Resident Alien

This excellent sci-fi series, which cleverly blends comedy and drama with a murder mystery, is a blast. “Resident Alien” is laugh-out-loud funny, full of heart-felt moments and, much like Harry himself, surprisingly sincere. It’s the first must-watch show of 2021.

Resident Alien knows what it is doing and does it with admirable sincerity. It deploys well-worn tropes without cynicism and plays with others without winking exhaustingly at its audience.

Among all the secret weapons inhabiting “Resident Alien” the principal one is Mr. Tudyk. ... “Resident Alien” isn’t always laugh-out-loud funny—there’s a murder case at the center of it, after all—but it’s got a good sense of how much nonsense people will listen to before they start blaming the person they’re talking to. And how much nonsense they’re willing to serve up.

The writing isn’t quite of that caliber [“Northern Exposure”]—it too often goes for easy character beats instead of nuanced storytelling—but this is a consistently likable show at a time when people could use something comfortable and easy.

That uneven hit-to-miss ratio means Resident Alien is only fitfully entertaining, at least for now. Whenever Tudyk or Wetterlund (or both, in the show’s best scenes) are onscreen, the show generally shines, remaining funny and engaging despite the odd stumble.

The TV incarnation of Resident Alien struggles to find a consistent tone, layers in more artificial storytelling obstacles than the premise requires and only occasionally figures out how to use its appealing cast. ... After seven episodes I'd grown tired of wading through the half-dozen plotlines I didn't care about for the one or two that I did.

Very good a lot of laughs and I would very highly recommend this to my friends and family.

If you have nothing else to watch it is an OK show with average jokes. The woke commentary and racism is a bit annoying, but I've seen worse. Without it I'd have given it 7 points.

Fun but simple, it's strong concept quickly turns into an average dramedy with a sci-fi twist. Lacking any sophistication beyond its visual effects, makes light of the dramatic parts of it's story and opts for simple humour instead of something with more depth. Great to switch off and watch at the end of a work day though.

This is a shame as It started off with a funny quirky flavour for a couple of episodes then nose dived into ‘meh’ humour and ‘modern audience’ character writing.

Started well like it but gave Up on second series. Increasingly they write all the men and the boy as flawed idiots. While it’s good to see positive female characters who are all generally well written they are all also as smarter and messages anti male increasingly pop up. it’s moving into female toxicity and its getting less fun
