A fun space "survival" game, loaded with humour and solid immersion. It takes a number of cues from Subnautica, but with a more jovial attitude, and less scary monsters.

The perfect follow up to LIMBO. It's a wonderful piece of artwork with remarkable pacing and atmosphere. If it were possible to improve upon their original formula, they managed it. A beautiful platformer with unique charm and incredible narration.

Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu!10
Nov 16, 2018
Let me preface this review with the fact that I own both a Blue and Yellow cart, both with 151 Pokemon on them. Yes, I have an original Mew, obtained through legitimate means. I own Crystal with max gen 2 Pokemon as well. The list of titles of games goes on. I have a Charizard and Chansey foil, too. And that Mewtwo you could only get from Nintendo Power. So yeah, safe to say I am a Pokemon fan. Let me also preface with the fact that this won't even be the only Switch game. If you aren't down for an entry level experience, there is a "core" Pokemon game representing the 8th generation coming along in 2019. There's no reason to bash this game in lieu of that. More ttraditional mechanics will return. The hate for this game is unwarranted. I can only imagine the review bombers are those who never even gave the game a chance. It's sad that this is what "reviews" have become. Never even giving a thing the chance to be what it is. And Let's Go, Pikachu IS a great game. A solid entry in the Pokemon game list, and certainly worthy of being the first, full-fledged big-screen Pokemon game. While it is lacking some of the modern conveniences and mechanics from some of the later titles, it's not without charm or depth. What this is, is a re-imagining of Kanto for a modern audience who, perhaps has only really heard of Pokemon via the wildly popular mobile game. The catch mechanics are similar in many ways, and it allows for (one-way) integration of Pokemon from your GO! account. That is where the similarities to the mobile game begin to part ways, however. Battles are more in the traditional sense, like the 1st gen we fell in love with. There are few new interesting mechanics, and mega-evolutions are still a thing, as well. While the challenge isn't as pronounced in the early game, it's not without the depth of team building that is suggested to be lacking. You can absolutely build and tweak individual stats, and more effectively at that, since you don't need to trade out abilities for things like CUT. It is a beautifully rendered image of Kanto, as well. The music is fantastic, too. There's a lot of nostalgia here for those of us who actually played Red/Blue/Yellow. It doesn't have the depth and complexity of X/Y or Ruby/Sapphire. Nor should anyone expect it to. No one should be surprised by what this game is, there have been plenty of early reviews and gameplay demos to give us a pretty good idea of what's going on here. Aside from that, the "core" game is still coming. So if that's what you're looking for, then avoid this, and don't downvote it just because you don't intend to buy it. If it's not for you, it doesn't make it bad, and Game Freak should be given credit for stepping outside of the box and changing things up a bit for the new generation. Don't sleep on it just because there are haters. Give it a shot if you've actually given a fair look and it still interests you.

Dark Souls Remastered9
Nov 6, 2018
A generally solid port of one of the best games ever made. It's not the prettiest of the Remastered versions, and the audio is a bit lacking, but anyone playing on a Switch should know that going in. It's not the most powerful of this generation, but its portability and ease of entry is unmatched. If you want the prettiest version, get it on PC and play it at 4K. So that said, this is Dark Souls as you expect it to be. It's the whole game, it's well optimized, framerate is consistent and you can take it anywhere. A great platform for a great game.

Kirby Star Allies9
Mar 17, 2018
I feel like the critics aren't going to get on board with this one. It leans a little heavily on it being a Switch game, it's sometimes a bit too easy, especially in the early game, and it's not the shock and wonder brought by Breath of the Wild and Odyssey. Nintendo may have set the bar a little too high on themselves, so their first party titles are going to have a tough benchmark to achieve. It doesn't take away from what this game is, however, and that is a great co-op platformer with all of that colorful and creative game play you should expect. As a single-player game, you will occasionally find yourself relying on NPC behavior to pass certain obstacles, but the NPCs themselves usually are not. That's where some of the ease comes from, in that NPCs tend to know what to do before you do. They will also sacrifice themselves to keep you alive. Its co-op appeal is high, however, and certainly encouraged. There are plenty of support roles that never leave you feeling like everything is in the hands of one player. There is an impressive variety of playstyles, abilities and even character animations as one would expect from a Nintendo first-party. As a Kirby fan, it's definitely a solid entry in the series. It feels like a Kirby game, it plays like a Kirby game, and yet still has some surprises and originality. Again, it's not the Odyssey or Breath of the Wild of the series, but it's not an unremarkable game by any means. A Kirby fan will certain enjoy it, and anyone looking for a co-op platformer which is quite playable with just the Joy Cons will have a ton of fun.

tldr; While in need of some polish, a well concerted effort from a small, indie dev who are clearly trying to shoot for the moon. The long review: Where the game falls short: audio. Mechs don't sound heavy. Not enough thunks, and booms. The rest of the audio is a bit more than atmospheric, and while not terrible, doesn't add much either. Where the game succeeds: Core mechanic. A fun crafting system that doesn't feel like work. A nice balance of action and exploration where mechs are a tool and not a means for unending material grind. Combat system could use a little work in terms of creating "impact" which you hit an enemy... but this also isn't a fighting game. It plays a lot more like an isometric ARPG, which isn't a bad thing. Finally, the dev team is EXTREMELY responsive on the forums. They are currently answering every single question and concern that pops up, which shows a lot of promise for future development. I have confidence that Whalebox will continue to shape this game into a well polished gem. All in all, it's hard not to recommend this title, despite its flaws. It has so much ambition and heart, I can forgive its early fuzzies. If you like the concept of this game at all, I'd say it's worth showing your support.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen10
Apr 27, 2016
This game is fantastic, front to back. Every negative review I've read is from someone who clearly didn't give the game more than an hour. Anyone who's played an in-depth RPG knows an hour is barely enough time to get past the character creation screen... and this game is no exception. Imagine Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age had a baby, and that baby was raised by Dark Souls and Shadow of the Collossus in the same house as The Witcher. Yet, somehow it still maintains its identity as its own thing. While it doesn't have a particularly strong story, it's well made up for with a sprawling, beautiful landscape with clever level design and monsters galore. Lastly... You see that big cyclops? You can climb it, and poke it in the eye. Can't find what you're looking for? Veer off the path. There are many elements that are not immediately obvious, but are quite rewarding when you learn how to use them. It's no surprise this gem from 2012 is once again a hit in 2016.

Dark Souls III10
Apr 17, 2016
It might just be THE definitive Souls game. A true return to what made the series great in the first place: the level design. It's not to say, however, they haven't also touched upon other aspects. The combat feels more refined, with both character and npc animations looking as smooth as ever. The haunting gothic atmosphere returns again to chill us with the deathless laughter that had us replaying the original over and over... and this one is no different. If you already love the Souls series, there's nothing to stop you from loving Dark Souls III. It's a shame there are those here just to complain about day one blues. Game works perfect for me. Have yet to experience a single crash, with streaming on, and through SteamLink. Some people may just need to learn to either a) wait for the day 1 or 2 patch that always happens or b) clear some hard drive space from all that porn.

From Early Access right through release... always a pleasure to play. It fits somewhere in between Diablo and Path of Exile while finding its own space to exist in a remarkable fashion. This game has something no AAA title has been able to deliver in years... Charm. It's just dripping, oozing and overflowing with it. This is a game with so much character and truly dedicated attention to detail, I wish I could give it a hug, and tell it how special it is. It's an ode to that marvelous old farming game which sings with a delightful glee that reminds you so much of why you pine for the founding era of game design. A one-man developer has produced what feels like it could have been done with an army of artists and designers. Bravo, ConcernedApe.

Grand Theft Auto V0
Jun 14, 2015
This game gets a 0 for selling out in the worst way possible. Paying to win completely ruins the spirit of what this legacy franchise used to stand for: doing whatever you want. Unlimited cash and weapons were a cheat code away. Want a tank to drop out of the sky? No problem. Turning the in-game currency into a blatant money grab is the lowest form of degradation to the brand, especially considering it was sold as a "new" game even though it had already been out for nearly 2 years. Rockstar does not deserve praise for successfully porting a game and asking for more money to have fun.

I'm giving this a 10 because I'm not exactly sure why people are so hastily against it. It's definitely a bit buggy, but not out of the ordinary for an MMO of this size. It's got a lot of things going for it, and its size is definitely one of them. It needs care and development overall, but the in-game GMs are VERY active and very quick to squash bots and hackers on site and will reward you for accurate reporting. It's clear that the developers want this game to succeed. It's big, beautiful and better than ESO, that's for sure. I'm still playing for free and don't see why so many people think it's "pay2win." You can have a lot of fun as a free player and not even think about paying unless you want to get serious about playing the game. At which point... why wouldn't you pay? I think people are misunderstanding what is necessary to run an MMO. It's hard, expensive and time consuming. There must be incentive to pay, and I honestly wish more games would go back to an exclusive subscription plan. As someone who played Ultima, EVE and City of Heroes for several years, I don't see why you shouldn't expect to dish out for the full experience. Don't be afraid to pay for a game you like, and you will be rewarded for it. Stop expecting great MMOs to be free, and you might actually have some fun.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor10
Sep 30, 2014
Shadow of Mordor plays like a cross between Assassin's Creed and Arkham City and that's not at all a bad thing. The combat is inspired yet refined. The Nemesis System is a unique addition to any game which actually sparks emotion from the player and challenges you to punish your enemies. Additionally, the game is f**king beautiful. Every year WB publishes a game that seems to push the limits of what to expect visually and aurally from games and Shadow of Mordor continues the trend. Great combat, rewarding gameplay, compelling story and unbelievable visuals. What's not to like?

Bunch of negative nancys around here. Play the game before you give it a negative rating. I don't see why people think they need to bomb a AAA title because it doesn't cater to their every whim. It's fun, and fast paced. If you like that, you'll like Titanfall.

Titanfall is better than a cup of coffee in the morning to wake you up. Does it have a great campaign? No. Does it have the best graphics ever? No. Does it have a single player game? No. But where it excels is in full-throttle-high-octane-seat-of-your-pants-all-the-cliches-I-can-think-of action. To say this game is fast-paced would be an understatement. We can sit here and debate about game modes, OP or UP weapons, how high the texture resolution is... blah blah blah... or... we can strap in and play a game because it's a whole lot of fun. I prefer the latter.

Limbo is truly a return to the platformer. While short, I found it has a lot of replayability. I've gone through it a number of times, now, and it's still a masterpiece every time I play it. It has a real challenge missing from most games these days, and the gameplay is simplicity at its finest. It's not skimping on the sensory experience, either. Both the sound and visuals are stellar to say the least. If you like it, you won't complain about how it's, "too short." You will play it again and again. Playtime does not = time from beginning to end. It's = to how many hours you sit in front of it. Did you only play through Mario Bros once?

Quite possibly the most twisted game ever made. It has simple graphics, and a simple concept: but don't be fooled by its simplicity. It is not for the feint of heart or the casual puzzle gamer. This game requires a high level of thinking, and is absolutely unforgiving. You will die. Many times. You will die in others' houses, you will die in your own house, and sometimes you will want to break your keyboard. But for the twisted few, who will brave into others' vaults, and set truly rage inducing traps of their own, it is extremely rewarding and unlike any other game you will ever play.

Firaxis and 2K deserve a Nobel prize for restoring faith in modern PC game expansion. Enemy Within is complete, polished, and full of goodies that not only expand the game, but actually improve on what was already a great product. It's still a tough game that isn't afraid to be challenging, yet it throws a diverse assortment of interesting upgrade paths, cool weapons, super soldiers and much more new content than most of the so-called "DLC" packages we see these days. This might just be the best Expansion Pack since Lord of Destruction. Well worth the price of entry.
