It's an enjoyable enough film on its own, but it's a really bad adaptation of the 2013 Tomb raider reboot video game. If you haven't played the game then you'll likely think it's good enough. So much is removed from what was in the game. All the supernatural elements and Lara's colleagues for example, but they did add in a brand new character for Daniel Wu to play for some reason. This probably should have been a TV show with a faithful adaptation. That could have been really good.

Greetings from Lithuania.
To call a "Tomb Raider" (2018) a great movie found be a lie. But the truth is that i haven't had so much fun watching video game based movie in many moons. I loved both rebooted games on which this movie is based on (and can't wait for the third installment in game series). The truth is that both "Tomb Raider" games weren't really deep into their stories nor characters - it was about adventures, tombs and exploration. This movie gives exactly that - fun and good looking adventures. The performance by Alicia Vikander was very good - she carries the movie. But i would have loved to see more of Walton Goggins character - he was an interesting villain. Action sequences were good as well as set design.Overall, "Tomb Raider" isn't a great movie, but its a very fun adventure movie. Its closely based on its source material and doesn't tried to reinvent the wheel - it have me exactly what i was looking for from a "Tomb Raider" movie - a very fun adventure.

Kind of a mid movie. Not bad, not good. It's entertaining somewhat if your looking for an action movie on a lazy day. It could have been a start to a series. The actress did a good job. The story is just underwhelming. Also dislike the shaky cam found footage style of filming, can this trend die already. It seems to be only at beginning though, so not really a big thing.

This was one of the best Tomb Raider Movie. The role of Lara Croft played by Alicia Vikander was perfect in it. The adventure and story was amazing. Loved this movie, would've loved to watch it's 2nd part, but sadly they cancelled it. Hope to see it come back.
Lara Croft Movie like this should keep going on, and shouldn't stop ever.

Lara was such an icon during my teenage years—a strong, sexy, empowered, and independent woman. But the version of her in this series? That’s definitely not the Lara Croft we know from the games. If you want the real Lara, stick to the video games and just pretend this series doesn’t exist .

Tomb Raider is a fun movie with a mostly predictable story and terrible dialogue writing. On the one hand the characters have a fairly good arc in the movie, which makes it enjoyable to watch. On the other hand the dialogues are terrible. Neither dynamic, nor creative. The stroy is fairly predictable with one smaller twist, which was surprising and refreshing to see. The cinematography, editing, directing was seemless. Nothing extraordinary or terrible. The acting performances were okay. The action performances were pretty good though. The visual effects were mostly good, except for a few scenes where it was terrible. Tomb Raider is fun action movie with terrible dialogues.

I really enjoyed this. The actress who played Lara Croft was great. Too bad it just didn't do well at the box office. I'd love to see a sequel.

Forget about the previous Tomb Raider movies, this new iteration is a more rugged, grittier, and grounded take on the character. Starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, this rebooted version follows a reluctant and headstrong hero, rather than the over-the-top teenage dream of past years. The story follows Lara as she uncovers the truth about her missing father's work as an intrepid explorer, leading her to a mysterious island in the Devil's Sea where she faces off against a bad archaeologist, Mathias Vogel (Goggins). Though the plot is predictable and the dialogue is flawed, the movie is anchored by Vikander's tireless lead performance and it's one of the better video game adaptations out there. The movie's visual and musical elements are strong, but the ending is rushed and weak.
_____________________________

Still refusing to accept her father’s death nearly a decade after his disappearance, Lara Croft gains access to a secret chamber in her father's tomb. A discovery inside sends her to a mysterious island that may explain what happened to her father. Based loosely on the rebooted video game series from 2013, Tomb Raider doesn’t do anything particularly new or interesting but the lead performance from Alica Vikander and some decent action sequences make it watchable enough.

based on crystal dynamic and square enix's 2013's tomb raider's third reboot the story rip off the 2013 game to the tee its uninspired, unoriginal, boring and filled with plot holes and plot armor Alicia Vikander can't not act to save her own life she's a bigger crybaby then 2013 reboot lara croft she's annoying and everything is handed to her with a silver platter nothing is earn and that stupid bow arrow from 2013 tr reboot is incredibly lame they try too hard to be empowering and everything feels forced and convenient for the protagonist. this movie is so bad that they used her dual custom pistols as a cameo they literally had their DMC moment in the movie. lmfao.
this movie and the 2013 reboot trilogy games has nothing to do with the source material and lore, it even goes against tomb raider's creators of core design of their vision of tomb raider and it even lara croft's creator toby gard who literally said lara was never attended to be emotional and reliable. hell lara croft is supposed to be a loner bcuz she has trust issues. the games trying so hard to turn tomb raider into something that its not even trying to make it realistic when it was never intended to be realistic. this whole 2013 fixation is fan fiction bcuz it didn't come from the source material and crystal tried to build off of that which had no foundation to begin with and now they made a movie based off of that, that's literally isn't lara. u can't even compare this garbage to simon west tomb raider bcuz his movies was loosely based on core design lara despite not being completely faithful it did lara justice to what was established in the source material angelina jolie is thee definitely live action lara croft bcuz that was the only time the character was depicted accurately with core design involvement u know the studio that created world of tomb raider and created source material and lore and even created lara's actual origins story and her entire backstory which is all ignored including the fact that lara is supposed to be a millionaire that seeks danger as an adventure as her way to cope over her lost of her parents (which was later retcon in tomb raider chronicles by revealing her parents was still alive when was presume dead when she was buried alive in a cave and would later escape to confront her mentor which was the plot for angel of darkness) and lara is a loner with trust issues with no time for relationships. lara was literally a phomenmon in the 90's lara croft was a sex symbol: Lara Croft’s status as a 90s sex symbol is one of gaming’s most defining cultural milestones. When she debuted in 1996, her hyper-sexualized marketing positioned her as a pin-up. However, her unprecedented agency as a female action hero completely shifted the industry's landscape. she was featured on playboy magazines, commercials everything she was everywhere but nowadays they're trying to make lara flat chested, overly emotional, overly reliant on others & depended on others, reliable, even damsel in distress everything that toby gard said that he didn't want her to be. it disregard the source material, it disregard the creators vison THIS MOVIE IS GARBAGE!!! and it's ONLY "TOMB RAIDER" in NAME ONLY. just like like it's "lara Croft" in name only bcuz it doesn't resemble what toby gard created and envision and it doesn't resemble what core deign build on, their envision for lara croft bcuz it's just as much as their creation as it is as toby gard and what core established when they created the world of tomb raider, established lara croft and help defined the character and when core created the source material. their visions should never be ignore and their legacies should always be respected. not the crystal dynamics and their fan fiction bcuz tomb raider is not their creation and not theirs to mess with. its bad enough crystal dynamics gave tomb raider 2 different timelines on top of core design's timeline which makes it 3 timelines bcuz crystal dynamics never cared about tomb raider that's why they're trying to changed everything that makes tomb raider for what they wanted it to be. square enix showed that they never cared about tomb raider ip bcuz they sold tomb raider for virtual currency NFT's. this movie is a joke and it's based off fan fiction not established source material that was created by the tomb raider creators (toby gard and core deisgn).

mediocre garbage. Dull, uninspirng, actress feels like a secondary character in her own movie, the plot is generic, predictable and cliche, the movie doesn’t feel like the game because they refuse to use first person shots of the action scenes when it is needed,… etc

Nota: 6.3

I've been playing the Tomb Raider games since the 2013 reboot. Although I prefer Uncharted, I liked the series so I gave this 2018 movie a try. I was satisfied. At first it looked pretty bad, but it didn't take long for it to get better. There was more or less always something going on in the beginning, but as time went on the movie picked up a little more pace and I enjoyed that. Mostly it comes down to the change of location and that is of course the island. The action scenes were great. The story was good too. What I still liked was the end of the movie where there was a little reveal the last scene was awesome. For me a good movie that I recommend.

Waaaay overused "sprout" nickname, silly overused kiss on the fingers and stretch out hand gesture. Annoying fight scenes where Lara kicks less ass than her opponents even though she is trained in martial arts and they are not. She always gets beaten down again and again, and only when the fight has gone on for a while does she start to overtake even a little bit. Why can't she just be bad-ass!? It's infuriating to watch the bad guys get so much head-room. I get that this is sort of an origin story for Lara Croft, so she can't be superb at everything she does. But it just doesn't work well in this case. The overall plot is ok but it's bogged down by clichés. It always does what you guess it will do - quite predictable in a bad way.
It also tries to be witty here and there, but it doesn't really work. It's more like dad-joke witty (which can be fun in other contexts mind you) than clever witty. Alicia did a good job as Lara and I'd say she's the only reason to watch the movie. Her performance at least raises the movie to a level where it's watchable. Without her it would be a slog-fest. Yes, it manages to be quite boring too. And the predictability is to blame much of the time. Example: Lara arrives at a port to search for a ship. She carries her bag over one shoulder very loosely. I instantly thought "She gon' get roooobb'd". 10 seconds later 3 lads show up, clearly up to no good. They ask her "Whatcha' doin' in our neighborhood? . . . Do you need help?". What does Lara do? She says "Yeah, actually I do, I need to find this boat" and moves up to them, bag swinging right up under their noses. And yes, they of course grab it and start running off. Cue long boring chase scene... Some scenes also seems to have been added to make it look like the newer video games. I'd rather just play the game, thank you very much. They don't add anything either, other than being a "Wow, that's just like in the video game!". So I guess it's what they call fan service. I didn't care for it, even though I did like the games. So, what's good about it? Let me think... I liked the first 20 minutes or so. I think it portrayed a rootless Lara pretty well. I also liked the Lu Ren character, but he's unfortunately only used in a few scenes. They should have spend more time on that. They acted well together and gave the movie some much-needed character substance. The antagonists are mostly just the boring brute type. No identity other than loving to shoot their guns in the air whenever they are happy about something.

Wow that was really not good How can you make such an interesting character so boring and canine? The way the movie was written made me forget Lara as an iconic character
It was a really boring ride with scribbled elements that makes no sense
The worst thing about the movie was Alicia Vikander i don't say that she is not an good actress she just didn't fit for the role at all how the hell she got the role ?
Anyway for me this movie was a mess especially this new approach of her

I am reviewing this movie right before trying to finish the 3rd installment of the game series of Tomb Raider, and although we all well know Angelina Jolie as the movie character for Lara Croft, the Oscar award winning Northern European actress Alicia Vikander does a pretty good job in depicting Lara in his forming experience, as she becomes the Tomb Raider. I first saw the movie in cinema when it was released, and now, on a second view, on DVD, I have the same feeling as I'm watching a nice-to-see action movie. The movie respects the game story and universe, especially the Tomb Raider game released in 2013, from which the plot story is inspired. It remains to see if a sequel comes at the same scale.

it was a pretty decent movie actually, I was pleasently surprised. I watched it yesterday night for the first time, not expecting much, considering earlier awful movie adaptations (*cough* Angelina Jolie's Tomb Raider *cough*) it was nice to see Lara resemble the more human-like character from 2013's great game, instead of this boring macho, unrealistic garbage featuring Angelina.

This lady is nothing like Lara Croft. Flat chested, flat rear not intimidating with guns.
I loved the video games, specially the last one Shadow of the tomb raider. I liked Angelina's movies as well (especially the first one).
This iteration is a disaster everywhere. I recommend to watch only if they pay you 20 bucks to do so. Any of the Resident evil movies is far better.

The best Tomb Raider movie and a good adaptation. They mainly used the well made and received 2013 video game reboot as template for the story. They also made deviations from that story and it surprisingly works well. I played ant enjoyed the game so I was pleased with the setting and surprisingly even more with the changes. It is the story of a young Lara Croft who starts her first adventure. Her father went missing some time ago and is declared dead. She is struggling to accept it and the fortune she will inherit. She believes that her father is alive and wants to find him on her own. I stop here with just the set up and only say that the story is engaging with good twist and menacing obstacles. I like what they created. Especially one menace you will easily know which makes this movie brilliant. For the actors they chose well. Alicia Vikander is excellent and was nominated for the Oscar for the Danish Girl. She delivers the role of a hero in the making or unpolished diamond. It is more grounded and I know that this is a hilarious remark for a video game adaptation but it is fitting here. Walton Goggins is a excellent adversary and shines in his scenes. Daniel Wu and Kristin Scott Thomas have smaller roles but do their best. The interactions are good but I think they could do better. The sets and visuals are really good. I like also the puzzles and obstacles they have to overcome. There are of cause some bad things. One plot twist is generic and out of touch or unbelievable. It harms the movie. Lara / Alicia cant shine as much as she should. She is hold back by the script. Also she makes a dumb move. If she inherited the fortune she would have solved many problems with ease and it changes nothing. A signature under a contract / testament is not the same as admitting your father is dead. At the end I will also praise the resolve and set up for a sequel. You want more and to see how it will continue. Overall a good video game adaptation with some flaws that prevent a 10/10 rating. It is still a really good movie and I just read that a sequel is on the way for 2021.

The early scenes of this film are cringe-inducing in the extreme: effortlessly cool Lara Croft reduced to a try-hard cool "millennial" with appalling taste in music. She even CHEATS in a for-money and on-the-streets bike race on the streets of London that would, in reality, have injured or killed several innocent bystanders. Not off to the most sympathetic of starts, for the character OR the movie (at least not in my book)! Fortunately, things pick up substantially after we leave the early urban environments, and in no time we're launched into a suitably rollicking Indiana Jones-esque adventure with the odd moment of iffy CGI. It's a very decent ride just the same - if more than a bit predictable - and probably about as good as the first Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movie, and slightly better than the second, so...a perfectly solid modern blockbuster, even if it's barely a patch on Raiders of the Lost Ark. (Hell: even the Brendan Fraser version of The Mummy ain't THAT good!)

Tomb Raider breaths new life into this video-game to film series giving another thrilling adventure with a younger and yet still strong, fantastic, and fearless portrayal of the titular character.

Boring derivative action movie, nothing special here girlies give it a miss. Why on Earth is Lara Amelia Croft delivering curries at the beginning when she is supposed to be rich. I don't want a poor Lara and neither should you. Absolutely no likable characters in the entire movie. Ridiculous plot that only really involves one mediocre tomb. I'm still upset we were robbed of an even worse sequel though heres to hoping ladies!

Making a good movie on the game is difficult, making a good movie on the 2013 Tomb Raider game is very difficult. The original source in quality was below average. Except in the film there is no third of what was in the game. Ultimately, the film slips into a parody altogether, in which it is unclear whether the film originally wanted to be shot as cheaper and easier as possible or whether the film is counted strictly on fans of the series. The main antagonist is devoted to less than 5 minutes of timing, the conflict is not revealed. Judging by the installation, the action of the film unfolds on a small island, where there is nothing except the tomb. And the end of the film, in which the hint of a sequel causes longing. Please, it is not necessary.

You know, by the picture of the moovie I guessed i won't like it because of actress she is too young and doesnt make me feel like it's Lara Croft. But I could not imagine the movie is a peace of ****, it's awful on every minute. Absence of logic, evthing is commonplace and you already know all the answers for stupid questions. Story is stupid and predictable. I dont mention it because if I start it will take all night long. Original Lara (Joly) is much better in 2001 and 2003 movies. 1 point i put for logic explanation why Lara start all the adventures while in Joly's Lara was stupid moment when father asks his daughter to prevent some clan to take control over world or smth (idont remember) it's stupid cause no one normal father would do that fate for his child. This is only plus in movie.

Awful copy game 2013, with the absence of any interesting characters. Despondent CGI.
It was attempt to write a story about the formation of Lara as Tob raider, but we got only female сharacter with zero charisma. Very sad because in game (3 after reboot already) we got some kind change to Lara which we all know ( powerfull, independent, intelligent)

I don’t even remember most of what happened in this movie. I forgot it even came out in 2018. It’s that forgettable. As far as video game adaptations go, this is fine. One of the better video game movies ever made, actually, but that’s not saying very much. I’d say just skip this one and stick with the games and the Angelina Jolie movies. They are technically worse films, but they are more fun and memorable.

This movie is unrealistic, but also fun to watch. The beginning was kind of boring and unfunny, unlike the rest of the movie. The middle was fun and entertaining and made me want to see what would happen next. The ending was unrealistic, but good. I recommend it.

Didn’t expect much from a game IP and film tie in like Tomb Raider. Ended up being a fun enough gritty action film in it's own right. More grounded and down to earth than the fantastical games. It did suffer from some predictability tropes and clichés. The main disconnect I never actually felt I was watching Lara Croft on screen. This film could of been about any random action hero looking for her dad and finding an unexpected adventure.

Dose anyone remember when this came out? Because I didn't until now. 'Tomb Raider' isn't a terrible movie, especially considering it's based on a video game which is usually poison with adaptions. However, film making wise it's pretty bland and looks like a Netflix movie at times. The dialogue is patchy with some laughable line delivery. The visual effects are terrible and painfully noticeable during action scenes. The villains are just whatever - the only thing worth mentioning is their bad facial hair. Honestly, Alicia Vikander is the saving grace, as I thought she was solid as Lara Croft, but shes too good for this movie.
