The potent combination of Sonic and Shadow Generations makes a strong case for being the best package of 3D Sonic content we’ve ever seen.
Shadow x Sonic Generations combines nostalgic stages with fresh gameplay, allowing players to experience perspectives of both Sonic and Shadow in a single package. With stunning visuals, energetic music, and dynamic level design, it’s a thrilling ride for fans. While the campaign is short and some of the boss fights lack creativity, it remains a standout title in the franchise.
Sonic X Shadow Generations experience can be summarized as follows: If you've never played Sonic Generations, this is undoubtedly a great opportunity to try it out, as it was and remains great even after the remastered version. As for Shadow Generations, while it's a definitely cute game that manages to renew and restore Shadow to its greatness, if you don't need the content provided with Sonic Generations, you won't necessarily find the investment in this game to be good and satisfying - and I'm sure Sega understood this when it decided to include it in another great and beloved game of the brand.

Sonic generations remaster was very underwhelming. There was no lip sync and the graphics looked like they hadnt been updated at all

Finally, a game that understands that speed isn't just about holding down a button—it’s about the flow, the verticality, and the sheer attitude that defined the best era of the franchise. Sonic X Shadow Generations is the definitive proof that you don't need to reinvent the wheel with boring, slow-paced gimmicks when you have a core loop this satisfying. Bringing back the legendary level design of the original Generations was already a win, but the addition of the "Shadow Generations" campaign is what elevates this into a genuine masterpiece of modern **** contrast between the two playstyles is what makes this package so addictive. While Sonic is all about that classic, high-speed optimization and finding the perfect line through a colorful environment, Shadow’s stages feel like a darker, more aggressive evolution of the formula. The "Doom Powers" aren't just flashy additions; they fundamentally change how you interact with the world, turning the environment itself into a weapon or a shortcut. Surfing through chaotic, warped landscapes or freezing time to navigate a collapsing structure feels incredibly rewarding because it requires actual timing and precision, not just mindless "meditative" interaction.Visually and sonically, this is the peak of the series. The remastered stages look absolutely stunning on modern hardware, with lighting and textures that make the iconic locations feel more alive than ever. And the soundtrack? It’s a relentless barrage of high-energy remixes and original tracks that perfectly capture that "edge" the competition is too afraid to touch. It’s a polished, content-heavy celebration of the ultimate lifeform that respects the player’s intelligence and reflexes. This is how you honor a legacy while pushing the mechanics forward into something that feels fresh, fast, and undeniably cool.

Even in a post-Astro Bot world, Sonic X Shadow Generations serves as an epic reminder of how untouchable both Sonic and Sega can be when they're firing on all cylinders, and its treasure trove of content and top-notch presentation make it an easy recommendation, regardless of it not being a blemish-free experience.

By offering this formula of two games in one, SEGA offers a great locomotive for the third film which will be released next December. True to itself, the excellent Sonic Generations has lost none of its brilliance, even if the new features are too light to be sufficiently striking in the minds. What Chao to find in the levels, rare new bonuses... we could have expected much more from a remaster. Fortunately, the part dedicated to Shadow is intended to be more ambitious, with a mini open world to explore and powers that boost the experience for several additional hours of play. Without being revolutionary, Sonic x Shadow Generations is a very good game, but which will, inevitably, have more impact on those who have never touched the original.

Overall, Sonic X Shadow Generations is a game that offers two distinct experiences. On the one hand, Shadow's campaign brings something new and exciting to the table, with never-before-seen abilities and a darker, more strategic approach. On the other hand, the remaster of Sonic Generations does its job of reviving nostalgia, albeit without too many surprises.

At its core, this is still Sonic Generations, so I can’t say I had a bad time playing it, and if you’ve never played it before then I’d absolutely recommend picking this up. However, if you already own Sonic Generations – which I’m willing to bet most people interested in this game do – then I certainly wouldn’t be willing to pay $50 for a handful of new levels that are okay at best.

Play this game on an OLED TV it’s epic. The visuals really pop, the soundtrack is absolutely dope, and the sense of speed feels amazing. This is a must play for any Sonic fan. It also runs perfectly on the Switch 2, with smooth performance and no issues. Highly recommended.

Maybe Sonic Generations just isn't for me, I wanted to try this because I like platform games and I saw good reviews for this game but I find the level design and gameplay confusing, it's often very unclear where you're supposed to go, what you're supposed to do or how to interact with certain obstacles/items so you have to go through a ton of trial and error to progress which is not fun in my opinion. Also the controls feel somewhat unresponsive at times for such a fast paced game. I had more fun playing the pinball machine in the game than anything else really. The visuals are nice but the gameplay is just a chore to deal with. The Shadow campaign on the other hand is excellent! After pushing through the mediocre Sonic campaign Shadow was a revelation, improved in every way!

I’m more a fan of the old school Sonic’s and despite attempting to combine them this game is not very fun. The controls are awed and modern sonic you always come to screeching halt. Old school sonic is the worse as it plays nothing like yo old school sonic momentum. So the first three levels are decent but then rest of the game drags and I could care less about the story.a lot of the “challenges” are pretty dumb (hitting an eight note tennis match with vector what the hell is this?) and not fun. As for the shadow part, I played two levels and that’s it. Overall, this is not the comebackI keep hearing of. Sonic mania would be that sega should take bite and at this point between this and the abysmal sonic frontiers, I pretty much can assume sega will never get this right.

In Sonic Generations: no life meter, pointless drop dash, bland dialogue, wrenching English voice acting, and a bad final boss. In Shadow Generations: cringe-worthy character abilities, the level controls are tight and clumsy, and also the final boss is a complete disappointment. The graphics and music, like any other Sonic game, are good, but they're average. 4,5/10. This compilation doesn't deserve any more than that.
