Was really enjoying the initial vibes of this game. A really enjoyable style and mood for the first zone, and immediately after I'm bored and hardly care. I do understand the dichotomy theyre going for, the contrast between the soft, bright colors of the protagonist and her memories of her childhood home, but everything afterwards is obnoxiously stereotypical. Spikey purple bad guys. A dark, indistinguishable cityscape. A decent roguelike, but only worth consideration if you've already milked the fun out of half a dozen better ones.

Two Point Campus7
Jul 27, 2023
Not entirely sure what the fanfare for these Two Point games is for, my best guess is this is what happens when fans of The Sims play something else. The only aspect of the game I find myself enjoying is the art style, which is cartoonish and bright, which really makes this game stand out from its life sim counterparts. Very average in all other aspects however, does about everything you could want a college simulation to do, minus all the unpleasant interactions with frat boys or melodramatic egirls.

Game Dev Tycoon6
Jul 27, 2023
A decent little way to spend an afternoon. In the grand scheme of simulation games, this one feels a bit simple and reductive. It strips down and simplifies the art of game development as a means of streamlining the experience, but in doing so, it cuts out a lot of the replayability and the players ability to create their own success stories, due to the fact that what is or isn't successful is determined by a set of hard and fast rules discovered by doing sales reports on prior titles. If you buy it on sale, you'll have a fun couple hours naming your games nasty sex puns or something, but I don't find too much entertainment value beyond that.

Democracy 36
Jul 25, 2023
A fun way to spend a few hours, especially with friends or partners. The entertainment value seems to come from the entertaining ways you can fail, but it seems to be a bit disappointing that if you want to take the game seriously, the interconnection of things and the ways in which certain choices will effect certain parties are somewhat vague and nonsensical. The game is sincerely just raising and lowering number values, and ultimately, there's only so much entertainment value held within that mechanic.

Call of Duty: Black Ops6
Jul 4, 2023
A classic from my childhood, this game does not hold up that well honestly. The story is an exception due to the fact it takes risks and even in the current catalog of Call of Duty games, sticks out as one of the most inventive and different ideas for a story. The execution however, is where the faults begin to stick out. Perhaps it's just the PC port, but this game is not exceptionally good at telegraphing when an enemy is down for the count, or when he's just injured. Not only that, but several of the animations the enemies take when injured seem to temporarily negate any damage, as maybe a dozen instances, I watched bullets pass through the enemy as they stumbled about after being shot. It really breaks the immersion, but as I said, perhaps that's due to the port I was playing. The zombies mode also did not seem to hold up as well as I'd hoped, Kino der Toten was my favorite when I was younger, and going back to it did not have the magical reunion I was hoping for. A tragically underwhelming reunion overall, hoped the game had held up as well as I'd remembered.

GhostWire: Tokyo7

I get the feeling that this game has been unfairly discounted by a majority of people, due to the fact this games release seemed to fly under most peoples radar, mine included. The game does have a number of disappointing flaws, from the repetition of the late game to the disjointed and flimsy story, but overall this was one of the most dense and interesting open worlds I've explored in a long time. Due to the nature of its crowded streets, it's not an exaggeration to say I was discovering something visually striking at nearly every corner I turned. Not only did they make Tokyo an interesting city to explore, but they settled on a modern yokai influence to the game, and created a combat flow revolving around switching between a small pool of magical finger guns to best approach the enemies. While the repetition does eventual drain the game of it's entertainment value, I think this is a really great game for a certain group of people, specifically, anyone that owns any type of anime girl merchandise.

Slayers X: Terminal Aftermath: Vengance of the Slayer8
Jul 4, 2023
This game was made solely for a very select group of people who grew up in the midwest from 1990-1997. This game was oddly personal to me in ways that is hard to explain. The story is dumb and convoluted in the most entertaining ways, something that feels exactly like it was made by an edgy 15 year old as a means of coping with the mundanity of his environment. It feels like stories I myself would have made ten years ago, and that coupled with the fact that the game never treats these self-insert power fantasies as embarrassing and instead embraces the type of teenage loner that would dream something like this up shows a lot of respect and reverence for a type of childhood fantasy that seems to have evaporated more than two decades ago.

Deathloop7
Jul 4, 2023
The first quarter of the game really invests you with its mystery and world-building, as well as the meshing of first person shooter and rouge-like elements. Unfortunately, the potential falls flat on it's face after it's discovered very early on you can save weapons and skills from being reset for relatively little cost, and the puzzle of assassinating all targets within a single day becomes embarrassingly easy to solve. Stealth quickly proves itself to be useless and at that point, most of the levels turn into shooting galleries. The ending answers perhaps one or two of the biggest questions the player will have at the end, but most questions regarding anything regarding the timeloop are forgotten during an ending that lacks any sort of satisfying resolution. A charismatic lead, the world design, and a slightly interesting twist keep this game above mediocre long enough to make me disappointed the rest of the game couldn't live up to it's potential.

If you ever played Doom 2016 or Doom Eternal and wanted the diet version of that, this game is that all the way. The only aspects which this game might be able to stack up to those is that it does have a very good soundtrack. The game unfortunately pales in comparison to its peers, as the combat is made much worse by its rhythm based gameplay. I have to admit, this does seem as though this game was tailor made for a certain demographic, and as far as the type of game they made for the person who would want this, I have to admit they did very well, but I can't discount my personal taste, which made this a game very lacking in the departments that would leave it a memorable experience to me.

Shadow Warrior 3: Definitive Edition8
Jun 5, 2023
Overall, possibly the best of the current iteration of Shadow Warrior. That is due in part, however, to the fact it's nearly identical to Doom Eternal gameplay-wise. Picture Doom Eternal made on a budget and written by a team that thinks its funny to say things like **** or to reference Fast and the Furious. Yeah, it's humor is still bad, but at this point, it almost becomes part of it's charm. The gameplay as mentioned is doing everything it can to emulate Doom Eternal, but it's still fun regardless. I won't complain about playing dozens of Doom Eternal clones, that gameplay loop activates my ape brain in satisfying ways. Buy on sale, and skip the cutscenes.

Shadow Warrior 27
Jun 5, 2023
An entertaining and high-speed shooter marred by some rather egregious and unnecessary looter elements. These elements drag the game down to a crawl at times, limit the utility of an expansive weapon list, and turn most of the late game into a a slog. The story and side content does nothing to help this offering either, as nearly every quest is an uninteresting cycle of going somewhere and shooting something. Genuinely the only thing elevating the game is its enjoyable combat, which does all of the heavy lifting and makes this remotely playable. The repetition of going somewhere uninteresting to shoot at something uninteresting is passable since the act of shooting that thing is overall satisfying.

A shooter lives and dies on it's ability to entertain, and this game does a fair job of that once it gets into the meat of the game. Some of the early levels are very slow and don't do much to show off the entertaining gunplay that will come later. There are some issues however, and that is that overall the game does not present anything whatsoever that will stick with anyone after the credits roll. There won't be any desire to go back for subsequent playthroughs as nearly everything worth experiencing is done in that first playthrough. Everything this game attempts to do, about ten other games do much better. There is also an unfortunate lack of anything worth noting or remembering the game for. No standout bosses, no memorable fights, arenas, or levels, and a story that at the end of the day, is just about as uninteresting and generic as it could have been. Amateurish, but shows promise, and I think that this studio can do much better in the near future.

Dead Island: Riptide5
May 29, 2023
A worse and overall more tedious addition to Dead Island. It reaches credits in about half the time, but wears out its welcome before it hits 5 hours in. I attribute that to the fact it's opening is not nearly as strong as the opening for the first entry was. The difficulty gets to be way more aggrivating much early as enemies will overwhelm you with numbers you don't have skills to sufficiently manage, with movement and defensive measures being about the same, with the addition of a few extra attack options and a few new weapon types. A few interesting missions do stand out, but otherwise, it's not as worthy as revisiting as it's predecessor.

Dead Island6
May 29, 2023
The opening of this game absolutely hits, even over a decade later I still think this opening is really solid. It surprisingly manages to get the player invested, and the visuals of a tropical paradise torn apart by zombies is very striking. However, the later half of the game is trash. The difficulty is raised significantly by the fact that your character has no defensive capabilities despite the fact 80 percent of the game is focused on melee. Even the 'dodge' seems to be less of an actual mechanic and more of an unintentionally exaggerated backwards jump. This game goes from fun to being a chore incredibly quickly, and it never manages to pick the levels of enjoyment back up.

A shooter that barely rises above being completely mediocre because of it's self-aware and campy vibes and its buckets of blood. I didn't have much hope for this game from the beginning, as I don't personally get excited about certain studios releasing games, I get more excited about concepts than pedigree, and the lower amount of hype I had for this release probably kept me from rating it lower. To be clear, this is not a good game. At all. The visuals are miserably bland, the combat is frustratingly simple, the world is empty and boring, practically in all aspects a game can excel, this one stumbles. I would be lying however, if I said that it was awful. It's just not good, which is something people can't seem to understand these days. Also, 90 percent of the people reviewing this are getting it from gamepass, so they're definitely just being a bunch of babies.

An intensely fun game, even to this day. The missions are not as varied or as memorable, but the game set the standard for all of the sequels after, by making it entertaining through its animations, audio, and addictive gameplay loop. Its intensely fun to snipe, explode, and mow down patches of enemies, and the combination of loud, powerful sounding weapons and reactive enemy wounding and killing animations make it a short but sweet experience.

Tempted to rate it lower because I just felt like I couldnt stand to play anymore, but I can see how this would appeal to some. Dark Souls crossed with Dynasty Warriors, but it has the worst parts of both. Mountains of useless items that have their effectiveness determined by arbitrary item levels, mindless combat, braindead enemy ai, and horrible voice acting. A retro inspired fps that has only a few noteworthy aspects. Decent level design, one or two interesting weapons, and fair but challenging enemy count and placement. The weapon variety, however, is slim, and most magical items are just things like Ye Olde Rocket Launcher or shotgun. Like, if youre doing an fps based on magic use, it feels like took the most boring route with it. Levels can also turn into slogs that will just drag. The game last just a little longer than my patience did, but I was still able to complete it before the experience turned into a chore.

By no means is this a groundbreaking or genre defining game. This is Payday without all the wasted time, and while it doesnt have the depth either, it strips out all the worst parts that come with a deep and confusing meta and replace it with a repeatable rougelike, in which you learn that as frustrating as your mistakes are, very few of them will be detrimental enough to end a run.

A very good game, but I don't think its the masterpiece many claim it to be. There are some minor technical issues, which I encountered none of, but they cant be ignored. I dont like the addition of the crafting system and I think the addition of knife durability was a lame decision, as knife combat wasnt exactly OP enough to nerf in the OG, but I digress. Mar 26, 2023
A quick summary of the three games included with this entry: Uncharted 1: Absolutely boring and generic third person shooter. Could have been saved if it had been a little more campy but it didn't embrace it's camp factor enough to be endearing. Uncharted 2: Shooting and movement get a huge improvement, but I have similar issues with the games story. The small hints of camp were not enough to save the story from being completely forgettable. If it weren't for the improvements in gameplay, I feel safe saying the series would have imploded. Uncharted 3: Genuinely great shooting and movement, finally feel like saying one of these games is worth playing because of it. The story does not fare any better than the first two, but at this point I'm not really expecting anything interesting to emerge from the soup of cliches and contrivances that this story is built out of.

Came for the premise, stayed for the stories. The gameplay of this game isn't exactly my typical bread and butter, but the artstyle and ideas conveyed hooked me. While I have to admit that the game doesn't exactly hold the stressful decision making that the first few hours demands of you, the stories this game tells are gripping and emotional, well worth the time spent investing into them. The stress of decision making is somewhat damped once you realize that all possible stories are available to approach at any time you see fit, the worry that you have to rush to complete these quests in a timely manner fades to the background. Certain quests require you to complete them in a certain amount of time, but these are very rare. Overall, an incredibly satisfying sci-fi adventure, packed with heart and emotion. Well worth the play.

A shooter this old should not hold up as well as Goldeneye does, but this game is still incredibly satisfying to play, even more entertaining than most modern shooters on the current market. A really tragic follow up to what was a really fun little parody game. How do you take the match-3 gameplay and turn it into an abysmal chore? It doesn't help that the goofy little dating sim mechanic of the first is turned into some nasty incels wet dream, turning all of the characters into glorified sex objects. Understandably, the first wasn't exactly innocent of this, but it had a more grounded approach to characterizing the female partners. Hunipop 2 is like 'this girl likes to drink milk cuz it looks like cum! Hur hur!'. Regardless, I played through the entirety in one consecutive sitting, something that as a working adult I've come to appreciate. Breaking up resource collection by forcing you to the surface constantly is such an annoying gameplay mechanic.
