Soul Sacrifice is a heavy action-rpg with a great moral choice system. Even if the camera controls are poor and there are a few graphical quirks the developer Marvelous AQL delivers an awesome game with lots of replayability. If you own a PS Vita you owe yourself to play this game.

The gameplay is smooth and every spell is designed to be both cool and useful. The environments are well crafted, ranging from icy plains mired with huge chains to forests filled with bizarre trees covered in throbbing blood veins. [June 2013, p.88]

Soul Sacrifice isn’t the deepest Action-RPG out there, but it’s certainly one of the most interesting, and it feels right at home on PS Vita. [July 2013, p78]

I have a love/hate relationship with this game. I do however feel that it's mostly style over substance. The devs put a lot of investment into the presentation of the game and not enough into the controls and the gameplay. The plot, graphics, voice acting and soundtrack are fantastic. However the gameplay is lacking and can be frustrating. I've played god eater 1 & 2, Toukiden, ragnarok odyssey and freedom wars on the Vita and would recommend all of them over this game. Summoning weapons is frustrating as they always seam to break as you're attacking an enemy. Control response time is slow, I found myself clicking on dodge but the character would fail to action it on time, friendly fire is incredibly annoying in this game and can't be turned off. The partner AI is terrible. I can't state how annoying it is when you get an enemy in a weakened state only to have an AI character start spamming a move that hits you and stops you from attacking the enemy. Some examples where the boulder move and explosive fire spells that hit a wide area. If it wasn't for the great plot and solid voice acting (more games should use this voice acting studio) I would have happily quit it for good before finishing it. That said there are parts where the gameplay just clicks and you get really good with the game. Unfortunately that's at about 20-40 hours into it and I honestly don't think that a game should require that before it gets fun.

Fácilmente el mejor juego del sistema, con gran gameplay estilo MH, una muy buena ambientación, y con unos personajes e historia excelentes. 7/10

I don't have a ton of time to play games. I mainly play my vita on my bus ride to work / school. This is one of those games that I can sit on the couch and play for hours, or a good burst of 20 minutes on the bus. It's really exciting engaging gameplay. The story is pretty deep. It's at least riveting. The last boss was a %@%^ to fight, but really wicked fun. I've heard Soul Sacrifice Delta is the way to go even if you're getting the game for the first time, there are more items and the game is a bit more polished. For some reason I thought it was like an entirely different game. It sounds more like an expansion. I don't love the game enough to buy an expansion. Maybe if I got into the online gameplay --- maybe. Totally worth the money. It's a great game. I would probably just buy Delta if I could do it again. My wife likes to watch me play it. The soundtrack is good. One thing I also REALLY liked was that it has this darker deeper element. I was getting a bit annoyed by the juvenile styling of many of the games that come out. This feels like a more mature title. Really well done. If you're thinking about Freedom wars or Soul Sacrifice hands down go with Soul Sacrifice.

Anyone who enjoys Monster Hunter, and even folks who don’t, will find a game that offers up a lot of fun both off and online.

One of my favorites on the Vita, the game is phenomenal. Soul Sacrifice has: addictive and challenging gameplay, a good story and concept, and two paths to choose from. What I mean by that is if you choose to save or sacrifice a being. It's simple, saving will increase your life level, it will increase your defense and recovery, not HP though. OR, you can sacrifice, which will raise your magic level, increases attack damage. You can choose one or both. The game starts off easy, but a little while later, the game will punch your face. lol. If you're into Monster Hunter and/or like 3rd person action games, Then I really suggest and recommend you get this game if you have a Vita. Countless hours poured into the game. BUT, I suggest you get SS Delta instead, it's the same game, but with more content.

First game on my vita it exceeded my expectations. Everything in this game just blends together, the control mechanics the atmosphere. It may be repetitive but it's also rewarding. Lots of skills to use and the story was great with a superb music to boot highly recommended

Soul Sacrifice has a soul of a complete traditional Japanese video game. Do not be looking for an RPG along with exploring its world - small arenas, a branched and huge character's specialization system, and mainly the addicting gameplay are the king here.

Like any great action RPG, the game is about tuning a character build, and shepherding it through increasingly difficult variations of the same things you’ve been doing all along, with friends, strangers, or an AI along for the ride. But unlike many such games, it’s got one hell of a story, insidiously barbed gameplay hooks, and the sort of infinite lifespan that makes your Vita worth the money you spent.

Soul Sacrifice straddles the line between delivering the depth typically found on console and the on-off-on-again routine of handheld gaming, and the result is something that will likely please Vita owners hungry for a quality, grind-heavy RPG.

A unique RPG with charming art direction and very interesting combat and story that suffers from intense repetition of its missions.

Although there are some interesting ideas here and the Vita could benefit from a title like Soul Sacrifice, everything rides on how good the core game is, and to me, it just doesn't hold up.

What. A. Game! Impressive and touchy story that will grow on you, better than any book or movie I've read or seen, ever. Awesome gameplay, fun multiplayer, jaw-dropping graphics all of that accompanied with a beautiful musical score. My top favorite game on Vita, hands down. If you don't have a PS Vita yet, please do yourself a favor and get one WITH this masterpiece of game. Really, what a game...

I really enjoyed my time with Soul Sacrifice. The game play was enjoyable and the customization kept me coming back. The initial 2-3 hours of playing, I was extremely lost and frustrated with the game. Once I realized what I was doing it was easy to get **** in. The gameplay is perfect for the Vita - quick enemy engagements that last 5-10 minutes. Figuring out how to beat easy archfiend in different ways made the game enjoyable and kept it fresh. The game play loop did start to get repetitive to me and because I had no interest in the story I felt like the last 3-5 hours were a bit ****. Overall - I'd recommend this to anyone with the platform.

I tried liking this game but i couldn't. The story felt below par, voice acting was so-so but the mechanics of this game was really poor, changing weapons/spells takes to long and you are more then likely to have your enemies score a free hit on you as punishment, and it's not often you come across a more repetitive game, not only are the monsters/creeps very often the same, but the maps you play on don't seem to have a very good range of variety either. But this game actually has something going for it, and it is it's looks. It actually looks pretty good for being an early VITA release.

On the positive side, the graphics look nice and the enemies are extremely creative. However I can't seem to get into this game, it's just not that fun. The weapon (or spell) system is horrible. You basically have to guess when your spell is going to run out as you're spamming attacks on an enemy, because very likely you'll end up casting it again when you didn't mean to, and you REALLY want to conserve your magic in this because you run out fast and the bosses take for-freaking-ever to kill. Enemies, and even your own friends will be knocking you around like a ragdoll the whole game, in a game where you have to stand still and charge up to do pretty much anything. The locations look pretty nice but again, it's boring and void of depth. I mean that literally, every mission just spawns you into a big flat arena to fight enemies, and that's it. Already bored to death of it and I've only put around 7 or 8 hours into it.
SummarySoul Sacrifice is a brutal combat experience where every decision made will have consequential results.
