MacGruber is a great comedy based on the SNL character MacGruber. All of the actors and actresses are excellently cast. Once the movie begins, you are met with consistent and relevant humour that keep you engaged throughout the movie. MacGruber and Vicki seem to be stuck in the late 80s early 90s throughout the movie, adding a bit of a time traveling feel to how they interact with the modern movie setting. Just like the rewatchable comedies like Tropic Thunder, Step Brothers, Idiocracy... MacGruber is a movie I will watch a few times a year. I would consider this a parody movie but unlike a lot of parodies of this era, it never crossed into the cheesey overly silly area to get cheap laughs. Come into the movie expecting a goofy parody on the classic rogue cop formula. This is an excellent comedy for adults that want to relive the 90s a bit while also laughing a lot.

Ordinary comedy at best.
The schtick fears thin pretty quickly and with it so do the jokes.

MacGruber is your typical moderately successfully Saturday Night Live sketch that gets turned into a predictable big budget Hollywood movie. Its really cliche, and a lot of the movie is lazy and unfunny. However, there are a few scenes that are actually so hysterically funny that I laughed out loud. There are worse ways to waste your time.

As an Englishman my only experiences with SNL as a broadcast show, is from the late 1980's when certain skits were sort of packaged up and shown on television as part of a late night American comedy compilation show. This is also how I now enjoy the show, as all I can access are the skits that the 'Network' upload onto YouTube, it's effectively the same.... But I can now access them at will, and find out who the comedians on the show are. I knew that The Blues Brothers, and Wayne's World were based on SNL characters, but I didn't know Coneheads was, such was my lack of knowledge about the (now) evergreen show. Macgruber was a skit I found on YT and found relatively amusing (this despite the fact only the first series of the show it was parodying, 'McGyver', was shown on UK TV), and when I discovered a movie had been made I downloaded a copy and got stuck in. It's also worth making a point that the film barely got a cinema release here, and no one I know has ever heard of it! The film itself expands on the short skits of the series, introducing MacGruber (Will Forte) 10 years after his wife was killed and living a secluded life (a la Rambo III). He's called back into action after a Nuclear missile is stolen by his arch-nemesis **** (Val Kilmer), and therefore looks to bring back his old team. However, they are all killed (due to their ineptitude) leaving MacGruber to go after **** with only his dead wife's best friend (and retired special forces operative), Vicki St. Elmo (Kristen Wiig), and wet-behind-the-ears operative Dixon Piper (Ryan Phillippe) Cue comedic shenanigans as our heroes bumble their way through the movie, as the villain hams it up in a very unamusing way. This is a sporadically funny movie, but it's not as funny as other films which have spoofed the same kind of genre in the past. Will Forte is probably the only actor who comes out of it with any sense of pride attached, everyone else (including Powers Boothe as 'The Colonel') probably won't mind anyone asking them 'what on Earth were you thinking!!??'. Overall it's competently directed, the score is acceptable, and the run-time (at 90ish minutes) is bang on. It's just not as funny as people claim it to be, especially as its now (apparently) established a cult following!!!

So MacGruber is funny, well acted, well made and action packed. Will Forte is playing MacGruber perfectly and Val Kilmer played his role really well.Even though the end was over the top and some scenes (a lot of them actually) were unbelievable, the movie is still funny and **** only thing that I absolutely hated was the CGI blood.

Macgruber, for me, is one of the greatest comedies of the 21st century. Of course, it's not for everyone, but one thing is for sure – you haven't seen anything like it. Can't wait for Macgruber 2!

Some people may see it as a guilty pleasure but I wouldn't consider MacGruber that. It tries so hard to be funny and it can't even do that. I don't think Will Forte's humour is for everyone so that is hy I didn't care for it. The misfired jokes are almost non-stop and it gets to be so lame. Val Kilmer definitely the best part of this movie playing the villain. MacGruber is nothing more than another failed Saturday Night Live film that boasts a fairly funny cast but Will Forte uses up all the screen time trying to toot his own horn.

**** amazing, gold. Immature, yes. But hey we all need a bit of it. Sex scenes with ghosts, couldn't ask for much more. Oh wait, yes there was more, including an 'A-team" being blown to pieces by home made dynamite

I didn't have high expectations when going into this movie. I remember enjoying the Macgyver TV show as a kid. I also enjoyed the MacGruber skits on SNL. This was a really silly movie as is to be expected. The movie had some good laughs in it, that's all I really expect from a silly parody film. Was it one of the best comedies I've ever seen? -- no. Was it decently funny and entertaining? - - yes.

All you Hipster homos that bash movies like this really need to learn how to let go and laugh. This movie was hilarious! It's nothing like the SNL skit, so anyone using that connection didn't actually watch it. Probably the funniest movie since the greatest of them all: Tommy Boy.

Some people hate it, some people love it. Macgruber is a kind of movie which has such immature and idiotic humor cause it to be a large success. Going into this, i thought it was going to ****, i came out realizing how wrong i had been. Iv'e seen Macgruber 4 times and i still laugh at the jokes

It's funny that Hollywood keeps trying to make SNL skits into movies. News flash: it doesn't work. Another news flash: there are only so many f-bombs one can drop, so many sex-jokes one can make, so many completely overpowered explosions one can show, before they stop being funny and just start being stupid.

Silly, juvenile, **** absolutely brilliant. How could anyone have expected more from a full-length version of a MacGruber skit?? It is a silly SNL skit, for God's sake! Gratuitous in language, violence and 80's references, the only reason not to like this movie is if you thought they shouldn't have made a movie version of it. Deal with it. They made it. And if you were a fan of the skit, I cannot imagine why you wouldn't have loved the film.

I was honestly stunned at how bad this movie was, considering how funny the SNL cast members are in general. This was one of the worst comedies I've seen in a long time, I'd place it in the same group as those horrible _____ Movie. Yes, that bad. I laughed maybe twice in the entire movie.

Just if you have not better to do in a rainy Sunday afternoon... Few laughs, tries to have the essence of Tropic Thunder but fails. Best parts are the car stereos one

I heard this movie **** when it was out in theaters but when I saw it it exceeded my expectations. I personally thought it was funny as hell. You're either gonna really like this movie, or you have a whack sense of humor and you're gonna think it's one of the stupidest films ever.

This movie so terrible that I couldn't stand of this character is acting like a jerk, jackass, and ****! This is the worst spinoff that it's based on the SNL and it's nothing interesting about him. I couldn't even laugh this movie to the beginning and to the end. The jokes are so lame, the characters are so stupid, the story is a mess, the plot makes no sense about the character and they couldn't explain about him,it's just a based on the the character that he did shorts in SNL that's all they got. And how so STUPID that this movie is completely dumb that the viewers are enjoying this movie that is nothing to offer! Those viewers are idiots and that's fine like that! The critics are SO STUPID! Hey viewers,SHUT THE F@#$K UP,NO ONE CARES ABOUT HOW YOUR REVIEWING ARE,GO ENJOY IN THE WATER SLIDE FOR STUPID MOVIE!

The jokes are entirely hit or miss, but the misses are far less frequent. Forte and Wiig are predictably daft and hilarious, but Phillippe surprises with comedic chops not really seen before. It is over-the-top, incredibly silly, and mostly hilarious. And I laughed every time "Von ****" was spoken.

This movie is simply junk. For the millions they spent making this, couldn't the producers get a decent script, some funny jokes? And they wonder why movie studios are losing money.

how do you take a mildley funny 3 min sketch from SNL and make it into a 90 min movie for the big screen? the answer is you dont . atleast not a very funny one. macgruber in its sketch form is kinda funny with the way they poke fun of mcguyver and him getting blown up at the end of every sketch and the funny song but as a movie it shoulda never been done. the humor in this movie is so childish its rediculas . if you are in the age of 10-16 you might find this funny. i found most of it unfunny. there was a couple of funny moments where i had a good laugh but most of it was just to stupid and just had me shaking my head in disbelief that some thing could be this stupid.

I just love this movie. Even though the newer cast of SNL isn't as good as the mid 90's to early 00's were. Still this movie makes me laugh. If you love mindless comedy and laugh, almost, at anything - you'll love this Don't go see this movie if you like to watch some crappy movie about a little boy who plays piano and want's to be a ballet dancer. Go home and **** your thumb.

Consistently idiotic (that's a plus here), very rude and timely given this year's flood of 80s style dumb action movies but only sporadically funny. Kristen Wiig is great as always and the love/sex scene is worth the price of admission alone. If you like action cliches spoofs, general silliness and have 95 minutes to waste... you'll probably have some fun.
