Tombstone is incredibly entertaining. While not entirely original and not always well executed, it manages to keep your attention for the entire 130-minute duration. And let's face it, Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday is what really sets it apart.

"Tombstone" (1993) is a much known movie by now. It is know because first and the most important thing - this movie is superb. It's also know for terrific performance by Val Kilmer who was snubbed for at least an Oscar nomination back in the day - at least. Because as good as Gene Hackman was in "Unforgiven", the best performance in a supporting role was by Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday in my opinion. Others were also great and this movie truly captured that friendship between two main characters. Now it is known that this movie went through 9 circles of hell before it was finally released, with directors switching and etc, and its a true miracle that the final film eventually turned out to be superbly entertaining western.Overall, superbly paced, strongly acted by all involved, with one superb performance, great cinematography and very solid directing, this is a must see western. It's a true classic in many ways.

Kilmer makes a surprisingly effective and effete Holliday, but Russell lacks the stature for Earp - Sam Elliott as his older brother Virgil suggests a better movie. There's a misguided romantic subplot and the ending rather sprawls, but mostly this is rootin', tootin' entertainment with lots of authentic facial hair.

As much as these actors heroically struggle to focus the film, the director more successfully hacks it apart. But if you really love Westerns, despite its faults, it's got to be recommended for Kilmer's performance alone.

For the most part, Tombstone is inept. Some of the performances are wincingly bad: Dana Delany, playing a touring actress with the hots for Wyatt, is particularly embarrassing. Director George P. The actors, the story, the **** a spectacular Val Kilmer. And Kurt Russell filling in directorial duties gives it substance. Desers multiple viewings.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time! It has a great story and characters you can understand and enjoy. The acting is amazing and the movie has so many great quotes and scenes. Tombstone is a true masterpiece.

A great cast and good cinematography don't make up for the slow, uneventful story that fails to truly capture what made the events at Tombstone the stuff of legend.
