Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot – Daima – Adventure Through the Demon Realm Part 1 delivers a charming, nostalgia-infused expansion with fresh characters, grounded exploration, and cinematic battles, though its abrupt conclusion and pacing quirks slightly hamper the overall experience.

The Daima expansion for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot ventures into fresh territory with a charmingly youthful cast, a lovingly crafted demon realm, and a more dynamic ground-based combat system reminiscent of classic brawlers. While its atmosphere and gameplay innovations shine, the DLC suffers from its two-part structure, ending just as the story gains momentum, and is occasionally frustrating due to unbalanced boss fights and frequent enemy hordes.

Overall, Daima does a lot right. The main story and fights in particular are well staged and always fun, with the mass battles standing out in a particularly positive way. The game also scores points for its sense of progression. The experience only falls apart when you stop focusing on the main story or battles and start looking for entertainment outside of them.

With Adventure Through the Demon Realm — Part 1, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is closer than ever to a true RPG. However, it's a bit disappointing that this split into multiple parts has diminished the complete experience the DLC could have been. This retelling may be more robust as additional content than its predecessors and certainly boasts its own unique craftsmanship, but the feeling of incompleteness ultimately speaks louder.
