Love the plot and the comedy in this show but there’s one character I can’t stand and it’s the little girl with the hijab. She becomes so self-centered and snotty and acts like an adult and it doesn’t really make sense to me her place in the show.

This is a charming and funny comfort show about an alien who crashlands on Earth with the mission to destroy humanity, but instead gradually becomes more human as he is exposed to friendship, compassion, community, and everything that makes our species worthwhile.

This is a shame as It started off with a funny quirky flavour for a couple of episodes then nose dived into ‘meh’ humour and ‘modern audience’ character writing.

Fish out of water comedy. Based off season one and two. Fun adult comedy about alien coming to grips with human emotions, because his species doesn't have emotion. Until they take the form of creature that does. Looking forward to more seasons for sure. Season three had lost it shine or maybe it was just to long a wait between seasons to drop on Netflix? Dropping it from a 8/10 to 6/10 and I can wait for season four to drop.

Truly a shame, it started out alright, but by season 2 it devolves into woke trash. They really dial it up to full throttle in season two episode 3, where I wouldn't stomach it anymore. It gets a score of 2 simply because of alien character Harry, who can be genuinely funny and carried the show that far, but knowing the trajectory of the writing they would emasculate and destroy his character before long. It's sad that these writers are so captured by their ideology that they can't write without injecting their views into nearly every scene. It's killing western entertainment.

Firefly legend Tudyk in the house, so I was curious at first. Season 1 was surprisingly funny back then , and wasn't afraid to be goofy and weird. Then , as with more shows since 2015 , a season 2 comes along that almost seems a completely different show . Generic AI written Uber woke stuff. I really don't understand the industry itself anymore , there's only so many people that will watch multi season woke shows. The rest of us get interested in shows that are actually funny or thrilling , Fargo s1, or the Witcher s1 for example , it's not your job to rewrite them in the following years through the woke lens.

I really enjoyed this series. It was far better than I anticipated, and was genuinely funny! Some episodes were excellent, whereas others were clearly space fillers.Overall though, great acting and very humorous!

This is a great programme. Harry the Alien is hilarious and very well acted. It is a very good show and I haven't found a character annoying, or pointless yet. It is well presented and thought out with a simple plot that works so well. There needs to be a 4th series.

Started well like it but gave Up on second series. Increasingly they write all the men and the boy as flawed idiots. While it’s good to see positive female characters who are all generally well written they are all also as smarter and messages anti male increasingly pop up. it’s moving into female toxicity and its getting less fun

At times laugh out loud funny. I was glad to see season 1 and 2 were picked up by Netflix. The show deserves a wider audience. It's got heart. Alan Tudyk is wonderful, as is the whole supporting cast in general.

It could have been so good ... but no. This is the story of an incompetent alien from an inept race on a silly mission. The story makes no sense and anyone with half a brain will immediately see the many glaring issues in the pilot episode. Ignoring all that the show starts a bit funny it goes down fast. It's an American show from 2021 so "The Message" is there. And it's as difficult to watch as ever. I was able to go through by skipping any scene with: _ only women (so many so bad and weird, it's an insult) _ women and stupid men (most men in the show) _ children In a nutshell, if the alien is not in there, I skipped. After a few episodes even that wasn't enough and I had to stop. Don't waste your time and skip it completely.

Starts off amazing and then heads downhill towards end of season1; it’s like they saw what they did with Witcher and said “let us go do that!!!”. Harry the alien is great; the acting is superb and some amazing awkward funny. Towards end of season1 the alien / main character is side lined for terrible side stories of”strong women characters”. Into season2 I find myself fast forwarding through the scenes of the alcoholic morally corrupt woman character, the Muslim child who is woke, the abandoned child, and rest of trash they throw in that has nothing to do with main story. Entire thing is just odd; great story being ruined by these random tangents and sprawling story arcs on bland characters with cringe inducing performances. Breaks the immersion and ruins the show; just seems like another “don’t let a good story get in the way of some good ol political messaging.” Hey show writers, we watch shows to escape the world…. Just fyi…

A good show overall. Characters are cute. Modern shows are usually 1% compelling main story with 99% filling of bland dialogues and useless situations, but this one is the opposite, crap main story but creative stuffing. That being said, i pretty much agree about the uncalled for politics, natives, feminism, ecology, it's more insulting than useful. like hearing investment advices from a homeless guy.. Showbusiness is still not a real life useful job, if they all disappeared overnight the world would barely notice ^^ So.. yeah, entertain us and **** about the rest. Still, we got the magic of fast forwarding, that's no reason to shoot down a nice show

If you have nothing else to watch it is an OK show with average jokes. The woke commentary and racism is a bit annoying, but I've seen worse. Without it I'd have given it 7 points.

"Resident Alien" (S01, 10 eps, 1hr, SyFy) This is probably the dumbest syfy venture I can remember. There's very little sci-fi in this mostly family oriented (women and kids) romantic dramedy that has an unappealing Alan Tudyk playing an alien/human imposter with a woodenness and social awkwardness that screams Asperger's. The supporting cast is also unappealing yet "diverse" so yea Hollywood (eye roll), check that box. It's also based in some smallish, snowy Colorado town so you get the boring vibes of "Fargo", too. I could only last two eps before watching dust gather on my coffee table proved to be more interesting. And people are just killing the woke-agenda of season 2 so I'm glad I wasted no more time than two eps.

Fun but simple, it's strong concept quickly turns into an average dramedy with a sci-fi twist. Lacking any sophistication beyond its visual effects, makes light of the dramatic parts of it's story and opts for simple humour instead of something with more depth. Great to switch off and watch at the end of a work day though.

Season one great, season two awful. No real direction and as other commenters mentioned episode three is a complete mess with some woke storyline nonsensically crowbarred in.

Season 2 is not even the same show. Depressing, not funny. In season one Alan Tudyk's characters was so fun to watch, as he learned to negotiate in human form. Now it's ****. Storylines were dropped, character's personalities completely changed, doing things they never would have done in S1. Hate the new "woke" social commentary. Season 2 has been very disappointing

The first season was great: acting is good, characters are intriguing, cgi is not overintrusive, story is kind of okay, the whole thing is great. The second season on the other hand: it's an unbridled mess which peaks (poorly) on episode 3 (so far) of bad, it's like all the writers had no direction whatsoever and went with the worst ideas that could be thrown. Season one is a solid 9, season two is a solid 1 (maybe it will improve), average is 5.

This show is great good for a while, and then it slowly starts to lose sense of what makes in entertaining by trying to showcase a ham-fisted message. Once I figured out that it was produced by Amblin, I realized why they chose to subvert their characters for the message they wanted to get across. A lot of this show is just pieces of other sci-fi stories held together by the glue that is Alan Tudyk’s performance. Amblin still has its roots in the Spielberg school of “you’re gonna hear my message whether you want to or not”, and it suffers because of it. The mystery that they pretended to base the show around for the first few episodes doesn’t really turn out to be a mystery at all, they just string you along before revealing the obvious answer. I wish I could like this more, but the story was just a backdrop for typical social commentary one would expect from Spielberg and company, aimed at anyone that they don’t deem to be righteous.

My thoughts on Resident Alien and why you should move it up on your list of things to watch(No Spoilers) The beginning felt a little like it may just be a sitcom. But as the story unfolds (within episode one), it becomes something more. Eventually, you find yourself caught up in a sci-fi/dramedy/mystery series. The plot thickens and starts to offer up a little bit of something for every viewer. The show has a very talented group of actors, each perfectly suited for their roles. The story and characters keep you connected, and it doesn't need lots of special effects to keep you hooked. You will see some beautiful landscapes accompanied by a great soundtrack. By the end of this first season, I wanted to see and know more. The story is not complicated, just easy and fun to watch. While there are some heartfelt moments, the writers and directors do a great job keeping it light and fun. The show also has a funny way of pointing out the faults in humanity without making you feel labeled or judged. If you enjoy the vampire characters of What We do in the Shadows and the plot of Only Murders in the Building, then I think you will enjoy this show just as much. Thanks for taking the time out to read this brief review. Damian Ali @TalkTeaV

Charming comedy sci fi reminiscent of Twin Peaks without the darkness. Alan Tudyk is a delight, Sara Tomko and Alice Wetterlund also stand out. A show enjoyable for the scenes rather than the plot arch which exists entirely to set up amusing interplay between the cast of quirky characters.

Great mix of witty comedy with deeper societal commentary and slapstick comedy with plain old physical humor. I look forward to laughing out loud through the entire episode!

This was my review for season 1: Rating 10: To me this is a perfect sitcom. Funny, touching, lots of complexity, a clear plot development moving it along. But there were lots of unexpected elements that added to the quality. Good work to all that created it. It works on every level. Never a dull point. Season 2: rating is a 2 or 3. It is like a writer just used madlibs and made dialogue that was random. The drama is petty and small, and totally unnecessary. There is so much hostility. Especially anti-male revenge hostility. Why? I guess it was a calculation based on the season one audience. But it is painful to watch now. It seems like it is intended as an anti-popular crowd diatribe that loves to say a big blank U to people the writers don't like. There is not one male character that looks or acts like 99% of guys. Its like they are from another planet where they had only heard stories of what males were like from angry women and then tried to portray those characters in a show. And Harry is not funny anymore and his motivations are inexplicable.

Alan Tudyk plays the titular character who crash lands on Earth and assumes the identity of the local small-town doctor. This fish-out-of-water concept has been done before, but this show has several things going for it. First is Tudyk: His perfectly-awkward comic charm makes his mission to kill all Earthlings less treacherous and very amusing. He’s surrounded by an able supporting cast and writing that manages to be funny, dramatic and sweet. There are even some moments of mild suspense. It’s one of the few genuinely enjoyable new shows on cable. The first season just concluded with season 2 announced.

The stranger in a strange land/fish out of water troupe has been around for eons, but Resident Alien has its biggest advantage front and **** great Alan Tudyk. Although it can seem like a mashup of Monk, Northern Exposure and, I guess, Alf, it's the work of Tudyk that lifts the series. Not to belittle the supporting cast and production team, but it's Tudyk' s show and he runs with it.

It is a little show, sometimes a bit silly, but it's very entertaining. More importantly it humbly yet cleverly and stealthily alludes to some very important truths. Episode 8 was a beautiful explanation on what is so wrong with America today: The lack of perspective! Indeed, Harry's little aside on the Oz'"flying monkeys" should be heeded by everyone ....right and ....left. It's a veiled attack on PC culture! Good on them. Thumbs up for the audacity.

Ok Such a promising show that does its best to fill the horse shaped hole in our hearts from the loss of Happy! though much softer around the edges. Toned down but a lot of the same dark, edgy humor. It is far from perfect. The show is built on an incredibly well worn path in the model of Northern Exposure and other "stranger in a strange land" type themes. With a touch of mystery and drama that plays out similar to Wayward pines and a character construct loosely modeled on a combination of Invader Zim and Dexter. That said, comfortable can be good too. Outside of a few of the jokes failing to land in the first 3 episodes, for the most part the assemblage of its various parts is a well made and well acted cobbling together of favorite entertainment comfort food. Definitely my favorite new show of 2021 so far. However given that this is a comic book property that is not owned by SciFi channel, there is every likelihood that this too will suffer the same fate as others before it such as the aforementioned Happy!, Deadly Class, Dark matter, etc. So enjoy it while it lasts cause even though its really good, all signs point to it not being long for this world. Or maybe I am just cynical and jaded after being burnt by Scifi channel so many times like this. Which, yanno, is the target demographic for this type of programming. I would say 7.5-7.75 out of 10 Rounded up to 8
