Fulfill a sci-fi fantasy by becoming the Captain of your own starship! Don't expect great graphics, but do except to lose many hours to FTL and expect to lose your ship ... a lot.

Kickstarter has accomplished its mission in this one, giving the opportunity to an original, non-mainstream title to go public and meet its well-deserved success. Especially for sci-fi fans, it’s a no-brainer; buy this game at once and live the life of a courageous pilot that only has one mission: survival. [November 2012]

FTL is an interesting way to combine space adventure with roguelike mechanics. The core idea is simple - survive until the very end while collecting as many resources and weapons as possible. Over time, the gameplay can start to feel a bit repetitive, but the presence of more than 20 different ships helps keep things fresh. Each ship plays differently and requires its own approach, forcing you to adapt your strategy every run. The game isn’t something groundbreaking, but it can easily take away several hours of your time.

The ten bucks it costs to get into Faster Than Light won't be money well spent for every gamer out there, but if you are looking for a challenging roguelike strategy game with some intriguing ship management and light RPG systems built into it, then you owe it to yourself to check out this game.

This game is one of the most original and amazing games ever created. I wish the devs would hire the guy who made the Multiverse mod and create FTL 2. Playing on the PC is slightly less fun than on the iPad as the controls are even more smooth, but there is no Multiverse on the iPad. Please make multiverse for iPad. Please make FTL 2.

Fight or flee? Should I buy this weapon or hire this crew member? Do I hit the weapon control first or the shields? Every decision is a test of my judgment, and winning isn’t just about skill—it’s about a bit of luck too. I love that I can pause anytime and issue orders, completely removing the need for twitch reflexes.

Polished and involving, FTL spews superb sci-fi adventures like a cornered Mantis boarder spews hot formic acid.

In terms of gameplay design, difficulty level and visuals it's a true indie game. But once you get over this fact, it's a great mix of spaceship simulation and a roguelike. [12/2012, p.83]

A well-made strategic indie game that lets you dawdle the hours away by building your own vessel for the sole purpose of watching it being destroyed. That's how this game is. However, you will be forced to begin again and again because of the game's pleasantness and adrenaline burst. The game is also being offered for a laughable price, so all of you with a dream to have your own Enterprise, Serenity or Millenium Falcon should definitely purchase this one.

Like Spelunky before it, survival often depends on what you're carrying, and when you happen across life-prolonging shops and lucky weapon drops. But FTL is a less masterful game than Derek Yu's cave diver, throwing more chance into the mix.

BEST. GAME. EVER. MADE.!!!! I hope god makes a special place for the creators. Only comparable to BG3, don't try to convince me otherwise.

Fun roguelike but very punishing RNG and the final boss is completely out of tune with the difficulty of the rest of the game.

I don't understand all the 9 and 10/10, just looks like others rogue-lite and strategy games, disapointed

I don't have a lot of experience with difficult games, since I'm mostly a casual gamer. I was looking forward to the "space simulator" part of this game; managing a spaceship seemed quite appealing. Instead, the game puts far more emphasis on the "roguelike" part of this game. In order to do well in this game, you have to know exactly what to do in every situation, have the skill to do so, and of course befriend the forever hostile RNG. If anything goes wrong, you're doomed to die, and you lose all the progress in your entire game. The tutorial gave a basic tour of the interface and showed me how combat works, and left me confident enough to start an "easy" game. Little did I know that "easy", "normal", and "hard" translated to "hard", "harder", and "hardest". Just a couple of jumps in, the rebel fleet has already taken control of the start location, my pilot gets trampled to death by tiny blue horses, and I get blown up by the first enemy I run into because I can't penetrate its shields. I'm very much regretting buying this game, and I would recommend NOT to get it unless you're prepared for an extremely difficult and frustrating game.
SummaryYou manage the Kestrel and its crew as you explore the galaxy. Strategic, real-time combat involves managing power between essential systems and choosing which enemy systems to target. Meanwhile, you control your crew to keep the ship functioning and fight off intruders. The combat is difficult but, being a "roguelike-like" gam... Read More
