Outbound is exactly the type of game you play after a long day at work and get your energy back, like your eco-friendly car. You don't have to worry about danger and you enjoy relaxation and well-being while playing. The game will also surprise you with its extensive possibilities for crafting, exploring and building your mobile base.

For the most part this is a cosy laid back game. There’s no real threat in it (you can get injured but even falling from a decent height is unlikely to kill you… you have to try really hard to do any real damage). I love the idea of being able to use renewable resources, sun, wind, rain etc. The recycling mechanic could have been better implemented and fast travel would be a welcome addition… but overall it’s a decent bit of fun and you can even adopt a dog (though once you do… it’s with you for the rest of the game… even if you tell it to stay somewhere, it will inevitably end up by your side again). Good for those who like gentle gaming.

Outbound is an easy-going survival game that puts risk-free exploration above all else. Its core gameplay loop is satisfying enough to keep you and a friend or three hooked for a couple of hours, but the lack of variety and ultimate purpose wears thin beyond that. Of course, the same can be said about many a cozy game, but the best examples always make the process immensely satisfying. Outbound is still a refreshing antidote to a fast-paced world, but barring any additional content updates, this might be one road trip you’ll want to cut short.

I'll just get the negatives out of the way. First, due to many locations having just been abandoned, it makes the game feel a bit apocalyptic, like everyone just up and left without a care in the world, leaving projects unfinished and campsites unkempt. Not to mention the lack of other people, and the only other creatures being dogs, birds, rabbits, and butterflies, also makes it feel very unlively. I get there's a festival going on and everyone went to it, but there are people in the world who just don't enjoy that kind of atmosphere and would rather stay home, or they simply just don't want to go. Then there's the fact the whole game is based on driving a vehicle around, and the lack of a radio makes it way too quiet, especially when the in-game music cuts out for very long minutes at a time. All that being said, I understand projects being left undone gives the player something else to do besides just drive around and explore, and honestly I feel there needs to be more. However, more people being around would make it feel like everything wasn't just abandoned, and that every project left undone and up to the player to finish for them. Despite all that, it's a game based on just enjoying the views, being one with nature, and just relaxing. It's not meant to be a game that keeps the player on edge and expecting twists and turns like most other survival games do. It's a game that gives the player a sense of calmness and peace without too much stress of running out of supplies, and the fear of making the wrong move and being killed by some random monster or trap. Supplies are aplenty and respawn daily, and the only fear of death is starving or possibly falling, both of which are easily avoidable. The only pain in the butt is having to go all the way back to get map specific items, but that's also part of the charm as it gives you more time to just chill and enjoy the drive, stopping to grab other things you need along the way. I look forward to seeing this game become more, and hope future updates add more areas and more things to do, such as fishing. With all the water around, and with it being a survival game, fishing should definitely be implemented as it is a survival aspect, and this is coming from someone who doesn't enjoy fishing at all, even in video games LoL. All in all, it's very enjoyable and relaxing, and with a little more work it has a lot of potential to become a top tier survival game, and I look forward to hopefully seeing plenty of updates.

I think this game is great it aims to just be a super chill place to relax and discover, I find the world the best pretty and relaxing, easy to loose time in this game does need some frame pacing work on the switch 2 but overall I really enjoy the game it's more a solid 7/10 but with the extra patches and hopefully a good later game depth it is pushing an 8 solid effort good value experience for only £17.99

This cozy masterpiece redefines survival through a brilliant modular construction system and a breathtaking, stress-free atmosphere. It transforms vehicle customization into a therapeutic journey, although solo players may struggle with imbalanced resource gathering. Despite this pacing issue, the stunning visuals and rewarding technological progression create an essential, tranquil refuge.

A cozy exploration game that delivers exactly what it promises, blending relaxing camper travel with light base-building and rewarding exploration. While inventory limits and collectibles can feel a bit restrictive or grindy, they never take away from the overall chill experience. Outbound is a soothing road trip that lets you truly unwind behind the wheel.

Outbound is a cozy exploration game that does well on its basics—exploration, crafting, building—but fails to really keep the magic and entertainment after a few hours due to its taxing gameplay loop that feels like it rewards so little for so much effort. Nevertheless, the game is fun in its own right, although more improvements and changes would make it even more enjoyable for a wider audience.

Outbound is a game with a sincere execution, but one that doesn't fully follow through on its ideas. By playing it safe to avoid gameplay that might be too demanding for players, it misses out on a potential that could have made it a true must-have in the cozy gaming scene. Still, it remains a contemplative pleasure for lovers of virtual exploration… one you’ll play through from start to finish before tucking it away in the back of your collection, unsure if you’ll ever pull it out again to relive the same journey.

Despite its appealing premise and relaxing facade, Outbound struggles to justify the time (and price) it demands. The slow pacing, repetitive resource gathering, lifeless world design, and lack of meaningful progression drain the experience of excitement as well as comfort. The campervan customisation and eco-friendly concept attached show promise, yet the gameplay loop quickly turns into a mind-numbing chore rather than a therapeutic past time.

Outbound had the potential to be one of the biggest hits of the year, but a gameplay loop that hinders more than it invites, a purposeless open world, and endlessly repetitive objectives make this so-called cozy camping sim anything but relaxing.

Honest within its premise! Relaxing... it makes you just explore the world, wanting to leave your "Mobile House" the way you want! You can't demand high challenges from a game whose purpose is different... Just play and relax!

I was surprised by the price, considering the game is on par with a doujin title.I’m not quite sure what the developers hope players will enjoy about this game.I never imagined we’d have to download “blueprints” on-site and then scavenge for materials to build things.
This is like a homeless simulator

I was really hyped for this game, but honestly it feels unfinished and painfully empty. The driving is decent and the game is easy to learn, but that’s about where the positives end. The map is small, exploration is boring, and the gameplay loop becomes repetitive almost immediately. Resource gathering is an absolute grind just to build the most basic stuff, and the “sandbox” aspect feels fake because invisible barriers constantly stop you from experimenting or exploring freely.
After only a few hours, I had basically seen everything the game had to offer. For the amount of content here, the price is ridiculous. Overall, it feels more like an early access tech demo than a full game.

I have to give this a 1 score because of the way the Kickstarter campaign was handled and the game itself is just boring. What is supposed to be a very chill and relaxing game quickly becomes anything but that. Instead, it becomes a resource-collecting game. There's nothing besides collecting junk, crafting machines, and downloading blueprints. You can build but it's more to stop the hunger bar that never really depletes from going down. Once you play around an hour, you'll realize that you'll be repeating this throughout what I assume is the entire game. Also about the Kickstarter campaign. I supported this project, but as the game's release date drew near, I saw content creators gain early access to the entire game. It feels unfair to watch people stream a game you helped fund while you are denied access, even a few days in advance. I know this is done for marketing. But they failed to deliver keys prior to the official launch, which exacerbated the situation. As evidenced by the irate Kickstarter comments, I and many other backers were stuck waiting for our codes while new players on Steam were already making purchases and playing.
On top of that, the original backing price ended up higher than the discounted launch price, and the Day One school bus DLC was not included for backers. This kind of anti-consumer treatment from a small indie team is extremely **** also the devs are begging people on Steam to change the negative review. Pirate this game. It's not worth supporting these devs.
SummaryOutbound is an open-world exploration game set in a utopian near future. Start with an empty camper van and turn it into the home of your dreams - alone or together with your friends. Build and explore at your own pace. Scavenge materials, craft, and build in and on top of your vehicle with modular parts. Advance in technology and ef... Read More
