Lost Soul Aside delivers a visually impressive action experience with deep combat mechanics that improve as the game progresses, although its story is clichéd and the gameplay can feel inconsistent at times; while the game is ambitious for a small studio and offers engaging boss fights, some generic enemies, awkward camera, and minor technical issues hold it back from reaching its full potential.
The saddest thing about Lost Soul Aside is not the final product as a game, but the individual elements that show how the game could have been better with more focus and polish. Making games is tough, and after ten years of wait, this one proves it.
Lost Soul Aside is a linear action RPG that began as a solo project and finally arrived after nearly a decade. It delivers much of the promised spectacle with its fast, flashy, combat-driven combat and superb soundtrack. But uneven presentation, occasional bugs and inconsistencies make it best for players who can overlook rough edges.

The story has the perfect length and was well constructed. The weapons and movements are cool.I liked Arena. CONS: The game have horrible bugs, once I was stucked and could not progride, I had go back 1 hour before in the last save. The game is kinda of unfinished they have a lot of things to fix. Some parts were not porperly explained.

The combat system is outstanding, and the barrenness of the game world can be considered stylish. However, the uninspired story, off-the-shelf characters, and a lot of downtime between battles are annoying. Lost Soul Aside feels like a sturdy and well-oiled skeleton that someone forgot to flesh out. So you constantly swing between enjoying the challenging monster duels and being annoyed by the many incomprehensible shortcomings that suggest the game should have just been finished at some point.

Fantastic visual design, a host of beautiful characters, serviceable story with good presentation, but the highlight is the engaging combat system UltiZero cooked. Absolutely a blast to play. I like the small puzzles scattered around the scenery as well. Game deserved better scores for what it is.

According to pretty much every single review the combat rules, the music rules, the graphics rule, but the dialogue **** and the story is just ok. But no one seems to have played the game in its original language and if you do then the dialogue and story are actually really good. The voice acting is awesome and I would argue that even the story is better. But how can the story be better isn't it the same story? A few points, first your not distracted by horrible voice acting so your more immersed in the story and start out with a more positive mindset. Second you have to read the subtitles and reading just provides a different experience and elevates story telling. And third because a lot of the dialogue is during combat you miss quite a bit of it which may seem like a negative but if you're not into the story or dialogue then simply listening to epic Japanese while fighting elevates the experience and also leaves much of the story to your imagination and creates more mystery which makes the story seem better than it is. I'd say this game is worth $60 even though it probably should have been priced at $50 and only gave it a 10 because I really want them to make more games like this and I'm worried with the low rating they probably wont. I'd give this game an 8 out of 10. Combat is epic and there's really nothing like it. I bought FF16 cause the combat looked insane but it ****, bosses really make or break combat and FF16 bosses are really no different than fighting a brick wall and that's where lost soul aside truly shines with its bosses. Their move sets are insane and so much fun to fight. FF7 remake also has really boring bosses. FF16 and FF7 are the first 2 FF games that ever looked interesting to me and they both were disappointing. Lost soul aside is the FF for me. The music rocks the combat rocks the bosses are far beyond anything I've ever experienced, the dialogue in Japanese is awesome and the story is pretty good. Zero complaints, blows every FF game out of the water and I bet even DMC even though I haven't played it cause it looks like ass. Lost soul aside is truly a masterpiece that fixes all my issues with the FF series which is super childish dialogue, abysmal combat and bosses that fight like a brick wall.

Lost Soul Aside delivers fast, fluid, and visually striking combat with diverse weapons, combos, and Arena powers. Each weapon has its own skill tree and customization options, but the story is cliché, levels are repetitive, platforming is imprecise, and replayability is minimal. Technical performance suffers occasional frame drops.

Lost Soul Aside delivers flashy, Devil May Cry-inspired combat, but stumbles everywhere else. The story is a cliché-ridden mess with weak characters, awkward cutscenes, and cringeworthy English voice acting. While the weapon variety, mid-combo switching, and magic abilities make for stylish and versatile fights, the lack of impact, clunky controls, and uneven difficulty spikes hold it back. Despite a decade of development, this long-awaited action game feels unpolished and far from worth its price.

Lost Soul Aside needed to be just a tribute to Final Fantasy in the form of an energetic hack & slash game capable of thrilling us with its boss fights. Unfortunately, it tries to be too much and fails in the most important aspect: the quality of its execution.

Lost Soul Aside is, ironically, a mostly soulless experience that never really comes together.

A flashy and demanding character action game with challenging boss fights and plenty of combo freedom, but undermined by a generic story, shallow characters, and uneven polish. Fans of precise, skill-driven combat may enjoy its encounters — everyone else will likely struggle to look past its flaws.

Lost Soul Aside Art Direction: The game is gorgeous. The world, environments, and overall character design are very appealing. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything looks beautiful and well-crafted. Gameplay: Fast-paced, fluid, and spectacular. Every battle delivers a real sense of power and dynamism. You can tell the studio prioritized fun above all, and it works. OST: Very enjoyable. It perfectly matches the action, both during battles and quieter moments. It gives the game a striking atmosphere, worthy of a JRPG. Story: Simple and classic. Around twenty hours of playtime, with no unnecessary pretension. Unlike a certain Final Fantasy XVI, Lost Soul Aside doesn’t try to be something it’s not—you know exactly what to expect. Like FFXVI, the hero is “good just because he’s good,” and the villain is “evil just because he’s evil.” Basic writing, but intentional. Still, it remains more coherent than FFXVI’s clumsy attempt at ambitious storytelling. Direction: The first chapter feels uneven, sometimes awkward in its presentation, but things improve greatly afterward, delivering some really strong sequences. Characters: Interesting—even endearing—but they could have used more development to truly leave a mark. As for the bestiary, it’s rather weak: you often fight the same enemies. World: Probably one of the most surprising aspects. Lost Soul Aside truly understands the essence of Final Fantasy. It could easily have been an official spin-off, as it adopts many of the series’ key elements—sometimes even surpassing FFXVI in essential areas. --- Conclusion: Lost Soul Aside is a game that embraces both its strengths and its limits. It doesn’t claim to revolutionize the genre but shines with excellent gameplay and spectacular set pieces. An effective, generous, and thrilling action game that almost deserves to bear the Final Fantasy name, as it captures the series’ spirit better than FFXVI does.

as a massive fan of final fantasy 16 I really thought and hoped I would enjoy this. the game looks beautiful and the music is quite good but nothing else interested me enough to keep playing. the structure of the game was annoying (cinematic scene, mob of weak enemies, boss, run to next section, repeat every 5-7 minutes). the dialog and delivery was especially annoying and cringe. the combat was flashy and looked cool sometimes but was mostly cumbersome. I dont doubt this game will be awesome for someone who clicks with it but it didn't click with me.
