Citizen Sleeper has some really poignant storytelling in an awesome capitalist-hellscape-cyberpunk landscape, which are both things I am a **** for. The gameplay is definitely unique and not like any games I've played before but it didn't work for me the entire time, and especially at the end when it just felt like everything was super easy. In my last ten or so cycles I had only one or two tasks to be thinking about so I was able to use all of my dice and rerolls and chits on just a few things and it had none of the intensity that parts of the midgame had. When I messed up one of the questlines and got shot with a gun around half way through the game-- yikes that was intense and had some satisfying consequences. One thing that was somewhat disappointing was that not many of the characters you meet will ever interact with one another. A different review I saw opined about how incredible it would be if the Lem and Mina storyline at some point crossed paths with Feng's storyline and I couldn't help but agree. It would add to the immersion in this world and make The Eye truly feel like a place where everything is connected, and it also could've made for some really great story beats. I think this sort of text-heavy gaming experience isn't 100% for me but when it works it works really well. And I've heard really great things about the sequel and I can definitely see myself checking that one out too at some point. It's a little slow at times but overall: cool game, cool themes, cool aesthetics, cool atmosphere.

That a game is this stimulating with out a sword swinging or gun blasting.... It's been maybe decades since I remember enjoying reading this much. This is what Shakespeare would've done if he were born today...Incredibly well written, entertaining, and deeply soul-stirring

It was a slow start, but once I started and knew how to play I really loved this game. But not so much could be said about the second half of the game. The early/mid gameplay was really nice, but late game you are too op and everything from there is extremely time consuming and repetitive tasks. It did not help at all that the whole refugee arc which is essentially the second half of the game was not remotely interesting compared to the first half of the story.Although I really liked the dice mechanic, I wish they added some sort of time mechanic like morning/day whatever like how some other story games of this type do. I just really didnt like this game's day mechanic of where you sleep whenever as you had very limited actions a day and it made the game feel very time consuming / repetitive in many parts, while lots of it was also just spent waiting towards the end of the game for new chapters to unlock as there is a waiting period. I hope they have a better mechanic polishing for Citizen Sleeper 2 which I'll def be playing soon.Lastly the game is bit of a word dump. I wish they condensed the countless paragraphs a bit more, and add in some art or animated scenes, as the game is just a massive book with game mechanics to stall out the reading. I think having less filler in the story would've been super beneficial, as lots of the content was filler. Some of it was nice but other times it felt a real drag reading through like the refugee section where the story isn't interesting. The story choices usually had very little actual impact too, as most only change a sentence or paragraph, with only the very ending changing, whether you "pass" or "failed".

interesting stuff. i do not understand why they would have only 3 classes though. there's no class that has a boost to awareness or head on engagement, so it feels unfinished from the start.

Interesting Characters and easy enough to understand storyline with plenty of branching paths that you get to see play out at your leisure. Youree not forced to help any particular person outside of yourself which is nice. There's a handful of endings to see which is nice and even the characters i didn't really care for did have some amusement factor to them. Idk if its a spoiler to say there is no fail game state which is well implemented and while it does take some tension out of it the game does make it a point to remind you that you're not immune to the actions of other people and i like that. Its a nice read ina well developed and easy to understand world. Nice stuff and I'm ready to play the next game

Wow, just wow. This is a perfect example that you can still make an incredible game even without' gameplay'. The writing is fantastic, from the story to the characters, from the worldbuilding to the quests. Couple that with a fantastic soundtrack and great art and you get a truly excellent game. Some of the scenes are so well written that I got sad while reading them. Never expected to end up as a gay robot dad. Incredible game, the only minus is that it can sometimes get monotonous when you're 'in-between' quests with the gameplay loop.

Incredible storytelling and an overall satisfying game with very polished mechanics. The difference in character sprites in comparison to the fully three-dimensional landscape would be more than acceptable, however, the sprites lack life, slightly disturbing the immersion of the game. A game in which many, including myself, have found themselves coming back to.

3D adventure with DnD-oriented gameplay mechanic. + Story-Setting
+ Wide variety of characters
+ Art-design - No voice-over in dialogues
- Hollow characters
- No progression of gameplay mechanics during the whole game

Citizen Sleeper was an unexpected yet enjoyable experience, blending elements of a visual novel with a tabletop RPG set on a far-future space station. You play as a character who gave up their mortal form to become an android-like being, waking up on the station with no memory and navigating relationships and multiple possible endings over about 10 hours. While the narrative and dice-based task system were compelling, I wished player choices had a greater impact beyond just altering dialogue. The game’s atmospheric music perfectly matched its sci-fi setting, and I’m particularly excited to see if the sequel leans further into its TTRPG mechanics and dynamic storytelling.

I can't love this game enough. I've never played a game of this genre, but loved it. The story is freaking great and I hope there's a sequel to this game in the works. Oh and the soundtrack is insanely **** good.

I just finished Citizen Sleeper. It was really nice. A mostly text based narrative adventure but with dice rolls for actions, and a cool sci-fi sort of cyberpunk setting. Looks like it had multiple ways to finish it also. I'd recommend it for sure. Took me under 7 hrs to finish.

It doesn't take long to complete a playthrough. Mine took about 5 hours (without completing all quests). The mechanism of distributing different dices to complete actions is pretty interesting.

Clunky UI and mechanics. Was meant to simulate a TTRPG but they didn't show rolls well and results were inconsistent with what I would consider a success or failure. Lore and characters were interesting at least

This game is very good but what makes it special, except great writing, is its soundtrack. I listen to it atleast once a week and now I want to replay the game just to have an excuse to listen it.

Nice snack. Entertaining story, manages to be well written and have just enough words to be deep yet not boring.
The (management) game aspect of it does it job for a couple of hours, then it gets old - it feels like an exciting survival race at the beginning, but then it gets a bit too predictable after. Choice is mostly an illusion, but it doesn't detract much from the experience.

The kind of game that makes us wonder if it's really a game. Here I have more the feeling of having read a book! A good book in which you are the hero in a cyberpunk universe with its choices and branches of course, but a book nonetheless. A “gameplay” which consists of using action “dices” to advance the different quests and then that’s it. After several "cycles", we understand that we will have to prioritize our best jets to guarantee our survival and advance on certain critical quests. Afterwards we progress without much difficulty until one of the multiple endings. Big negative point: no international version.

Citizen Sleeper is a captivating science fiction story settled on a heavy damaged space station called The Eye. The mysterious space station is isolated somewhere in deep space, inhabited as much as humans and artificial intelligence. Living on The Eye, means a hard life with a lot of drama. It proves to be a place too small for too different characters wich interact and give rise either to conflict or profound friendship. Here you find discrimination, a fierce struggle for surviving, a small local economy with an import and export market, different factions with their own agendas, and more drama. The playable character is a "Sleeper", a human whose mind has been digitized and has been put into a robot body to be controlled by the Essen-Arp corporation. He decide to break free from his masters and escapes on a freighter which brings him to The Eye. Here is where it starts his real fight for surviving and freedom. Your main objective is to survive on The Eye, your new home, build up your own connections and, eventually, leave the place. To accomplish that you have to run different jobs to maintain your robotic body in a good condition and to make your way to the final destination. I like the game story very much, with its complexity and logical settings. The characters are various, with a rich personality and a complex backstory. The missions feel too easy to fulfill, all you need is a lucky roll of dices. I praise the characters design but the rest of the graphics aren't impressive. This is my score for each department of the game: Gameplay: 5/10; Story: 7/10; Characters: 8/10; Video: 2/10; Audio: 6/10; User Interface: 4/10

Possibly one of the best games I've ever played, an amazing story and artwork, not to mention the phenomenal writing. I think the gameplay or lackthereof is a perfect framework for this story and a perfect way to tell it, not once did i become frustrated with the games mechanics. I played this game for 12 hours straight and got i want to say 4 endings of 7, and this is without a doubt my favorite game of all time and will remain so for years to come

It's a tabletop/text adventure-like game about struggle, the ownership of your body, and the survival on a capitalist space station. Quests and npcs abound where cycles and available dice dictate what you can and cannot do. I like the premise but the execution is too simplistic.

Came for the premise, stayed for the stories. The gameplay of this game isn't exactly my typical bread and butter, but the artstyle and ideas conveyed hooked me. While I have to admit that the game doesn't exactly hold the stressful decision making that the first few hours demands of you, the stories this game tells are gripping and emotional, well worth the time spent investing into them. The stress of decision making is somewhat damped once you realize that all possible stories are available to approach at any time you see fit, the worry that you have to rush to complete these quests in a timely manner fades to the background. Certain quests require you to complete them in a certain amount of time, but these are very rare. Overall, an incredibly satisfying sci-fi adventure, packed with heart and emotion. Well worth the play.

Citizen Sleeper is a sci-fi role-playing action-adventure game. Onboard a space station this narrative game lets you meet a diverse set of characters all with their own problems. Every morning a set of dice is rolled (rpg tabletop style), the higher the dice, the higher the chance to complete quests and events of your choosing. While you do not have to complete every quest and help all the characters, I thought the game is written well enough to want you see all different stories. The music and art style are very atmospheric and fit the game perfectly. Unfortunately, the game felt a bit short and after a few days I was over leveled with skill points and money, the struggle of the first few days easily forgotten.

This has better writing than (at least in my humble opinion) Fallout: New Vegas and has supplanted that game's position as likely my favorite videogame. My only criticism of the game is that it's just not long enough, and for that reason, I cannot recommend it more.

After putting in some hours into this game, i can say that i love the artstyle, the storytelling and the gameplay. The last can sometimes feel a bit repetitive though.

Citizen Sleeper is a game that I never would have thought it would be so enjoyable. The combination of addicting gameplay, great soundtrack, and a wonderful story create a very fun and emotional game.

This game has a very table top rpg feel in all the right ways If you liked disco Elysium you may like this one. Very replayable. Great writing and graphics Highly recommend

Citizen Sleeper delighted and surprised me. Its evocative writing and character design bring the story to life, and the tabletop-rpg-style resource systems reinforce the feeling that your character is barely **** by in a cyberpunk dystopia on the frontier of space. I find myself daydreaming about the situations and people I met along my first journey on Erlin's Eye, and I can't wait to start another. Don't miss this one.

positive: amazing atmospheric music (check out Amos Roddy) / stories / characters negative: game mechanics are a bit bland, quite short (10-11 hours for me) hoping for more content to be added

I game bits and pieces of I like very much. Reading narrative in the raspy voice of the limbic system in Disco Elysium helps very much. What I'm trying to say is that it doesn't compare very favorably. Gameplay is addictive and simple like a mobile game, but after some hours it feels very much like busywork.

I like the artstyle, the mechanics are fun. However the ideological hammer that beats you in the head is a bit difficult to miss. The evil capitalist corporation, that owns everything including your body (you get it?! Not your body, not your choice!) Fights the good physically strong women. It's too blatant for good storytelling and makes it more like a fairy tale than cyberpunk. There are no gray-area for your morals. Everything is black or white, good or bad. A bit lazy story..

A simple, charming, compelling game that delivers a sci-fi experience driven by story. The .... crowd is going to hate this one, while functional people who contribute to society will enjoy it.
