With its non-branching storyline and no multiplayer, Force Unleashed is certainly less ambitious than the classic "Jedi Knight" games - and ultimately, its design makes it feel more videogame-y and less of an all-engrossing Star Wars experience than Xbox entries like "Jedi Knight II" or "Jedi Academy." But when the game is on, it's on. [Oct 2008, p.70]
Make no mistake: you can have a lot of fun with The Force Unleashed. [Oct 2008, p.88]

By even allowing the choice between simple hack-and-slash gameplay and the more complex mix-up combos, LucusArrts has ensured that many will never view the title’s full potential. [Oct 2008, p.104]

Pretty mediocre game I beat in just three and a half hours. Starkiller has some sauce and overall the game screams 00s energy, but the overly simplistic and repetitive combat, buggy bossfights and repeated planets (the zones are different but enemies and assets are mostly the same) make it no more than a ok-ish experience that probably felt like plain robbery to those who paid full price for it. If you are looking a good jedi game just go with Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

THE BEST STAR WARS GAME! Even though it’s not canon within the Star Wars universe, it’s still an absolute banger that really shows just how powerful a Jedi/Sith can be. You genuinely feel powerful playing it—and that’s exactly the point. Starkiller is such a badass character, and the DLCs are awesome. They bring some really cool ‘What If...’ scenarios, like if he had survived (both on the dark side and as a Jedi).

The Force Unleashed is simply the best thing to happen to the Star Wars franchise in decades.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed takes the use of the force to a new level. Sometimes all the overpowering abilities can make the game feel a bit too easy, but luckily the balance is usually well preserved. It would've been fun to see a bit more lightsaber action, but Force Unleashed is still entertainingly fast and furious ride where you finally get to do something real with force. Throwing stormtroopers to chasms with force grip just never gets old. [Sept 2008]

Although Force Unleashed does deserve your money to a certain extent, be aware that your patience for technical and design issues will be tested.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a decent enough effort and will be more appreciated by the fans of the saga.

The more you appreciate Star Wars in general the more you’ll get from this occasionally inspiring run-and-slasher. True, the touted technology is never really used to do more than put on a fine electric show, but what a show it is. But as for Anti-Force Fields? Well, they’re one way of making Jedi and Sith characters somewhat redundant, and just one example of how Force Unleashed goes against 30 years of lore in order to shoehorn a game together.

Being let loose with the Force and given some spectacular scenarios to work with makes for an excellent game in premise, but LucasArts just haven't nailed the basics. Disappointment of the year? Quite possibly.

The concepts are solid, the story is excellent, and the characters sustain. Aesthetically it is a beautiful piece of work. It's just not all that much fun to play, especially when bugs have left parts of the game incomplete.

"The Force Unleashed" is a fun action game that's not as good as it could've been. Unfortunately, some of the level design is not very inspired. And the boss fights can be very clunky. The lengthy load times are also a disappointment. Overall, there are better hack 'n slash titles like "Ninja Gaiden 2" and "Devil May Cry 4". But still, fans of the original "Star Wars" trilogy will enjoy this despite its many flaws. I would rate "Unleashed" with a 7.3 out of 10.

Very overrated. The raw brutal Ed of the game is a maxing but it just seems of off and I didn’t have fun playing it- however the graphics still hold up and looks amazing

Easily among the worst games I've ever played. I owned the Wii version back in the day. It was pretty much my favorite game and I must have played it around 12 times from front to back. Revisiting the Xbox-360 version now, I realise how incredibly bad it is. Mind you, the Wii and 360 versions are basically different games. The story is the same but gameplay, level design and pretty much everything else is different. This version is borderline unplayable. Sure, there are cool things present, but it feels more like an unpolished, unbalanced technical demo than anything else. Disney obviously doesn't give a f#ck about this property (it never was canon), but I hope that one day there will be a remake. There is a lot of potential, but as a game, there is barely anything of quality to be found here. Although, credit where credit is due: I don't like quick time events, but this game has one of the best QTE-implementations I've ever seen

SummaryStar Wars: The Force Unleashed casts players as Darth Vader's "Secret Apprentice" and promises to unveil new revelations about the Star Wars galaxy. The expansive story, created under direction from George Lucas, is set during the largely unexplored era between "Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith" and "Star Wars: Episode IV A New...
