Just not good. Glover is so far from believable as an action star. Dude can barely move with agility. The plots are rote, slow, and way too dialogue heavy. Honestly the highlight of the show would be the locales. Overall it just leaves so much to be desired.

I really liked this take on the story. Really enjoyed some of the surprise cast or cameos. Ron Perlman was so fun to watch in an unusual role; very unlike Sons of Anarchy or Hellboy. Parker Posey is always great, loved her in Lost in Space and again in this. Donald Glover kind of went from Community to this for me - with a couple of little stops in at the Spider-verse, where I'm keen to see more - and he's great. Maya Erskine I wasn't aware of prior to this; also great. I think they both bring something really genuine to those moments where the characters connect. I feel like both actors really delivered on the comedy and drama of their character's situations and I'm keen to see where they take this show.

Why do critics like this show?The story telling was flawed right from the get go, events didn't make any sense internally. The show is uninteresting, and boring and the characters are not compelling.

This highly original take on the classic film starts off strong with interesting and likeable characters who deftly improvise their way through thrilling action setups. There's also some sweet romance. As the series progresses, the main characters become completely unlikeable and incompetent, concluding the series in a farcical and ambiguous way that betrays the original audience. I'm not sure what the creators were thinking here.

I really liked the first chapters, the two have chemistry, and I think it is a good different story, well told, well acted.

I don't know who thought the original Mr. & Mrs. Smith was good enough that it needed a reboot. This show is a bit of a mess. If you thought from the trailers that it was the next Jack Ryan or Reacher, then you're completely wrong. It's much more of a relationship drama than it is an action film. Its biggest problems is the pacing and the script. There are entire episodes where nothing happens and it's just John and Jane talking to each other. The therapy episode and diner date episode are good examples of this. All of the action in these scenes are literal 45 second montages. I'm not sure if the budget ran out or if it's just a bad script. There's also a lot of unlikable characters in this. I get that you're not really supposed to like John and Jane since they spend a lot of time stating their personality issues at the start of the show (they want you to know they're awkward people with trust issues) but other characters are just as annoying. Ron Perlman's is insufferable since he's written more like a whinny teenager than a pensioner. Other than that it's an ok show with Donald Glover and Maya Erskine giving fantastic performances. The actions scenes although sparse are done really well.

insanely boring and unlikable characters. Why it even shares the name of it's predecessor popcorn-flick is beyond me. Amazon is sabotaging their productions with their news rules **** they hire, and claiming through in all aspects: Bad acting, bad writing, bad production, and bad directing. The writing and "acting" being the top offenders. Maybe go back to merit based fim and tv production? Just a thought.

Bloated and slow with occasional action scenes which are over the top and unrealistic. Several scenes where machine guns get fired at point blank range and not one bullet hits anything. Plot holes galore. Not worth watching imo.

Fabulous reimagining of the original movie- hilarious, nuanced, and head-scratching (usually in a good way). The premise and its exploration (I'd call this a mystery romance screwball comedy adventure series- roughly in that order) is contemporary and provocative. The acting is top-notch, The soundtrack is brilliant and memorable. The humor is spiky and usually on-target and the set design is great, arty. Much of the viewer criticism of this show is either emanating from the usual right-wing watchers who are offended or alienated by its 'diversity' (which the show really doesn't lean on in any stilted way); pertains to it's being 'boring' (it's much more a romance than an action series, and is not for people wanting a simple spy/assassin adventure adaptation); or too implausible. While the last critique is most defensible, e.g., of the characters' odd mix of strengths and weaknesses for people doing their line of work, I think a show of this kind- which is basically in the vein of absurdist screwball workplace romance- needs to be accepted somewhat on its own terms to work at all, which means accepting that the narrative is far from airtight in the conventional superficial sense, but still works well enough alongside all of the series' strengths and charm. Okay, 'nuff said.

This banger of a show came right on time and is upholding the nuance 'celebrity marriage' take from its previous adaptation.

I tried to watch it, but couldn't go past the first 20 minutes of the first episode. Who is this garbage made for?

Boring! Too much "relationship therapy conversation", too less action and nearly no story. This show is unnecessary. The original movie with Pitt/Jolie was sexy fun. This show is nothing of anything.

I must admit some skepticism going in — but this was an incredible series (with perhaps the best musical score for a TV show ever made). A mix between ATLANTA, PEN15, and James Bond. Maya Erskine is a revelation; there is not a single false note in her performance. Donald Glover is the epitome of fashion and charm. The cinematography is lush and the locations are transporting. Most impressive of all is the writing, which both deepens and cleverly subverts the original source material; the result is a thrilling, funny, and at times truly affecting portrayal of two people thrust together in a relationship that becomes surprisingly intimate. The first great TV show of 2024; I hope the Emmys are paying attention.

This show had so much fantastic potential; however, halfway through the first season, it all began to break down and fall apart. Janes's character is exceptionally well written, whereas John lacks luster and pathetic puppy dog character. It makes it very hard to believe he was ever a Marine. It seems like the show is more focused on Donald's personal branding than creating an amazing, believable character. I was so turned off by his character development and progression felt like I had to leave this review. Honestly was so disappointed.

I like that they attempted something different with this show. The scrip and acting are excellent, the comedy hits the right notes and the characters are intriguing. Sometimes the blend of action, comedy, relationship drama and intrigue doesn't pay off quite as well, but when it works it is prestige TV. I didn't rate the film too highly, so didn't expect much from this... so was pleasantly surprised.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith is a decent spy thriller based on the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie movie. I don't remember the movie well, but this series has more comic undertones. I likes the camera work and decent action scenes. The comedy is delightfully smart, at times. But the writing and editing don't support the story premise. Mr. and Mrs. Smith are portrayed to have extensive intelligence training and experience. Their combat skills are evident in the action scenes, but their sometimes-boneheaded level of intelligence prowess is really confusing. The audience knows instantly that the Smith's "chance" meeting with a couple of colleagues was a dangerous set-up. Neither of the characters figure that out until the last episode. These mistakes aren't the kind bumbling characters make. It's not Get Smart. These are flaws in the writing that fail to convince the audience that these two characters are specially trained operatives, under any circumstances. Too frequently the story is scattered and inconsistent. I finished it feeling unsure about who this couple was: Misfit-but-skilled intelligence operatives whose life circumstances threw them into an unconventional "marriage"; or bumbling, wannabe spies with mental health disorders. You decide. They attempted to interweave a spy thriller, action and satire, and they lost the story authenticity along the way.

Very fitting that the top good review has never seen the original, thus indicating their complete lack of taste.

Having never seen the movie, I watched this without any preconceived notions and found it very enjoyable. This isn’t action-based or sexy, it’s a really well-executed character-based series. The leads are great, the camera work and settings are impressive. A really great “look” to the series, and great vibe. It’s a slow burn, but it’s achieved skillfully.

Incredibly bad. Another steaming pile of dung put out by the death cult minions. They glorify killing and gun violence and perpetuate the idea that what ever the three letter agencies do is romantic and actually helps create a better world. The acting is pathetic and that's generous. Its really obvious only certain types of people can get cast in these productions and only people willing to play the game are allowed to participate in production. Donald Glover has had decent stuff in the past but this outing is just strange. The chick isn't even worth googling to get her name. She just **** and prob will never lead a series again. F the people circle jerking themselves pretending they are making quality tv. I'm convinced the newer generation of creators don't watch anything from the past and have 0 clue what true masterwork even is. What a joke. Obviously very talented folks are involved with the filming and editing but they can only shine a turd so well. The brain rot in the decision making level is so apparent. We're not all idiots, we are students of film and consume the classics and great works of history. It's all at our fingertips. I suggest the miscreants involved start doing some homework and realize your work is garbage and severely lacking any talent. All these people just party and consume trash which is why they are only capable of producing it.

It mostly succeeds in the chances that it takes, most notably, that we’ll be interested in these two as people, and not just drawn to the regular action sequences. Through all of it, it’s evident that these two are actually pretty nice people who genuinely care about each other. I’ll have to admit, however, that the music is my favorite part. And I guess the spoiler is this minor annoyance: I didn’t realize until the last episode that five months had transpired from the first time they met; there’s no concept of chronology. Hollywood running out of ideas still. When they reboot old franchises they're slower and worse off than the original. The 2005 movie was decent, but this show brings the franchise down. Save your time and skip.

Fun action with good characters and fresh feel. Way better than the movie with Brangelina.

It's kinda hard to compete with Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, but don't worry the ESG and DEI is on point, so if that's all you're wanting in a television series then you'll be VERY happy. Otherwise - 2 stars

I have to say, the leads work well together and each episode stands by itself and is interesting. Their repartee is humorous; their criticisms of each other is pretty much what all humans deal with. I thought this would be pretty WOKE but it is entertaining, which is the sole reason for a TV show. The later episodes are a bit disjointed. So, we'd give this a: "go ahead and watch, although it may not be everyone's kind of program."

Seems far overrated. Maya Erskine´s acting is poor and not convincing. I would have liked to see Phoebe Waller-Bridge in the role of Mrs. Smith. She would have been the better choice for sure!

This is a good, occasionally great show, that doesn't quite justify having 8 episodes. A tighter 6 may have served it better. Saying that, there's great chemistry between the leads, amazing locations, great tension and fun cameos. A fun binger that hopefully tweaks and tunes itself up enough for a stronger sophomore effort that it is almost certain to get. Recommended!

Donald Glover & Maya Erksine plays spies who are assigned to become a married couple. Obviously, this starts out awkwardly before their relationship becomes romantic. Unlike the original version that starred Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie as glamorous and sexy, this duo is played more for mildly quirky. Actually, that's what the creators were going for this time: Less action and more character comedy. There's at least one hurried, but unexciting action beat in every episode, but the rest of the time is spent with them in conversations and conflicts. Fortunately, Glover handles the off-hand comments well and Erksine (best known as the bowl-cut middle schooler in PEN15) adds her sly moments too. Even so, the writing isn't especially witty and the situations are rather bland, so outside their occasionally charming personalities, there's not much to make this worth watching. Man, I've missed Glover since Atlanta has been over. This definitely scratches that itch. This is very good, better than expected, funny as hell, and overturns cliches and expectations.
