Despite the uber-cute looks, Everybody's Tennis isn't a game that wants to hold your hand, and that only adds to its considerable charm. [May 2007, p.119]

Cute, accessible and fun, but lacking oomph. [May 2007, p.78]

All told, it's just a solid, by-the-numbers "Virtua Tennis" clone with a generic cast of Clap Hanz creations. If you really must have a tennis game on your PS2, the bargain basement will serve you far better than this rather apologetic 'will this do?' offering.

Enjoy sports games but this one felt the same after a single game, the challenges were BS and thank god I didnt have too many issues with the plat

I actually play tennis and feel this is the most responsive is how you can place every tennis shot. Drop shots lobs counters volleys. When I get a perfectly timed swing of the racket the ball has extra pop. The game is easy to pick up. So much fun playing Doubles with a buddy. I still play this from time to time and its 2021

I have no idea who thought it would be a good idea to call this "EVERYBODY'S" tennis, because this is clearly not for everybody. It might look funny and cartoonish, but the gameplay is punishing beyond belief. Even the easiest opponents can have you running around the court, while you hit perfect angles on them. This is not funny, but frustrating as hell. The training mini game is impossible to get anything higher than a D rating on a good day. It's as if the develloper didn't know what they wanted to make: a simulation game with arcade gameplay or an arcade game with simulated gameplay. I clearly don't know, but it fails at being either of them. It's just not a fun game to play, when the AI only misses shots when you hit perfect ones. Not my kind of tennis game, and i played games like Top Spin 2, 3 and 4, Virtua Tennis 3, virtua tennis 2009 and Smash Court 2. Top Spin 4 is clearly the best, but this doesn't even come close to the worst.

Bottom line, as with all the Hot Shots games (I have had enough golf though, thanks for the change Sony) Hots Shots Tennis is big on fun, end of story. [July 2007, p.63]

A must play for anyone who likes tennis games. Hot Shots Tennis has done for this sport the same things it did for golf – bring out the essence of the sport and leave everything else behind.

As a tennis player myself, I feel like this is one of the most responsive tennis games that was out at the time of the PS2. I've played through a couple different tennis games, and all of them fall into one of two traps - they are either too realistic and thus feel sluggish to play, or they are too unrealistic and thus feel too removed from the classic tennis experience. This game hits the perfect balance between those two extremes.

Overall, Hot Shots Tennis does the job just fine for someone looking for a cheerful tennis game on the PS2. It doesn’t do anything exceptionally well, but is entertaining as long as you aren’t expecting anything deep.

I only saw a few minor flaws with Hot Shots Tennis, such as the uselessness of the unlockables, extremely annoying multiplayer, and even a harmless yet painfully obvious "hiccup."

It takes a while for Hot Shots to offer any real challenge, although if you stick with it, your opponents do get smarter. Still, the game is clearly aimed at those who just want an easygoing tennis game with attractive visuals and predictable controls.

In the end, this one poses as a tennis game for beginners, but even tykes will only be mildly amused.
