the broth. A narrative mess. The timeline disruption is just an annoying directorial trope. Overuse of discursive plots. Unsatisfying character conclusions. Cannon fodder shootouts in the nonsensical thousands by supposed spec ops. False cod philosophy and worse of all unimaginative ending. The show needs one good writer and one good director and it will be a masterpiece.

The Good Place: Season 15
Mar 7, 2018
The first few episodes of The Good Place were fun and original. The vulgar language filter was funny. But after episode 2 it just got sillier and sillier and the jokes mainly of pop culture ‘in’ variety aka not very funny. Ted Danson and newcomer Jameele Jamil are very good in their respective roles but Kirsten Bell just doesn't have it for me as a comedy actress. She's too California or something to be believable in a comedy situation. There is no sense of tragedy about her which is the essence of comedy. Very average ordinary show

Better Call Saul: Season 13
Feb 21, 2018
I can't understand why this show is rated so high, It has great production values and the actors are very professional, but it has no verve, no energy, no pulse. In short, boring and tedious...

Veep: Season 15
Feb 20, 2016
Its a lot more difficult to make someone laugh than to cry so comedies should be given a little more leeway than dramas as a rule. But not carte blanche either. In Veep there is very little laugh out loud moments but plenty of smiles. Basically Seinfeld crossed with the West Wing, Politicians staff manipulating media is a cliched trope and over exaggerated. Its not like that in reality and its a bit boring to watch it for the umpteenth time on a TV show. Actors are very good in this show but the writing just ain't. Average

Master of None: Season 15
Feb 19, 2016
An Indian Seinfeld basically. Man child character and his friends. Doesn't try to shock or offend and is mostly pleasant with the occasional smile. No way a 9 out of **** original Seinfeld would warrant **** this middle of the road stuff.

Arrow: Season 45
Nov 29, 2015
I'm 4 episodes in and this is the weakest series so far. This used to be an excellent show but its lost its way a lot. The Flashbacks should have been **** after season 2,they don't really serve any purpose and feel pretty fake . Its beginning to rehash itself quite a lot and the edginess of Stephen Amell is missing at the minute.. The characters seem safe now and it really needs a cull. John Diggle, Felcity and Thea could/should be replaced. Needs to be a lot darker. Its not playing to its strengths.Malcolm, who has been a tremendous character, is underused and uninteresting John Diggle is there all the time. Its ratings are way way down and if they don't pick up, Arrow will be canceled.

Treme: Season 14
Oct 20, 2015
I just couldn't get into it.. I wanted to become as absorbed with New Orleans as much I was absorbed with Baltimore in "The Wire". I just didn't like any of the characters much. Some of them I really disliked to be honest. It could have been really good but it just never took off for me..

Nurse Jackie: Season 73
Sep 30, 2015
Nurse Jackie started well and was very enjoyable but It went a few seasons too long. Jackie's addiction becoming public knowledge took the rug from under the story to a large extent and her on/off struggle with the pills while maybe realistic was humorless in the last season. The best bit about Nurse Jackie was the humor and without that the show isn't great. Jackie herself as a character was not very likable but seemed always to have no shortage of friends and lovers which I always found a bit odd. Pity it didn't finish on a stronger note.

Silicon Valley: Season 29
Sep 24, 2015
The out of the pan into the fire story lines are fun for now but I hope they don't overdo them in the future. The social awkwardness of the nerd is very well done. Bachman is not aware enough to be self conscious but his crassness is just cringingly awkward to watch and all the funnier for it. Jared is quite brilliance in the background. Its parody of the real Silicon Valley and maybe not that much of a parody.

The Walking Dead: Season 510
Sep 24, 2015
Walking Dead is one of the disliked popular shows with plenty of online critics who find fault. But its popular for a reason, its unpredictable, savage, uplifting and depressing in equal measure. Nobody's safe, no one can rest on their laurels and nobody is beyond reproach. Its also very brave and will go against the grain. Kids have been shot on this show, which breaks all the **** isn't cheap either, detail is always paid to everything. Its compulsive and for me ideal binge. This show could go on for eons, and I hope it does.

The Flash (2014): Season 15
Mar 11, 2015
I started watching because of the episode crossover with Arrow, A show I really enjoy. Its no where near as good as **** not **** not great.. Doctor Wells and Iris are the only noticeable strongish characters and might make the leap to the Arrow if this show is relegated down the pecking order. Its primarily aimed at a very young audience and not at people of my age group to be fair. And with so much more quality out there, I think at the Episode 5 crossover I'm done.

Gotham: Season 18
Mar 1, 2015
Maybe not for the Batman purists but pretty good all the same. The Penguin character is the biggest hit for me giving Heath Ledger a run for his money. Some of the episodes are a little weak, the strong ones make up for them though. Its more adult than I expected and better for it. The city of Gotham is beautifully portrayed and attention to detail is extraordinary. Very entertaining.

The Knick: Season 110
Dec 24, 2014
There isn't one weak actor in the Knick, Every character, likeable or no, is played to a T. The futuristic sound track is beautiful and put me in a different space and perception when I watched this series. The un sung heroes of set and costume design are perfect, and there is some beautiful outstanding cinematography. Its a serious even sad series but don't let it dissuade you from watching. The issues raised are well addressed and have a strong contemporary ring to them. Political opinions are not shoved down your throat. The brilliance of flawed humanity is portrayed perfectly. The fragility of life in 1900 and how lucky we are to be alive today stuck me constantly. A masterpiece, Art.
