Hours Played: 35 Hours Trophy Completion: 26/50 (44%) Worth My Time: Definitely, even though it's a bit on the long side Worth My Money: Yes, but wouldn't hurt to wait for a sale. What I Like: The story is really good, comparable to more traditional medium like movies and television. It's very emotional and pulls you in right from the start. What I Dislike: Lots of filler for a 30 hour game. Most of the optional content is pretty boring. Not much gameplay to be had to be honest. How It Stacks Up: It's a Final Fantasy in name only. Better to be compared to God of War. But as an action game, it does it pretty well. It's more story focused than gameplay focused though with a ton of cutscenes and quick time events. It's also very streamlined to the point of being very casual. But the story more than makes up for any flaws the game has.

Hours Played: 173 Hours Trophy Completion: 35/44 (76%) Worth My Time: 100%. Worth My Money: If you like fighting games, yes. What I Like: The gameplay is the best Street Fighter of all time. Better than 2, better than 3, certainly better than 5. Fast loading makes rematches a good time. Single player mode is surprisingly good. Avatar customization and battles are pretty cool. What I Dislike: After a month, tournaments are still not available. Battle pass is weak. The cast is kinda boring. How It Stacks Up: Even though it's only been a month, I can easily say this is the best fighting game of all time. And the numbers are there to back it up. Even if you don't really like fighting games, I would give this a try. Modern controls make getting into it very streamlined. Sure the cast is weak, but expect there to be continued support via DLC characters.

Hours Played: 27 Hours Trophy Completion: 22/49 (41%) Worth My Time: If you have time to spare. Worth My Money: It's not a full price game, so sure. What I Like: It has charm. The voice acting is pretty good, and because of this the characters are very likeable. Decent amount of options when it comes to playstyle and customization. What I Dislike: Combat isn't the greatest. Overstays it's welcome. How It Stacks Up: It's pretty mediocre. Not as good as games like Kena, but sure of a lot better than games like Godfall. It's charm is the best thing going for it. If it looks appealing to you, you will probably enjoy it. If it doesn't look like your type of game, it's not worth playing.

Hours Played: 23 Hours Trophy Completion: 30/56 (43%) Worth My Time: Only if you know what you're getting into. Worth My Money: Only on sale. What I Like: The setting is pretty cool, and so is the main character. Has tons of style. The story is pretty interesting. What I Dislike: Unfortunately, not much substance. Terrible quality of life and generally anti-user friendly. Can be both buggy and janky at times. How It Stacks Up: It's very middle of the road. Not a bad game by any means, but not one that you'd want to replay over and over again like other souls-like games. Kind of a button-masher, which can be good or bad depending on your taste. However, it still is very much a souls-like, so if you're into those, I'd definitely recommend it.

What I Like: It's fun and involving. Both making bases and raiding bases are extremely satisfying, and offers tons of possibility. What I Dislike: Controls are a bit finicky. Ranking system is dumb. Still feels a bit like a beta. How It Stacks Up: Made by the people who made Dead By Daylight, it is of similar quality. Very fun to play until you realize how broken it is. At which point, you either quit, or hate-play it. There isn't quite a game out there that's like it, so it's worth to play it once just for the unique experience.

Hours Played: 46 Hours Trophy Completion: 43/103 (42%) Worth My Time: Only if you know what you're getting into. Worth My Money: Yes, it's a pretty good value when on sale. What I Like: The weapon system is pretty cool and there's tons of abilities. Runs really well on PS5. What I Dislike: Wasted potential as it ends up being a janky button masher with terrible bulletsponge AI and way too much loot. How It Stacks Up: You can really tell that this was made by the same people who made Dead or Alive. Unnecessarily complex systems everywhere you look. Tons of video game here, just none if it is particularly good. There is definitely an audience for this game though. It is for people who think the Souls series is too slow and boring and hard, and instead wish it were a casual over-the-top action button masher. At least they did a good job with the PS5 features.

Hours Played: 14 Hours Trophy Completion: 48/59 (80%) Worth My Time: Yes, definitely. Worth My Money: Yes, it's included with PS+ Extra. What I Like: Feel-good story with feel-good gameplay. The characters are very compelling, and the voice acting is well done. Held my attention from start to finish. What I Dislike: Combat controls have a steep learning curve. No checklist for tracking 100% completion. Voice actors were done dirty and not included in the credits. How It Stacks Up: One of the best Marvel games to date, certainly better than Miles Morales and Avengers. It has pretty unique gameplay that's more akin to an action-rpg than the typical Sony 1st party action-adventure games. PS5 features are slim, but at least it looks great. Even if you don't like Marvel or the MCU, I would still recommend this as I think it's better than the Guardian of the Galaxy movies.

Hours Played: 5 Hours Trophy Completion: 18/50 (27%) Worth My Time: Yes, it is short. Worth My Money: Yes, it's included with PS+ Extra. What I Like: Great story as well as character development. The world is well crafted with attention to detail. Traversal is fun, even when wandering aimlessly. What I Dislike: It's short. It's more of the same, for the most part. How It Stacks Up: It improves upon the original Spider-Man in nearly every way, but only marginally. If you liked the original, you should like this. If you didn't like the original, but enjoyed the Into the Spider-Verse movie, there's a good chance you will enjoy this. The PS5 version offers numerous graphical options, along with a raytracing option for those that are curious. Not much in terms of DualSense features, however. Still, a very solid launch title for the PS5.

Hours Played: 25 Hours Trophy Completion: 25/52 (48%) Worth My Time: Yes, if you like open world games. Worth My Money: Yes, it's included with PS+ Extra. What I Like: Great cast of characters with top notch voice acting. It's a high-quality game that you can tell the devs put a lot of heart into. Side quests that are just as good as the main quest. What I Dislike: Unskippable cutscenes even for the most mundane events. I don't need to see a 30 second cutscene of Jin petting his horse every time he finishes a quest. It aims for a relaxing zen-like presentation but to me, just came across as boring and slow. How It Stacks Up: It is definitely a Sony quality game, but I think their other offerings (TLOU, GOW, Horizon) are much better games. It does have the best open world though, so if that's your main interest, this game will be for you. In terms of PS5 features, it has all the standard upgrades which enhance the experience greatly over the PS4 version.

Hours Played: 65 Hours Trophy Completion: 34/34 PLATINUM Worth My Time: Yes, even if you don't beat it. Worth My Money: Yes, it's included with PS+ Extra. What I Like: Great utilization of the DualSense. Gunplay is satisfying. Story is interesting enough. What I Dislike: It's a long ass game. I had to finish runs in multiple sittings, which thankfully, I played post-patch which allows one to save and resume a run. RNG is terrible, especially if you are a completionist. I didn't get all the weapons until 60+ hours in, well after I have already beaten it multiple times. Also, the game has quite a few bugs and issues, including crashes. How It Stacks Up: As a 3rd person shooter, it's a great action game; as a roguelike, it's oversaturated with RNG. Everyone's experience will vary greatly depending on what items and weapons they unlock. Compared to Hades, which is a streamlined experience everyone can enjoy, I think Returnal is more layered with complexities to a point that is borderline bloated. As a PS5 game, it has excellent utilization of current gen features in a market filled with cross-gen games that are mostly hi-res ports.

Oct 24, 2022
Hours Played: 7 Hours Trophy Completion: 20/30 (54%) Worth My Time: Yes, it's real short. Worth My Money: Yes, on sale. What I Like: I came for the gameplay, stayed for the story and presentation. I didn't expect such a fun story, filled with great voice acting. Combat is pretty simple but refined. What I Dislike: It's real short, and if you continue to play past the credits, the post-game is quite grindy. PS5 version is practically the same as the PS4 version, which AFAIK is only extra sounds on the DualSense. How It Stacks Up: I think it's main competitor would be Scott Pilgrim, which I think it beats unless you are a big Scott Pilgrim fan or need online/4-play co-op. More recently, it can be compared to Streets of Rage 4, which is a more complex game with a ton more content, but River City Girls is definitely more flashier and fun. It's a good time to be a beat-em-up fan.

Hours Played: 7 Hours Trophy Completion: 25/25 PLATINUM Worth My Time: Yes, but only if you like metroidvanias. Worth My Money: No, but it's on gamepass. What I Like: Graphics are great and controls are tight. Basic core game mechanics are solid and it has some interesting ideas. What I Dislike: Bland level and enemy design. Unbalanced weapons and spells make this game either extremely easy or annoying to play, depending on what you use. You can also be over-levelled or under-levelled, adding to the power imbalance. How It Stacks Up: Team Ladybug's previous effort with Touhou Luna Nights was a much better game. The stylish pixel art and good core gameplay remain, but it feels like it was rushed and not even play tested. All it really needs is some tweaks to turn into a great game, but as of right now, it's just a wasted potential ****. I still recommend it if you're really into metroidvanias or liked Touhou Luna Nights.

Hours Played: 9 Hours Trophy Completion: 43/43 PLATINUM Worth My Time: Yes, it's short. Worth My Money: Wait for sale. What I Like: Animation is great, sound is great. Almost feels like a kung fu flick, even if the graphics are a bit cartoony. Combat is pretty solid, but definitely fun. What I Dislike: For a game that you'll probably want to restart a lot from dying, it sure has long load times and unskippable cutscenes. This is pretty annoying considering its a PS5 game with a fast SSD. The camera is very bad and you won't be able to see anything at all, which really hampers combat. How It Stacks Up: I liked Sloclap's previous martial arts entry in Absolver better. It was more unique and had more variety. Even though I 100%'d Sifu, I didn't even use half of the skills. The core combat itself is good, but is no match for Sekiro, which does the deflection/parry mechanics better. Still, it is one of the best martial arts games by default from lack of competition. So if you need your kung fu fix, a fun time will be had.

Hours Played: 10 Hours Trophy Completion: 34/34 PLATINUM Worth My Time: Yes, it's short. Worth My Money: Yes, it's included with PS+ Extra. What I Like: Has tons of style, but also substance. The mechanics are really tight. Chaining moves together is so satisfying. As far as PS5 ports go, it's one of the few games so far that has a good ray tracing mode, but I still prefer the 120FPS mode. What I Dislike: AI can display erratic behaviour sometimes which can be frustrating, even with the instant respawn. Not the biggest fan of the skill system. Boss fights are extremely underwhelming. Quite a short game with a predictable story and anticlimactic ending. How It Stacks Up: I like it more than Mirror's Edge, which was about momentum and puzzle solving. This game is more about precision platforming and optimizing routes. It is a mix between Mirror's Edge and games like Super Meat Boy. In terms of ports of PS4 games go, this one is quite good and benefits greatly from the increased performance. Worth checking out since it's included in PS+ Extra and is a small download. You'll know after the first 30 mins whether you'll like it enough to see through the 7 hours it takes to beat the game.

Jun 20, 2022
Hours Played: 37 Hours Trophy Completion: 42/42 PLATINUM Worth My Time: Yes, it's short. Worth My Money: Yes, it's not a full price game. What I Like: Everyone talks about the graphics, but for me, it's the gameplay that is top notch. Rivals more serious AAA titles like God of War and Horizon with it's combat. I use the entire moveset except for one move (the jumping smash), which goes to show the intricacies of balance and design. It is far from a one-move button masher spamfest. What I Dislike: It's janky. Controls for certain actions are cumbersome. On top of that, the collision boxes are sometimes whack. The story is also quite lacking. It has some decent storytelling, but lacks depth and is full of holes. How It Stacks Up: My personal GOTY so far. That is a highly subjective opinion though, because I think some may not be able to overlook the jank and light story. It looks like a kids game on the surface, but is actually quite challenging. Some may even be put off by it's almost souls-like difficulty. It's not fair to compare it to a game like Elden Ring, which has layers and layers of depth; but Kena, while very simple, is extremely fun and that's what I play games for.

Hours Played: 300+ Hours (still playing) Trophy Completion: 42/42 PLATINUM Worth My Time: Yes, easily a 500+ hour game. Worth My Money: Yes, you definitely get your money's worth. What I Like: It's the souls formula in an open world and it works well. So if you enjoy both genres like me, then you're in for a treat. Mostly a familiar trek to those experienced, but adds just enough variety and new stuff to keep things interesting. What I Dislike: It's a PS4 (PRO) game through and through. Nothing is being taken advantage of specifically in the PS5 hardware. In fact, the performance can be quite subpar at times. Magic is OP in both PVE and PVP in this game. Great if you like magic, **** if you don't. How It Stacks Up: I still prefer the Dark Souls series. This game does some great things, but it also falls short in some aspects. Assets are reused quite a bit, despite the core gameplay being addictive. PVP is in a bit of a sorry state right now unless you use magic. Difficulty is more forgiving due to lots of checkpoints and less severe death penalties, but the game is still long and treacherous. It's a must play.

Hours Played: 24 Hours Trophy Completion: 13/56 (20%) Worth My Time: Yes, at least mainline. Worth My Money: Yes, but do note it goes on sale often. What I Like: Story is really captivating with never a dull moment. Much better pacing than the first game. Yagami is fleshing out to be pretty badass, but still not quite Kiryu levels. Gameplay, especially combat is also much better with more depth and variety. Some of the less interesting gameplay sections like tailing a target or taking spy shots are not as prevalent in the main line, which is better for me. What I Dislike: Some of the side characters aren't as well written in this game. Feels a bit too easy for me at times, with more handholding than previous games. For some reason, the world doesn't feel as vibrant. Eating for example is kinda pointless. How It Stacks Up: It's Yakuza all grown up. The first Judgment didn't quite resonate with me, but this one hit all the right notes. Offers a more mature setting than Like A Dragon, and also quicker to finish. It leaves little breathing room to do side quests, but that's how I like to play Yakuza games (mainline first, then all the open world stuff in Premium Adventure mode). For people new to Yakuza, personally I'd still recommend Like A Dragon, or even Yakuza 0 over this, unless you're really into detective stories.

On top of all that, gameplay is just straight up addictive. What I Dislike: A lot of pointless cutscenes when NPCs give you items gets annoying after a while. Minor gripe in an amazing game. But to be serious, some weapons and skills are unbalanced and kind of useless. How It Stacks Up: This is GOTY contender in a stacked year. I predict that they will delay GOW Ragnarok to 2023 just so there isn't as much competition. This game is that good. Too bad it released so close to Elden Ring. Looking forward to Horizon VR. I was already sold on PSVR2, but this game just cemented my purchase.
