Of course we want the terror plot to be foiled but none of the protagonists is particularly likeable or empathetic, and their beef with each other is of modest interest as the plot twists away gently like an airsock in a light breeze.

Part Thursday Murder Club, part Stranger Things, The Boroughs may not sweep the board at the Emmys but it is an unexpectedly entertaining mix of adventure and wonder, drama and humour.

This is glossy, big-budget drama filled with adrenaline — and a mighty fine early 1990s soundtrack — but it’s not without moments of comic relief, giving it a British feel that will undoubtedly please fans of Forsyth’s previous work on the BBC.

While those in the market for jump-scares galore may be disappointed by the relative restraint here, the show is a masterclass in slowly building a sense of tension and anxiety while not being afraid to bring in the blood and gore when required.

As season two unfolds, the secrets deep below the surface grow darker, the tension ratchets to new levels at each revelation. It may begin in Graceland. But by the time things move on, you can’t help falling in love with this show all over again.

Steal may not redefine the genre but it understands how to grip a viewer, up the ante and, most importantly, entertain.

Those on the fence won’t change their mind about this show after watching another season. However, for roughnecks who have been punching holes waiting for their next dose of Texas tea, the return of Landman once again drills deep into a different perspective on American life.

A big swing from Vince Gilligan — he’s delivered another addictive piece of television that, like all the best sci-fi-adjacent content, is as much about asking questions and challenging ideas as it is about the expansive world it creates and the characters that exist within it.

While Ruth Wilson’s Sarah may be the way you’re drawn into this adventure, Emma Thompson’s delightfully acerbic Zoë Boehm is the reason to stay.

Despite a good central performance by Powell, it’s hard to really care about Russ/Chad. ... But while the comedy lacks the life-affirming positivity of Ted Lasso or the redemptive quality of Stick, there will still be plenty of viewers cheering on Chad at the end of this six-episode season.
