Better than “Goliath," “Landman” lets Thornton convey the emotions that color a “cigarettes and Dr Pepper” kind of guy. The role fits better than a well-worn pair of jeans and, like his trusty boots, never lets him down. He’s one of the best actors of the season in a show that could be one of the best of this or any year.

Those on the fence won’t change their mind about this show after watching another season. However, for roughnecks who have been punching holes waiting for their next dose of Texas tea, the return of Landman once again drills deep into a different perspective on American life.

"Landman" (S02, 10eps, 1hr, Param+) Taylor Sheridan has a gift people, and you better enjoy it while you can because writer-showrunners like him are few and far between. "Landman" is a gotdam great show from season 1 ep1 through season 2 ep 10 - not a piece of fat in between. Every scene of every episode is crafted for your enjoyment. Every character is multi-dimensional. Having said that, this is not a show for people easily offended, this is an adult show in every aspect of that term. There are twists and there are turns that keep you coming back for more. This is a show with the legs to go 5+ seasons. The oil business is a fascinating topic that no other show has featured. And it plays out mainly in the oil fields of Texas but you get the private planes and boardrooms of the barons. The principal actors are all fantastic, each should be nominated for emmies and they're all worthy of it. Understand this, look at my other reviews, and you'll see I'm harsh and critical when it's warranted, I rarely award "10" to a show or movie, but this one deserves it hands down. Enjoy it while you can.

Landman doesn't break much new ground in the Sheridanverse, but it's a satisfying twist on the formula. As Sheridan imitators proliferate, there's still nothing like the real thing.

While the first two episodes provided didn't quite capture me the way season 1 did, season 2 has at least laid out some interesting paths forward with the introductions of a few new characters.

Unfortunately, this isn't a one-man show, and everyone else--cardboard heroes, villains and especially the caricatured women (including Ali Larter as his spoiled, ridiculous sexpot ex-wife)--could use a tune-up. [9 - 29 Dec 2024, p.4]

Big stars (not always well-used), big melodramatic swings (not always well-executed), and big tonal detours that left me unsure if Landman is meant to be at least semi-comedic. There’s a huge ensemble but very few fully conceived characters, just lots of Stetson-wearing dogmatic monologues waiting to happen.

The series would be bad enough if it was just dull and insipid, which it is, but it comes with a intensely off-putting bit of male gaze that makes the series read as soft-core porn for old men who want to leer at teenage girls without any repercussions. It verges on outright disgusting, set against a generic setting and plot beats copied from old "Yellowstone" scripts.

A complete breath of fresh air. Feels like a true piece of entertainment which is missing in most shows nowadays that somehow always break the immersion one way or another with real world beliefs overtaking the narrative rather than a compelling story with likable characters.

I mostly enjoyed the first season minus the mom and daughter scenes, some of them were cringy. However I had to come here and rate it after seeing the first episode of the second season, it was by far the worst episode and it was mostly filled with mom and daughter acting crazy plus the two girls in the bathroom acting like stupid honry bimbos. I'd rate it an easy 8 without the girls. Taylor Sheridan should stop writing his shows with girls acting like they're horny and immature. Hopefully season 3 of Landman without Sheridan will be better.

Well, I am not an average republican who lives in Texas and hates everything that's slightly darker than white, but this show was interesting at the start, but slowed down in the middle. The main character is an rusty, old **** that pisses me off so much you can't even imagine. Other old 'gentlemen' who live with our main character are kind and respectful. I love them. Oh, and his son. He is such a cootie-patootie. Finally, I won't really recommend this work, cause it's just like any other film about drugs, Mexicans and all that stuff.

Taylor Sheridan getting predictable now. The roles of Ali Larter and her bimbo daughter ruin what may well could be a decent series. They both really add nothing of substance other being annoyingly stereotypical blonde and slim eye candy. Add in the poor recurring soundtrack which he insists on throwing into this and similarly Yellowstone he simply tries to promote what im guessing are up and coming artists, it makes for a flop in my eyes.
