Instantly likable prequel to Black-ish. ... Mixed-ish is a delightful example of how history — not nostalgia — can be used to help us see our present day more perceptively through the lens of yesterday.

From the first episode, it looks like mixed-ish, in the same vein of its predecessor black-ish, has all the ingredients to tackle those difficult grey areas in a smart, articulate, and funny way.

I have never gone out of my way to find how to even give feedback about anything on tv. But this show is the best thing ever!!!!! So nostalgic and HILARIOUS!!! I literally cant stop laughing out loud even the neighbors can hear when I am watching Mixed-ish. Whoever is writing this is the most gifted. I cant even start about the **** all know Tika and Mark-Paul are talented, but my God what about aunt Dee-dee and White Grandpa and Santi!!!!! Wow!! Yes, Rainbow is amazing too and Yohan! The storyline is so real! But the family values shown in this series is beautiful! Its a family trying to figure it out but determined to stick it together through the painful realities so many are still in denial about. I love this show so much and believe everyone, all shades, can truly enjoy and be introspective about in their lives. I could only hop that this show stays on the air for 7 seasons and beyond like Friends and Seinfeld and all other timepieces. This is a timepiece of the 80s!

We love this show! I was a little girl at just about the same time and it’s a fun walk down memory lane. I think some of the clothes Rainbow And her friends wear I actually had in my closet. It’s great to watch with my daughter so she can experience what life was like growing up in the 80’s and we can both learn about the experiences Rainbow faces as a girl of mixed race. It helps us both gain a deeper understanding of issues we might not be aware of and the grandfather adds some amusing comic relief. It’s just a really sweet show about going through those tough middle school years and teaching without being too preachy. I hope others discover what a great show this is!

The retro feel of ABC comedies is wearing thin; the kids, though, are cute.

Himmel, Childress and Harris as younger versions of Ross, Daveed Diggs and Rashida Jones continue ABC’s streak of casting uncannily good child actors. ... For all the ground it covers, there’s not nearly enough time, but in fairness, just about every pilot has the same problem. The more interesting test for “Mixed-ish” will be how it pushes the conversation about the challenges and privileges of being biracial beyond any single episode that’s been devoted to Bow and her background thus far.

Fans of “black-ish” are likely to enjoy this period comedy that gets a boost from Gary Cole (“Veep”) as Bow’s paternal grandfather.

While the show is mostly well cast, with the expressive Arica Himmel making a great 12-year-old Rainbow Johnson, the humor in the premiere episode vacillates between being too saccharine and too bluntly reliant on well-worn racial stereotypes.

I've been a fan of Black-ish since the beginning. This show captures a lot of the same humor and sincerity. I also applaud the show for representing biracial experiences.
