Greetings from Lithuania. Revisiting "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (1990) in 2026 of a newly released 4K UHD version by Arrow videos was a blast from the past. This film is a pure product from the late 80's, as it was released in 1990. It is fun and entertaining movie, purely on nostalgia factor it does work. There is a good energy throughout the film that never makes it a boring watch. The costumes, creature design are still looking pretty amazing even in 2026. Music is fantastic pop from the end of 80's. Overall, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" still rocks even after many years. Not a great movie by any means, but a fun and entertaining one. And what a surprise was to see young teen Sam Rockwell, a future Oscar winner among the young actors. A fun film, that is all what it is.

1990s childhood classic film. 35 years later, I'm still able to go to the movies to watch the movie magic that still holds up in quality.

This is a really weird one to analyze. Mostly inspired by the darker, moodier tone of Eastman & Laird’s original comic books, the turtles’ feature film debut also injects many of the sillier, mainstream-friendly elements of the Saturday morning cartoon. The two extremes don’t exactly meet in the middle, giving us strange juxtapositions like Michaelangelo cracking wise in a big fight scene while Raphael lies, bloodied and unconscious, a few feet away. Written for an audience that won’t ask many questions, it plays fast and loose with its plot points, like so many other spectacle-driven films of its era. Nothing holds up to scrutiny, even if we’re willing to give a pass to the five-foot reptiles’ well-traveled origin story. Seeing this in the theater, eleven-year-old me was disappointed by the sluggish second act, unnecessary romantic subplots and shadowy textures. Watching it as an adult, with twin eleven-year-olds of my own, I constantly rolled my eyes at the terrible jokes and smoke-and-mirrors fight scenes. A conservative estimate would put my groan average at twice per scene. It gets points for the surprisingly well-aged creature effects (great job on that, Jim Henson) and for trying to stay close to the spirit of the source material, but it’s awfully tough to look past the weak production values, cheesy action cut-aways and ham-tastic dialogue. My goodness, there’s a lot of bad dialogue.

The best Live action TMNT movie to date, ignore the ignorant Rotten Tomatoes critic consensus, totally not true. Shame we have not got another good live action reboot still, not because its hard but because studios keep hiring the wrong people.

Quiero suponer que no es tan mala como parece, si no fuera por el guion superficial y el humor, que es muy infantil. Dios bendiga la versión de 2023!

very Cheesy humor yet it still manages to maintain that gritty feeling from the original comics and while it's definitely aged in some areas I think its aged very well and is still a must watch for fans of the Series

Saw this in theaters in 1990 as a 9 year old, what a amazing experience! It managed to blend many elements of the tv and comic book series into its own unique recipe. Seeing it in a dark theater was a major factor, I wish they would replay older movies in theaters once in a while, I bet they would sell tickets.

If you want to get into the TMNT, but you think it's too childish or whatever, I recommend you start here. This is the best Ninja Turtles movie outing, by far! Again, this is a great entry point, and negative critic reviews are angry Karens who think it's "two dark" to be a kid's movie.

They don't make them like this anymore Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles definitely one of the gr8est movies of all time, growing up in the early 90s this was probably the first film I watched, every other turtles movie wishes it could be this good I would rate it higher if it was possible.

This movie was a really great blend of the cheesy humor of the cartoon and the gritty feel of the comics. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid and I still love it now.

Still a good movie for fans but it has a lot of nostalgia added to us older fossils;-). Back then TNMT was really exciting and a good part of our childhoods. There were the comics, toys and the TV series. When we heard of the movie we were hyped even when we did not know that the word existed back then (if it were even used back then). The movie has everything we hoped like good fights, great humor and an entertaining story that does justice to the characters. It is a bit closer to the comics than the TV series. Some scenes where transferred nearly 1 on 1 or closely to it. For the story: Reporter April O’Neil investigates her theory that a rise in crime is connected to a gang named Foot Clan. Now the story begins as during her investigations she will meet our heroes. The Turtles them self look O.K. They did not perfect the suits yet but are good for its time and budget. Master Splinter however is a positive exception. For the human actors we got an excellent April O’Neil with Judith Hoag, an intimidating Shredder with James Saito who I will praise and also an excellent Casey Jones with Elias Koteas. The fight scenes are good and I think they deserve a lot of praise because of the costumes making it a lot harder. I like also the style and humor. They got the right mixture. It is a film for fans and there are no mistakes here. Like always the critics did not like it but that was expected. Overall a great movie you can rewatch ones in a while. Would be rated lower I it came out today but back then it was more than satisfying for us. Maybe influenced by nostalgia.

An unpopular opinion of mine is that is is better then the original series. Mainly because this is more accurate to the 1984 comics, and that they don’t tell as many cheesy jokes. Also, the Turtles actually act like real life teenagers such as swearing and being distant to one another as what Raphael did in here. One thing I don’t get is why all the Turtles (expect Raphael) have Southern Californian accents despite being raised by a Japanese Rat in Manhattan. But it’s a fun movie. It’s not Oscar worthy, so don’t except it to be genius like other films from 1990.

Jim Henson's Creatures did a wonderful job adapting the Ninja Turtles. The film is a bit dark for kids but does a good job at creating a real life World containing these popular characters.

TMNT made the odd decision to go live-action and it freaking worked. It was incredibly entertaining and really brought these characters to life. It's a classic.
