As opposed to film, television proves itself to be the ideal format for adapting Verne’s tale, given how each new location lends itself nimbly to a new episodic adventure, and the pace across the first season stays lively.

Around the World in 80 Days isn’t an earth-shattering Jules Verne adaptation, but it is a lovely one. Thanks mostly to the way it understands how to harness David Tennant’s magnificence on screen.

I haven't read the book and really can't remember much about the movie so I'm not comparing this version to either of them. It seems like many of the negative comments (here and at IMDB) boil down to an unfavorable comparison to both of the above. Well, I don't need to worry about that and I have no problem with writers changing the original. I've really enjoyed this version tremendously and feel that it has gotten stronger from episode to episode.

This was a fun romp of a series! I found it to be well acted and scripted and a wonderful addition to those depicting Verne's stories! I enjoyed watching how animated David Tennant portrayed his character. His supporting cast was very believable as well. The show is filled with non-stop adventure including a well balanced mix of "****", drama and comedy. It's all-around enjoyable entertainment for the whole family!

This Around the World frolic might just be the ticket for those whose wanderlust was curtailed in recent years. Buckle up. [3 - 16 Jan 2022, p.9]

Masterpiece’s adaptation of the Verne classic adds almost nothing significant to the story of Phileas Fogg and his companions. It remains firmly within the limits set by the novel in 1872, turning a journey around the world from an adventure into unknown lands to a stroll along a well-trodden footpath. It is an expansion that does not exceed the constraints of the original tale and perhaps even flounders under the weight of attempting to tell every aspect of Verne’s story and then some.

London and Paris look nearly identical here, perhaps both shot on the same block in Romania. In every frame, you can sense corners being cut. ... TV is finally in a position to faithfully remake Around the World in 80 Days, so why not give it the treatment it deserves?

In the end, this “Around the World” is more cringeworthy than fun.

A solid enough adaption of the Verne classic, that does play it rather safe at times. It tries to tackle some important social issues along the way, but it does come across as rather forced and half baked.

This was enjoyable, but all felt a bit thin and predictable -- I'm mostly glad that the cast and crew got to enjoy some nice scenic locales.

Wanted something lighter or more historical accurate. Incredible boring Such a shame since the time period has the whole explorer mythos that to me is catnip. Im putting all the blame on the writers. Thought it looked ok even if found the color tone a odd choice, clothes were good. And actors did a good job in my opinion but read someone else saying its "putting lip stick on a pig" which sums it up better then could myself.
