Hollow Knight: Silksong0
Sep 16, 2025
The typical case of doing your homework last minute :
Gameplay wise it the same game
Nothing makes sense in this follow-up Hornet is introduced at the beginning as being a monster even a god among these insects.
gameplay wise you’re by far the weakest! You do little to no damage, you move exactly like the hollow knight and there’s no charms system anymore. You fought against god in the first one receiving double hellish damage but in this game …
You do little damage to the smallest insect while receiving double damage from everything : Environment, mobs and bosses. In later acts you receive up to four damages in the most **** ways ever. This is the cheapest way to make the game feel longer than it actually is and pad its runtime. Bosses are way too simple and poorly designed so devs just slapped on : - Double damage
- Add ons
- Environment hazards
- Input detection
- Input distorsion (patched)
- Frame clipping
- Stun locking
- Contact damage - Untelegraphed attacks - Off screen attacks Which ends up giving this artificial difficulty instead of well-choreographed move set in which you could act and react Mobs are all over the place and it gets tedious every single time.
They also have the same unavoidable (double) damage issue. They just threw a bunch of enemies in a small space with ennemies spawning right on you, and stunning you while others spamming attacks and playing (aerial) footise as if in street fighter. It’s like having all the worst things of the pantheon and the arena crammed into one big “game” (dlc) Not because it’s hard, but all these flaws combined once more. After seven years of feed back! Remember, these fools have HK money now. They would’ve made an amazing and fun game if they actually tried! And in wouldn’t be fun if most ennemies were flyers too ! Double damage flying mobs most the time throwing projectiles off screen while flying off if you get too close. Dont forget, theres still contact damage of enemies… if you touch any enemy, big or small. Even if not in an attack phase you receive damage. In a game where most ennemies fly, move around with no tells whatsoever get to deal you damage just by kamikaze their **** onto you… and you don’t deal any damage back… make it make sense … if it deals damage it needs a tell. Otherwise it’s artificial difficulty… oh wait this is silksong. It’s all artificial difficulty! Also Filling it with trolly gimmicks is the most obnoxious thing I’ve seen. Your game needs patches from the very get go and you wasted time putting trolly traps here and there ?… that’s beyond self awareness. Enemy variety is laughable: at most there’s 10 different enemies with different skins patched on with a slight if any changes in the move-set or meshed between different enemies. The economy is more than okay I don’t get what people are complaining about. You guys need to stop skipping fights and you be filthy rich (I lost 1400 rosaries once and it didn’t make a dent) Side quests and exploration takes care of farming in an almost organic matter. The game is really tedious rather than hard. And you never feel like levelling up is that impactful. The “skills” you unlock to open up the map are gizmos more than anything really. Rating is insane. Most players are deepthroating the hell out of devs. I bet that most players didn’t even finish the game before glazing the 10/10 reviews. And those who finished it become glazing machines to play cool. HK is one of my favorite games ever but this one really feels like this was made right after GodMaster DLC but they decided sit on it seven years. Mechanics are the same outdated tedious chores. Balance is tuned into late game progress instead of a new game.
The same flaws of the first game are here with no intake or feedback considered. I want to emphasise on one thing : Double damage broke the game. It made the Radiance irrelevant !
The whole first game revolved around it’s strength and it’s impact on your environment. Furthermore it made health upgrades irrelevant because health masks are rare and far apart in this second instalment and you need four pieces to make a new mask … in this big and empty map … but it doesn’t add up with everything dealing double damage…meaning that first seven mask parts you’re collecting (good **** luck) are doing jack **** !
Let’s not forget the input detection/distorsion that had to get patched after release… seven years …
A real waste of time imo. In the sense that devs really don’t value your time. They do value your money though because there’s a lot for 20$ for sure..
Should’ve game tested it with a beta first And to show you how right I am, team cherry patched the difficulty down a week after release ! Seven years to make a game and it already needs a patch…. What a joke P.S.: I’m an average player, I finished the game but I would bet a million that most of the 10/10 reviews didn’t even do so before reviewing.

Perfect example of a badly polished release. - bad pacing : the game just insists on interrupting gameplay to dump some sub-par story. The beginning is too slow too which doesn't help. - map design : serviceable but not impressive in the slightest. Nothing stands out but the furnace level which slows down the game making you wait til the blaze goes off... - Combat : worst part of this game. Specially bosses.
Hitboxes are so poorly designed, damage detection all over the place. Combined with overlaying attacks coming from blind spots. Leaving you often taking damage in the cheapest ways. Bosses also mouvement is all over the place, they track your mouvement as well as well as their attacks making footsies out of the question.
Cheap environment hazards on boss arenas just feel added nonsense for the hell of it.
Also hits stuns so you get chained quite easily into a fatal combo out of nowhere..
Not that you need a lot of hits to die. Healing and HP a irrelevant on boss fights because they kill you in 2 or 3 hits max.
Just a sluggish effort to go through all this.. - Progression : most progression isn't that interesting. Asmentioned earlier, hp increases doesn't matter when you get killed in a couple of hits. Art direction and music are quite nice even. This game shows how good tram cherry are.
Polishing the game before release is everything because of how important first impressions are.
