It just doesn't gel, with misshapen models, repetitive, bland music and a watered-down story that struggles to maintain a "thug-like" quality through forced profanity. [Sept 2005, p.56]

A dumb, forgettable game and nothing else. [Sept 2005, p.100]

Despite offering a laundry list of moves and button combinations, the game's complicated controls feel shallower than the three-buttoned Capcom arcade classics like "The Punisher" or "Alien vs. Predator." Group battles feel too constricted with the auto target locking mechanics, and the simplistic one-on-one fights are somewhere on the level of "Pit Fighter."

Me parece algo injusto que los criticos no valoren mucho este juego, ya que al parecer loscríticosno supieron como profundisar el juego, pero nosotros como jugadores si lo valoramos mucho.

I've been looking for this game for ages, remeber playing it on my ps2 slim, great atmosphere maybe its not the best fighting game ever but for me it's amazing.

Don’t listen to the “professional reviewers”. This game is so much better than a 4/10.. the music is sweet, the progression and rpg elements complement the game so well. The voice acting and lines are beyond funny, found myself laughing out loud multiple times. The controls feel good even for 2024 standards. If you enjoyed a previous title from Capcom called God Hand, you’ll for sure enjoy this.

Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance is a really strange game; a mixture of ideas that comes across as extremely hit and miss. The amalgamation of traditional beat-em-up gameplay and one-on-one works really well; but on the other hand the disguise system seems flawed, who wants to buy a beat-em-up when the aim is to avoid confrontations?

Ultimately, though, it’s all about how well you wield a crowbar.

One of my favorite games on PS2! It had such a great atmosphere, a great soundtrack, a unique then open world and free roam play style, that today everything coped to this style! It was so ahead of its time, with many new ideas and many characters and scenarios to keep you busy! it had many different endings! the fights were intense! you could also play vs mode as a beat em up game! Very underrated game! But Famitsu who were more experienced, gave this game a 30/40 score! User score today is 8/10! I wish we could have a remake of this game! Its ideas are still solid!

Great in concept but ends up being a slow-loading, profanity-laden action game with subpar graphics.

Bland gameplay, however, stifles what inspiration there is. The fighting action is fundamentally underwhelming, and a poor camera and constant loading further handcuff things.

And for the beat-'em-up fans who want something new, just playing Beat Down feels enough like getting kicked down the stairs that you won't return to the genre any time soon.

I cursed plenty while playing, and it came straight from my own beat down heart. Get your revenge on bad games and leave this stinker in the shadows of the bargain bin.
