i thought the movie was quite nice, mainly because of the reliable good acting work of bruce willis and that of mos def, who was quite a surprise by being the 'annoying' character and actually being likeable, which hasn't happened to me in a long time.

Limitless8
Feb 24, 2013
my greatest commendation of this movie is the fact that it sketches a very attractive scenario. who wouldn't want a pill that would make them super smart? the greatest flaw i spotted in the movie was the fact that there was virtually no character progression. the main character is lame and sad in the beginning, in the end, he may be wealthy and successful, but still lame. we never see what idea the movie had about drugs, or where the man character stands morally. of course, this presents no problem for people who want to have a good time, and i certainly did have a good time.

Memento9
Feb 22, 2013
th movie makes such excellent use of it's plot device, that it's hard not to praise. i couldn't believe how difficult it was to play a movie back in time. everyone has to see it just for that.

Killing Them Softly8
Feb 20, 2013
killing them softly reminds me of one of those 20th century classical books. what you basically have is a simple setup for the story, but you cloak the story in metaphor, a metaphor that you let one of the main characters explain at the end of the story. i like the way how it is executed in this movie, to the extend that the actual story isn't even that much fun to watch, because it is sacrificed for the metaphor. it makes me feel really smart for having read the 20th century classical books.

The Hangover8
Feb 9, 2013
these are the kind of clever plot devices that lead to the best comedy. that is really all there is to say about this movie.
Feb 8, 2013
Wanted7
Feb 8, 2013
it's quite much a pure action movie. the movie wisely ignores all deeper concepts, in favour of unrealistic gunfights. and sure, i like people shooting bullets that hit other bullets. that's why it gets a nice 7.

Happy-Go-Lucky5
Feb 2, 2013
the main reason i find this movie inadequate is the same reason it got made in the first place. because the main character is always optimistic. i find that in most of those cases, it makes her naive and shallow. and it's trying to prove the point that constant cheeriness is a positive factor. all the rest in the movie is adequate. i find the driving instructor to be a very competent character, even though the movie tried to paint him as the character we're supposed to frown at. but i guess it gets a 5 because i have some sort of inner hatred against giggling women.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey9
Jan 28, 2013
of course it's good. it's primarily good because it makes all the right choices at the right places. the book is much lighter than the lord of the rings in terms of content, so the movie must be too. where the lord of the rings fills up the holes between it's moments of epicness with more epicness, the hobbit fills it up mostly with humour. also, the modern technology helps the world come even more alive.

Up10
Jan 25, 2013
reviewers had warned me and exited me before i saw this movie, and i immediately saw it twice, and a third time with director's commentary. pixar's up is so unbelievably good that i am now turning it into a moviegoers duty to once see this movie as a sort of holy pilgrimage. why is it so epic? because it's got everything. action, beautiful set pieces and animation, and, on top of it all, and at the very core, because it's a deeply philosophical movie and a great teacher, and it parallels it's joy so much with it's sadness that it creates a memorable and heave experience. what i like most about the philosophical element is that all the characters are built around a theme, and they all mean something and have something to say, which makes every one stick to my memory. every person in their lifetime has to see up before dying.

A Thousand Words5
Jan 25, 2013
beginning to watch this movie, and it's poster, and eddie murphy's recent acting career, my expectations when watching one thousand words were quite low to begin with. and, unsurprisingly, the movie has few original funny moments. surely, you laugh a couple of times, but the rest is just joking about people in awkward situations. the thing that sort of 'saves' the movie for me is the fact that the arc of the main character goes somewhere, and it is sort of interesting to see how the relationships work out in the movie. and that is what saves it from being a complete disaster, because the comedy is balls.

i always wondered one thing when watching those b-movies that feature a lot of people getting sick because of evil companies with lots of money and the hero suing the company and winning because of his/her good heart: the side of the bad guys. because those movies tend to leave all the arguments of the bad guys at: they just want te make more money. here's something interesting: this movie plays from the viewpoint of the bad guys, and you know what? this one actually became a complicated character piece with lots of intrigue and businessmen in suits. and, my favourite, the good guys do not win in the end because they get lucky or because they love everybody so much. no, they do it the old fashioned way: by being smarter than the opposition.

RED8
Jan 18, 2013
the main plot gimmick of the movie never ceases to lose it's charm, and the actors give their best performances. of course, over the years, this kind of stuff must almost come natural to them now. now philosophical depth to be found, but a wonderful evening all the more.

Piranha 3-D6
Jan 7, 2013
there is art to be found in sex and violence. great movies have utilised those primal instincts of men to great effect. piranha is not one such movie. oh, the sex is there, and, to a lesser extend, violence, but this movie throws in one other factor in the mix that i don't like: gore. this movie is big on gallons of blood and chopped off ****, and i don't like that, because it's too easy. it's just blood and guts, it requires no talent in filmmaking at all. i'm not entertained by oceans colored red with blood, but if you are, than this is just the movie for you.

Ted7
Jan 7, 2013
knowing the guys that made this movie, i was expecting it to not take itself seriously. i was expecting it to give a roller coaster of constant jokes and here and there fragments of brilliance, monty python style. instead, i thought that the plot got too much in the way. the jokes that are in the movie are very funny, as i'd expected.
Jan 7, 2013
The Social Network8
Jan 7, 2013
the social network scores instant points by being a movie about nerds who conquer the world by being smarter than everyone. and that's what this movie is all about. it's trying to succeed where scott pilgrim failed, and that is the fact that there is simply not enough for normal-brained humans to see. but this movie immediately throws it in their faces that that what they consider to be probably the least nerdy thing of all is in fact the product of a mind of a very huge nerd. as you'll no doubt have guessed by now, i myself also conform to this subculture, and this how i like to see the world: run by competent nerds.

Brave8
Jan 7, 2013
i liked brave, but ot as much as i'd hoped. granted, the last pixar movie i've seen is up, and that one is in my top 10 movies ever seen. brave played out like a sort of standard fantasy adventure movie, but as one of those, it's still a good movie.
Jan 7, 2013
ParaNorman9
Jan 7, 2013
something i've seen in paranorman that i haven't seen in a long time: a plot twist that i didn't see coming. that upped my respect for the movie a lot. also the fact that the movie has some very interesting things to say about bullying. i liked it so much that i'm willing to forgive it for some of the more cliché moments.

Stranger Than Fiction8
Dec 29, 2012
the plot gimmick, that the main character is actually in a story that is being written, is very cleverly used for fun, leading to lots of previously unused jokes, and that is what i like most about this movie.

Let the Right One In9
Dec 8, 2012
this movie is brilliant. it is unique, and good at it, and those factors totally sold it to me. the best thing about it is the dynamic between the 2 main characters. the movie is also deeply disturbing like no movie i have seen in a long time, truly befitting of the title of horror. the fact alone that this was all happening to children adds an extra layer of the deep disturbance but it is not only a horror movie! the movie works great in general, and the drama was so real. lovers of drama will love this movie the most.

Skyfall9
Nov 18, 2012
skyfall is such an awesome movie, that i literally had a heart attack (sort of). i hated the previous bond movies, because i thought that daniel craig **** as james bond, because james bond is not really a character in the traditional sense. he's more of a tour through a magic land full of guns, one-liners, secret spies and lovely ladies. casino royale and quantum of solace tried to give him a back story, but ended up making him a gritty hardass that's no fun to watch at all. and that made me think that i could never love this new james bond. but after having seen this movie, i know that they weren't bad because they tried to give bond a back story, but because they made a poor attemt to give bond a back story. this james bond brings the same fun i remember from the classics, and the back story didn't impede that at all! in fact, it elevates the previous movies to a certain extend. skyfall is a great action movie, but it's especially good to finally have james bond back.

The Dark Knight Rises10
Jul 30, 2012
I heard from every critic I follow that the movie was good, but not great, and I must say that I disagree with those critics. all the plot inconsistencies they found, I did not. the movie has a kick-ass final act, and although Bane is not the Joker, I think he's still a scary and interesting villain.

Red Road5
May 23, 2012
i thought that the movie was well acted, and it had something going for it. i was hoping the tone would step up a little. i didn't have fun watching this movie. however much i agree with everyone with everyone who gave this movie an 8 or a 9, i guess i was just hoping to see another movie. wow. this s the first time i disagree with metacritic.

The Cabin in the Woods9
May 18, 2012
cabin in the woods is insane. insane in the way that it understands what i want to see. the third act especially was one of the most satisfying things i have ever seen on screen. if you love fun, you love cabin in the woods.
May 17, 2012
Mr. & Mrs. Smith8
May 17, 2012
i think it a great achievement for a film if it's equally much fun to see the characters talk to one another and shoot one another. screenplay is one of the best i've seen in a long time, and you can teach a class on the mixing of action and romance.

i thought the movie combined all the strong points of the movies it was based on. i didn't think i could make it any better.

Agora8
Apr 29, 2012
an interesting movie about faith and fundamentalism. i liked it because i agree with it. that is probably one's biggest reason to like the film. i also liked the characters and the science.
Apr 21, 2012
Burn After Reading9
Apr 21, 2012
i thought the film was very intelligent. the jokes are very smart, in a way hard to explain. the characters feel really natural. it is a movie that shows skill on the filmmakers' behalf. if it feels naturally good, it's a good film.
Apr 16, 2012
Wrath of the Titans7
Apr 16, 2012
because the film has good action and effect and concentrates primarily on those things, many people have linked it with the Transformers movies, but i think they're different. this one is better because you don't hate the main character. the story doesn't feel like it merely existed to connect the fight scenes, some work was actually put into it. the movie in the end achieves the goals it sets for itself.
Apr 16, 2012
The Hunger Games7
Apr 16, 2012
even though the movie was 2 hours long, it failed to show all the important details in the book. maybe splitting it in 2 movies would have been a good idea? also, the movie was way less fun to watch if you haven't read the book. and i think an important job of a film that was based on a book is for it to be good on it's own right, as with lord of the rings. i haven't read the books and i still had a great time watching those.
looking past these mistakes, i must admit that i liked the movie and was never bored watching it, but still, i had a feeling it could have been better.

Chronicle9
Apr 16, 2012
when i think about it, i can't think of a way to make the movie better than it already is. the camera gimmick becomes sort of annoying at the end of the film, but that's that. everything else is at it's best, even though it wasn't the kin of perfection that deserves a 10. the characters are well-rounded, the effects look good and there is a very clear message in the movie: if one were to obtain telekinetic power, his life would spin around.

Casino Royale7
Oct 16, 2011
the movie was entertaining, but the action is mostly what keeps it up. i don't really like daniel craig as James Bond. movie was good, but didn't really have the feeling of a James Bond movie.
Oct 16, 2011
Animal House8
Oct 16, 2011
this movie is mad fun. it's also very self-aware. it doesn't want to be deep. it's a crazy spectacle and i wouldn't want it any other way.

The Siege8
Oct 15, 2011
very interesting movie. i was at the edge of my chair almost all the time. i especially liked the acting in this movie.
Oct 15, 2011
A Civil Action7
Oct 15, 2011
the movie was interesting to watch, though it has the general flaw of 'based on a true story'-movies of the ending being kind of an anticlimax. but the characters were very believable and i watched it all the way through.

Oct 11, 2011
the movie started out good and played great, but it had a real is-that-it ending, and that spoiled the experience a bit for me.

The Dark Knight10
Oct 2, 2011
awesome movie! the complexity of this movie has left me breathless. you don't get more characterization and intelligent plots than Batman: the dark knight.

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs7
Oct 2, 2011
although the jokes aren't really funny, the characters ultimately work and i especially liked the ending. in the end, ice age 3 was fun.

i really liked where the plot of this movie went. it gives a realistic approach of typical superhero clichÃ's.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull8
Oct 2, 2011
i don't really get where all the negative buzz of this movie comes from. to me, it is as good as any other indiana jones movie.
Oct 2, 2011
Body of Lies7
Oct 2, 2011
i found the story of Body of Lies very intriguing. the representation of the conflict in the middle-east was very accurate. the movie is also very exiting. i was sitting on the tip o my chair almost all the time.

Kung Fu Panda10
Sep 30, 2011
it will take forever to find the flaws in this movie: there are none. the action is so spectacular, that it seems impossible to do by humans. that is where animation truly shines.
Sep 30, 2011
The Matrix8
Sep 30, 2011
i absolutely loved the spectacular future vision! it must have taken quite the imagination to come up with such a future for our earth. the action is unmatched too.

Hot Fuzz8
Sep 22, 2011
well-made action-packed comedy-detective story. breaks the buddy-cop routine up nicely. definitely worth seeing until the very end to see the story unfold.
Sep 17, 2011
Transformers: Dark of the Moon4
Sep 17, 2011
the action was ok, and the robots were ok, but the movie makes very much rookie mistakes. Michael Bay should really learn how to make interesting characters.
Sep 17, 2011
Evolution7
Sep 17, 2011
the movie was fun until the end. i liked how well it mixed comedy with science-fiction. the monsters were fun to watch and i laughed at the jokes of the main characters.
