The movie wants to be me. Let me get this straight: this is an adaptation of the musical, so slow down if you are going to consider this a remake, just like "Matilda". And this is not a case with "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory" since Tim Burton's version was just his own superior iteration. What I said when I said that ^"the movie wants to be me"^, it is because "Mean Girls" is a girly girl thing - as somebody who does some girly things, given pink is my favourite colour whilst I can still do gender neutral or even masculine things, this movie can be targeted towards me. Also, I actually love musicals since I live music & music/songs can give me captivating energy. "Mean Girls" does have problems, given that I have been met with people who disliked it. Listen, unless it was trying to be comedic, it might be so ungreat, it is laughable & I found the acting meh whenever there were songs. Do YOU think it was OK to have modern day items in this "Mean Girls" not from 2004? At least it had heart.

An nesacery remake, just with singing and dancing this time. The original is superior since it was a film that couples could watch. This one isn't fun for the boyfriends in the audience to sit through....

It's an OK movie. The story is just ok. Songs are decent. Lead actors did decent acting. It should be alright for a one time watch.

Happy 1 year anniversary mean girls review I love this movie so much it’s was funny fun I love everyone in this movie I love background actors there were fun funny usually in these types of movies don’t pay attention to background actors, but this movie made me pay attention to them because they were so fun and funny and expressive, and they were doing the most, but I love it but I love all the songs but I don’t like revenge party the song and the production designs for the whole movie for that scene for that song. I love the whole production design for the movie in the settings. I love all the outfits and costumes for this movie. Everyone’s hair was amazing and I love how the storyline changes the changes they make for this for this mean girls I loved it. It made more sense and it was more refreshing and creative and they had like good lighting an amazing choreography the most stand out to me René rapp my top 3 personal favorites that is on my playlist 3 meet the plastics 2 world burn 1 someone get hurts I love how Regina songs had a message she what she was singing in this mesmerizing siren seduction way to get people attention I love this version better than 2004 5 star 10 out 10 star 100 out 100 star

C’est une (jolie) nouvelle dinde qui débarque au bahut et se met à fréquenter les pires pétasses de la basse cour… sans oublier les autres abruties (ou abrutis) et autres ahuris du monde scolaire américain typiquement… américain ! C’est donc un concentré de bêtise avec une vague caricature (ou une tentative de satire encore plus vague et mollassonne) de ce petit monde résolument imbécile et très bête… et tellement nul… que ça met le film en concurrence avec un Police Academy ou… un American Pie ! C’est dire donc l’étendue des dégâts ici, la connerie endémique qui sévit, la niaiserie de l’ensemble également, l’ennui terrifiant que ça peut inspirer (et que ça inspire)… Non franchement, ce n’est pas regardable, ce n’est pas tenable plus d’un quart d’heure environ. Et encore ! quelle daube !!

I found Mean Girls a great musical with great actors. In particular, Auli'i Cravalho was incredible, as always. The songs are great but very different from the original musical version. Some parts are generally not favouring women and a little sexist, especially with weight. Overall: good, no swearing, no sex, underage drinking and kissing. Thats it!

Remakes are unnecessary in the first place. They should simply leave it alone. The acting is awful.

I'm so old that I remember going to see the original Mean Girls in theaters when it came out. I remember when the trailer was released and being excited before anyone had heard about the film. It was one of the funniest films, filled with great performances. It's what turned Lindsay Lohan into a star. So watching this musical remake was almost kind of soul-crushing. It's just terrible, period. You really see how talented the original stars were because 90% of the lines are the same but every single delivery of the new lines is awful. They all miss their mark. Everyone is miscast. The guy who plays Aaron Samuels seems less of a heartthrob and more of a weirdo. None of the songs are good. I don't know who this was made for or why anyone would watch this over the original.

Mean Girls (2024) is a fun film! I never thought I would enjoy a musical version of Mean Girls but here we are! While the music itself could have been better, the songs were still mostly enjoyable. The performances were for the most part great! One of the most impressive aspects of Mean Girls was the production.

I liked it. Good for people who like musicals. Enjoyable songs and very witty. Recommend. Will watch again to spot the jokes I missed.

I was nervous going into this film, luckily for me, Tina Fey just doesnt miss. I was lucky enough to have 2 great mean girls films in my lifetime. The choreography and set pieces on these musical pieces are definitely on point. With Janis's standout performance in "I'd rather be me" having a 1 take tracking shot for a majority of the song. Songs like revenge party with the cartoonlike school hallways sequences, "Somebody gets hurt" with its halloween themed song. Even Karen's song "Sexy" having a great dance choreography, starting off as a Tik Tok Short and working its way into a I complete tour of Aarons party with amazing tracking shots and dance choreography. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who has or hasn't seen the original.

I really didn't know that this is going to be more of a musical because I would have never rented it for $19.99. It's like too much of a musical and not really getting to the points and making it interesting of more drama and interacting and I'm disappointed

Mean girls (2024) This musical teen comedy is a modern musical reimagining of the 2004 film with the same title. Arriving two decades after the original, a lot of changes are obviously expected, and this remake embraces the changes of the times while paying homage to the beloved classic. Even with the changes at play here, this remake doesn't best the culturally impactful original or match it. The performances here are mostly standard but not memorable, watching this remake will make you appreciate the efforts of the original mean girls. The costumes aren't exciting. The jokes also lack punch either from their delivery or writing. The biggest difference between both versions is that this one is a musical. As a musical, not every musical number here lands successfully; the lyrics aren't impressive and some melodies are forgettable. Some of the songs are present just to remind audiences that this is a musical and don't necessarily move the story forward, though Renée Rapp's musical performances stand out as delightful highlights. Overall, this remake retains enough of the original movie's essence to make it worth watching, but the changes could have been more finely tuned to truly make it 'fetch'. 5/10

What a disappointment, the only saving grace was Renee, the entire cast is autotuned to hell and the instrumentation of the score is completely lackluster compared to the broadway cast recording arrangements

IN A NUTSHELL: It’s time for a musical remake of the 2004 movie Mean Girls! It has a modern facelift and is filled with music and laughs. Already, it has been nominated for Best Comedy movie by ****. Screenwriting credits go to Tina Fey, who also plays one of the teachers at the school, and produced the film with her ole boss and friend from Saturday Night Life, Lorne Michaels. The film was directed by Samantha Jayne. THINGS I LIKED: The talented and diverse, young cast includes Angourie Rice, Renee Rapp, Auli’I Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey, Avantika, and Bebe Wood. The adult cast includes some of our comedic talents like Tina Fey, Tim Meadows, Jon Hamm, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, and Ashley Park. There are some powerhouse voices in this cast! I especially enjoyed Auli’I Cravalho’s performance. The opening musical scene tells us this is a cautionary tale. I hope high school kids watch this and learn from it. Kudos to Jeff Richmond for his original music in the film. I like it when the students gather in the gym and finally recognize that they’re not just victims but also perpetrators of unkindness. In case you’re wondering about the cast from the original movie, we get a fun and cute cameo performance by Lindsay Lohan. One of her lines is “This has only happened once before.” Ha ha We see a lot of growth among quite a few characters. Some of the characters break the “4th wall” by talking directly at the audience to share important life lessons. Honestly, I don’t understand why people can’t just be nice to one another. As they say, hurt people hurt people. There is plenty of visual and spoken humor throughout. The movie definitely incorporates the viral nature of social media and how much harder it is to be a teenager nowadays because every mistake one makes is forever displayed for the world to see. Nostalgia will make this fun for parents to watch, while the new technology like social media will make it feel fresh for teens to watch. No matter how much the world changes, teens will experience these same lessons over and over through the decades. THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE: Sometimes you can’t always understand what everyone is singing. Sadly, I sure could relate to the teachers at the school who were so frustrated by the many students who simply didn’t care about learning. I’m a university professor and I see that apathetic attitude every day. Some of the lyrics to the songs were really mean. I cringe thinking that kids are going to be singing some of those songs .I’ve never seen the Broadplay musical, but I hear that this movie version of it changed quite a few things that might make fans of the stage production unhappy. Some of the camera shots were strange choices. TIPS FOR PARENTS: Profanity We see a lot of cleavage. We see a lot of teens in the LGBTQ+ community

I really wanted to like this, but it felt like watching a Gen Z Disney Channel made-for-tv musical movie. By Gen Z, I mean what boomers think Gen Z is...which is basically just everyone has phones, everyone is on social media, and a good chunk of the movie is in "snapchat" vertical format just to drive the point home. Most movies are made to be "timeless" but this movie will age poorly due to how it hits you over the head that these are Gen Z teenagers. I'm usually the one saying **** to people saying a movie is too PC or **** this is the first time I feel like I can't really fault someone for saying that (sans using a stupid word like "woke"). It's basically sanitized from both the original movie and musical to remove anything that might be **** references to body image are removed, some of the "crude" jokes from an originally PG-13 movie were removed, etc. There's also just a lot of character swaps, relationship swaps, Katy doesn't have a dad in the picture, Janice is actually a lesbian instead of just being called one, etc. Thy also changed the characters last names to have a last name that is more traditionally tied to their race which is **** an effort to make a more diverse cast, you're giving them stereotypical last names...ooook. Also it has to be said the marketing on this movie was very questionable. They decided to not call it Mean Girls: The Musical and hid that it was a musical in the several trailers. Apparently they don't understand that yes, people might not like **** they like cash-grab remakes even less and that's all it comes off as without the distinction that this is a movie adaptation of the Broadway musical. Speaking of which, like half the songs are missing, one was replaced with a new song, lyrics are changed to be less offensive or just more modern references, and they hired an actor that can't sing so all of Aaron's vocals are completely cut. There's also some songs that are cut short and the singing is basically just replaced with the spoken lines from the original movie instead...like word for word the original movie. It's like the movie can't decide if it actually wants to be a musical or a rehash of the original movie. The style of the new renditions of the songs are like those top 40 pop/adult-contemporary female artists that sing empowering "anthem" songs but you can never remember their names. The monotone unenthusiastic delivery of the main character doesn't help either. Renee Rapp is Regina George which is the one good choice to carry her over from the actual musical, but even she couldn't save this for me. This movie has nothing worthy of a second watch to me. I love the movie, I love the **** this just doesn't equal the sum of its parts.

A blast from start to finish, with the same spirit and message of the original, but with new jokes, amazing musical numbers, and more depth added to the characters.

Almost all of the new songs are bad, like annoying and un-catchy in the worst **** wondering why Janis was seeming like a such a more key character and realized after that she's played by Auli'i Cravalho, great voice

First of all, know what you're getting from this... 1) it's a full blown musical and 2) it's not a patch on the original (nor is it trying to be). The original is my all time favourite movie and it's become such a seminal film that there would have been zero point in a straight remake, but when I heard they were doing a movie of the musical adaptation I was really looking forward to it. And while it's clearly been done on a tight budget - it was meant to be a streaming exclusive after all - I had a really good time with this new take on it. The musical sections have been brilliantly done, more like big budget pop videos than anything else. The inclusion of social media has been done really well too. Of course there are some bits that fall short though - a lot of the bits that have been copied from the original script feel exactly like what they are, a made-for-TV imitation. The film works best when it does its own thing or reworks parts of the original, however a couple of the new jokes which should have been really funny are ran through so fast that a lot of the audience missed them. The songs come thick and fast which is good, but at times it comes at the expense of the plot, so things happen a little too quick and key plot points feel unearned. Cady seems to turn into a total **** within the space of 10 minutes. Renee Rapp is brilliant as Regina, and she makes the role her own, but doesn't get enough screen time to stand out as truly iconic. That said, Auli'i Cravalho and Avantika are great as Janis and Karen, and the famous bus accident has been woven into the script just nicely enough to still feel shocking when it happens. I don't blame them for releasing this theatrically, because the pop video aesthetics look great on a big screen - if I can see this in IMAX then I'll definitely be going to see it a second time. However I think it's insane that they never promoted it as a musical because that's literally the entire (and only) point of this new version - if you don't like musicals you'll hate it. A good few people walked out of the theatre halfway through for that reason. Overall, there is no way this is going to be held in as high regard as the original, but as I said to start with it's not really trying to be - this is more like a companion piece to the original film, made mostly for fans of the original who enjoy the high camp that musicals offer. So go with an open mind and you'll have a fun time!

A pointless remake. Despite trying to hide the fact it was a musical, word of mouth apparently warned away the audience. A bland cast and the same tired pandering we've come to expect make this inferior to the original.

I wasn't aware that this is an adaptation of the musical - probably should have been - and I almost walked out after the opening sequence. I'm glad I didn't because it's a fun film - just not all that ambitious.

Enquanto o primeiro "Meninas Malvadas" (Mean Girls), dirigido por Mark Waters, tem um ritmo estonteante e reflete muito bem a juventude da época (mesmo de forma caricata), a montagem do filme é responsável pela fluidez e pela mensagem que serviu muito bem para captar o espírito da época. Já este aqui, sobre com o ritmo, e nem falo tanto dos números musicais, além de ficar muito limitado ao original. Nesta nova produção, muita coisa permanece, como a protagonista que vem de um lugar distante (aqui brincam com a xenofobia numa boa sacada) e os personagens também se repetem, em especial, claro, o grupo das "mean girls" liderado pela Regina George. Mas se antes tínhamos nomes como Rachel McAdams ou Lindsay Lohan, por mais limitadas que fossem suas representações, aqui não sobra muita coisa, cabendo ao roteiro conferir certa dignidade ao material. O filme aborda questões comuns da adolescência, como popularidade, rivalidade, pressão social e a busca pela aceitação. Uma das principais críticas à juventude no filme é a maneira como os comportamentos tóxicos e competitivos das chamadas "abelhas rainhas", mas infelizmente esperava uma pegada mais moderna e com cara de século XXI. Foram poucas as atualizações do texto nesse sentido. Vale ressaltar que o filme é baseado no livro "Queen Bees and Wannabes" de Rosalind Wiseman, e a roteirista do primeiro filme, Tina Fey, embora não assine o roteiro, faz uma participação especial no longa. Contudo, infelizmente o filme se apega muito ao material original, e de forma pouco fluida, tendo que correr em alguns momentos para narrar a história. Veja as apresentações no show de final de ano, ficaram péssimas comparadas ao original. Mas não apenas isso. Havia um mundo de possibilidades a explorar, como por exemplo o das redes sociais (a piada com Spotify funciona, mas faltou muito mais). A exposição nas mídias ficou devendo. Assim, "Meninas Malvadas" ainda preserva o texto em tom de sátira, que utiliza humor para abordar questões sérias, e ao fazer isso, oferece uma crítica social às dinâmicas tóxicas e desafiadoras enfrentadas pelos jovens durante o ensino médio, mas que poderia ir muito além se tivesse sido lapidado a conferir uma nova identidade, mais atual. Do jeito que foi apresentado, pode até soar como homenagem ao original, mas apenas 20 anos depois, com atuações piores e cenas mais constrangedoras, torna-se um trabalho nada mais do que redundante, em que pese algumas cenas e tiradas divertidas (muito por conta do primeiro).

Tina Fey gives us a new Mean Girls movie that we didn't know we needed. This time around the casting has diversity and the musical component gives the movie a unique spin. It is hard to remake an iconic movie, but Tina gave us a new spin on why we loved the original movie.

The casting for mean girls was not good the girl they picked for cady did a horrible job and same with Karen and Gretchen and janice. Regina was the only person who did a good job in their role everyone else was horrible and the musical part ruined the movie and it felt very rushed throughout the whole story they missed a lot of the key parts of the mean girls movie if I hadn’t seen the original I would of been confused because they skipped just about every important thing.

This fresh and inventive take beautifully blends great callbacks from the original with the best of the Broadway musical. The updates are fresh and fun, and expertly showcase how high school kids experience the world through social media. The songs and choreography are a feast! So many great cameos and Easter eggs- don’t miss the one at the end of the credits! This movie is SO. MUCH. FUN. Great cast, great visuals, great message. Can’t wait to go again! My review? So fetch.

A perfect blend of the original film and Broadway musical, along with inventive visual elements and new jokes to create a worthy companion to both movie and musical. It is it's own thing. Most importantly, I smiled from ear to ear through the entire film and throughly enjoyed the ride. An incredibly talented cast backed by inventive filmmaking and choreography. There were so many visual jokes, I'll want to rewatch again and again. But the musical arrangements, colorful pop, and creative use of film styles and aspect ratios make this a wonderful cinematic experience. Dance, don't walk, to your nearest movie house.

For a musical, every song in it is forgettable. The acting is good, but the character development is flat. And I think the "mean" part in the film was nowhere to be found.

Why do they feel the need to remake a classic movie? This is an inferior remake in every way, shape, and form. Just watch the 2004 film.

I'm a fan of the musical since 2017/18 and I was so excited to see this movie. Than I crash my expectations. OMFG. This movie is aweful. They change all the arrangements, all the instrumentals, all the lyrics. (All the songs from broadway is way more better). Regina its not mean. She's just a ****. They took away all the fun of being mean. I think they're were scared about being "cancelled" when the point of the movie is about being mean. Cady and Karen can't sing. Aaron there's no beauty in that. This Regina is so f*cking f4t, at first she got eating disorder and practice body shaming with everyone, than she become fat, she suffers from body shaming. And they make Janis lesbian ??????? (this was the whole point of the original movie). This is not mean girls. This is Woke Girls for sure! I think I'm gonna pretend this movie never happend.
