Well-produced, but the "real" story's already been told (hint: It's the movie).

What's best about this series is the prevailing sense that Sonnenshine has actually read the books and esteems them, especially the characters who so memorably fill their pages.

Gadd remains a first-rate talent; anything he does is worth watching. But it's hard to sit through this one.
