Elementallis is a gem of an indie title and a must-play for any Zelda fan — I truly appreciated its efforts in honoring the series’ legacy while also offering enough variety to avoid stepping on its toes. Elementallis made me feel like the ’90s gamer kid I am at heart, and I’m thankful I got to relive that sense of joy and wonder.

Elementallis is one of the most solid and entertaining “Zelda-like” games we've seen in recent years. It doesn't reinvent the wheel, but everything it does, it does quite well, and the gameplay is quite enjoyable and entertaining.

I’m just so impressed! So no, as tempting as it is to call this “the missing Nintendo Zelda game” it does of course fall short of the bizarre perfection of A Link to the Past or what have you. But damn, it’s still tempting. This is a spectacular achievement, and a hugely fun and enormous game, packed with original ideas among the appropriately borrowed conceit. It’s a game the whole games press should be – I think the young people say – popping off over. Especially given it’s out for Nintendo Switch, along with other consoles. So let’s sing its praises until it can’t be ignored.

This game is a chore. A downright boring pain in the neck ****. The story is non-existent and the gameplay makes me want to rip my hair out with how obtuse it all is. I'm sure on some level it's a perfectly fine game but it is riddled with such small annoyances and flaws that it makes me hate the thought of playing this game. I HATE THIS GAME. There is said it. I don't want to play it. Let's start with the story. There is none. There is a vague plot that kicks starts the gameplay where the MC's parents do something to the elemental spirits to go away and plunge the continent into disarray. That's it. Year later you leave to right their wrongs and meet characters who don't pretend to have significance or personality. They are NPC's not characters. The world map is laid out like a labyrinth where everything is twice or three times as hard to get to then it should be and I'm not talking about treasures or the temples. Just getting to the towns in this game is such a pain that i question how such a frustrating world map came to be. Finding the map seller is sometimes impossible without luck and worst of all sometimes he's blocked off until you complete the actual area he's in before you get the map. Money is a chore to collect. Not only do you have to find several upgrades to your wallet but god forbid you find a chest filled with coins while your wallet is full because the coins will disappear into the void and when you really need them the most you will simply not be able to find enough coins for whatever upgrade or items you need. Grinding for coins in this game is such a nightmare that my time is too precious to waste on this crap. Combat is exactly what you'd expect from an old school top down adventure game like this. You swing your sword at enemies a few times to kill them. But don't get to close because if a single pixel touches you while your trying to attack, you take damage. You can try to use the elemental powers, the things the game is based one. Except only half are offensive and so weak you're better off risking the sword. The elemental powers are equally frustrating sometimes. Some are only useful in very rare occasions and even then I seriously question why they were designed to work like they do. Ice you used to shove pillars which reset themselves when you leave the room. The water allows you to walk on water in a bubble but if you get hit the water pops and you take damage from falling in the water and start back over on dry land. Again the little things like the game just lets you jump into bodies of water and take damage. Any other game wouldn't let you go into the water period without a swimming but not this one. If you want to take needless damage go right ahead. The entire game is riddled poor game design flaws and lack quality of life design that should be present in a game that may mimic retro 2D adventure but have adapted to modern game design. Plenty of people find pleasure and joy in this game but I simply do not. This game is miserable to play.

Gameplay is kind of fun. But reviews promised Zelda like game, but story feels like like a parody out of super nintendo era games.

With consistently well-designed dungeons and plenty of secrets to discover, this is a fantastic throwback to the likes of Link to the Past and other top-down classics.

Saw the review that gave it a zero for mentioning the game gives a non-binary option, so I knew I had to support them. Turns out, it’s a great game too. Thanks for the heads up sir/ma’am/they/them? Will always developers who are trying to make the world a better, more inclusive place.

Elementallis is a title that manages to impress above all for its heart, rather than its technical execution. The developers' love for the great classics is evident, and it shines through in every aspect of the game. The influences are clear and, in some cases, quite pronounced. The echoes of the older entries in The Legend of Zelda saga are apparent both in the world's structure and in the dungeon design and skill-based progression. Yet rather than feeling derivative, the game manages to use these inspirations as a foundation for building something personal. It is not a flawless experience — there are a few technical rough edges and controls that could be improved. The lack of Italian localisation is also a missed opportunity, as it would certainly have drawn in more players. And yet, it is hard not to be drawn in by its atmosphere, its eagerness to invite exploration, and the satisfaction that comes from mastering its mechanics. In an increasingly crowded market, Elementallis still manages to stand out. It is a journey that does not aim to dazzle with special effects, but to win you over slowly, step by step, element by element.

Amazing game, first hour feels like just another Zelda clone, and not anything too special, but after one hour it really picks up and has amazing gameplay, great battle mechanics, and the puzzles and dungeon design is spectacular. Pixel art is superb. I have a few nitpicks. After beating the game I still hadn't found a couple of items, a mana piece, 2 pieces of ore, and one journal entry, there is no indication on the map of where to even start looking. The devolper should make an updated version that shows how many heart pieces, ore, mana pieces, journal, and sewing kits are in each section (map is split into 8 sections), as well as how many you have already collected. That way you can at least narrow your search down when you are attempting to 100% the game at the end. If an improved legend for the map is added in a future update I may consider changing my review to a 10, I am a **** for old school zelda, nes, snes type games though. If you like the original Zelda on nes, or Zelda link to the past on snes you will likely enjoy this game as well.

You know exactly what you get. Outside of that, the setting and focus on elements are quite basic. It's another hyperderivative game that borrows way more than what it brings to the table that is new. 30 years ago it would pose real competition for Zelda, but alas it's 2026 so it's just another copy of a copy.
Summary Top-down action-adventure with elemental magic gameplay. Guided by guilt, you embark on a journey to restore the elements in a dying world. Harness and master elemental powers to fight enemies, solve puzzles, and explore a vast world filled with ancient temples.
