The Wonderful 1015
Oct 9, 2016
I went into The Wonderful 101 with Bayonetta 2 and Metal Gear Rising fresh in my mind. But what i got was just a mess. First off for whatever reason Nintendo/Platinum insists that the gamepad is used. During certain segments you will go inside a building and the perspective will change to the screen on the gamepad. You can use the - button to change between which screen shows what, and even show the map/screen on the lower right corner but this is just a hassle. Also the game doesn't start you with any sort of dodge ability. This is acquired from the store fairly early if you check it out, but before you get to the store the first mission on normal and higher can be frustrating. Enemies will attack you with laser precision and with the lack of a targeting system it makes it hard to focus on enemies. Now I'm sure they did this because of the sure size of some of the battles, but seeing how you can be fighting one large enemy off to the left, and another will charge you from the right and takes away 15% of your health in one hit can start to get irritating. Some enemies can also have shields, allowing you only to attack from the rear makes it difficult to kill some of the larger enemies. The story is alright, but lacks some of the writing that Viewtiful Joe and Bayonetta had (the art is very reminiscent of Viewtiful Joe). Overall the game play is not as intuitive as I would of hopped, and creating weapons can get annoying when you're trying to creating something in the short amount of time they allow you (you need to draw out the item with the right joy stick) For myself I didn't think the game was terrible, but I also was not having any fun while playing it.

Killzone: Shadow Fall6
Oct 9, 2016
As a launch title for the PS4 it really shows off what the PS4 can do. It serves as a great tech demo for the system and gives me high hopes for the future. With that that said I haven't played a Killzone since the first one on PS2, and i never thought that game was all that great ****. While this one has bettered some of the things i thought the original had faulted with, it still does a poor job of creating a truly "next gen" experience. There were a lot of frustrating moments in the game that served little more then a test of patience. Also for an odd design choice the starting rifle you start with cannot be dropped. If you play on any of the higher difficulties and use the weapon a lot you will be finding yourself stuck with one empty weapon and struggling to find another weapon to use for the next wave of enemies. Killzone has the illusion **** weapon variety, but you'll mostly only come across Heligan weapons and most of them just feel the same. I would go from rifle to rifle, and without maybe the difference in attachments (grenade launcher, scope, ect) the guns just felt the same. The story it self is engaging enough, but feel lack luster compared to other modern shooters. It kept me going but of course the end left me in a "wtf just happened" moment" and a sequelbait ending. The opening of the game does a well enough job to set up the game so that you don't have to play the previous 3 games to understand what is going on, but the reason that the Heligan are on the IAS home world is just baffling. Overall it is slightly above average as far as other modern shooters that are available. If you love FPS games and want to see what type of graphics the PS4 can do then it might be worth a buy at its reduced price.

Destiny: Rise of Iron5
Sep 27, 2016
I had purchased Destiny / The Dark Below / House of Wolves day one and after hours of gameplay I dropped the game due to lack of content. I had not played for a year but figured id give it another chance with The Taken King and Rise of Iron. While The Taken King seemed like a decent chunk of content (at least for the price i payed of 20 dollars) this expansion once again is another disappointment, especially for 30 dollars. The story starts to pick up, then just ends abruptly, and there doesn't seem to be as many side quests as The Taken King had either. The new PvP mode doesn't seem that great ether, just a small variant on the basic slayer that they have already have. I would of liked to see a new objective based PvP mode. Overall this expansion builds on a incomplete game, and for the price doesn't feel worth it. I have been having fun playing it just because the gun play in the game has always been great, and some of the balancing they seemed to have done over the past 2 expansions make the PvE more enjoyable, but i cannot recommend this expansion to my friends that i had originally started the vanilla game with. Maybe for a reduced price of 10 or 5 dollars it might be worth it, or if the base game had included more, but as it stands everything in the game thus far and more should of been what was included with the base game. 5/10

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End8
May 26, 2016
Uncharted 4 is a great ending chapter to Drakes story. Naughty Dog has done an amazing job wrapping up the story for most if not all of the main characters, and possibly even setting up a new character to start a new game with. As far as story goes, it feels great. I love all the little cut scenes as Drake as he copes with a normal life. You can really tell that him and Elena miss the adventurous life they both used to live. There is a scene early on in the game where you two sit down on a couch and just talk about things. This may seem slow to some but it felt awesome to me. They do a great job setting up both the story to come and in the past. Now as far as the plot driver, your brother, who has mysteriously never been mentioned before, I felt he was a bit forced in as a character, but Naughty Dog does set up a good reason as why he hasn't been around. Even so he does feel weak as a character to previous characters in the last 3 games. The villain of the game i felt was the best of the 4 games, though the previous villains always felt like weak characters as well. As far as the game play, it is fun but i feel inventive. Something about the cover just doesn't feel right after playing another Naughty Dog game, Last of Us. Sometimes you will just get stuck on cover when you want to move around to a different side or switch from one to another. I wish this was improved on from the previous games. Another issue with the cover in this game in particular is that they really wanted to show off how great this game looks, and trust me it looks breathtaking. Almost every cover that you come across in the game is destructible. Why is that bad you ask me? Well read on about some of the harder difficulties below. The gun play feels just as good as Last of Us or other third person shooters like Gears of War, but what kills the action for me is the AI. Both your companion and the enemy AI are very unimpressive. Most enemies will stand out in the open just shooting you, or lobbing grenade after grenade. As the game progresses you will come across shot-gunners and mini-gun guys. They are heavily armored and all they will do is walk slowly to you, even in the open. Other enemies will just rush you, sometimes with more powerful weapons and easily kill you. Most sections you will start out on one of the destructible covers i had mentioned earlier and with the limited ammo you have you cant really take your time as one side you are being pushed and the other just endlessly shoots your cover quickly destroying it. Now don't get me wrong, i love a challenging game, and of course there are easier modes that can be selected, but the actual AI does not try to get you out of cover by moving cover to cover and flanking you, they more just run at you and continually shoot at you. Another disappointment is that they had added a grenade throwback feature in Uncharted 3, but it is missing once again here. This would of been a really nice feature as enemies will throw them at you....endlessly. A few things they have added is a rope to swing to new cliffs, making you feel like Tarzan, and a pick that you can stab into some cliffs to climb up, but it doesn't feel as open as the climbing pick from Tomb Raider. Overall, the reason I play the Uncharted games were for the story, characters, visuals and environment, but the combat leaves something to be desired. The combat is not bad, I just feel it was done better in other Naughty Dog and third person shooters. If you have played the first 3 or enjoy fantastic characters and story, this is a must by for PS4 owners. 8/10

Dark Souls III9
May 26, 2016
Dark Souls III is a fantastic finale to an overall fantastic series. The game is a fusion of what seems to be dark souls 2, demon souls and Bloodborne. From Software has taken what they have learned in their previous installments of "Souls Series" games and have created an amazing experience. From Software has done a great job designing Lothric from the shacks in the Undead Settlement, to libraries and towers in Lothric Castle. The game has a fantastic pacing to the game and even the exploration is good. The bosses have taken a note from Bloodborne, now having multiple stages to the encounter. You will get a boss to either 50% or kill them just for them to come back stronger then ever for round two. Most bosses bring out that excitement when fighting them, trying to figure out their pattern and when to attack, but some feel dull and lackluster, but fortunately it is more of earlier bosses then later. Another change From Software has changed is the death system, as you will die...a lot. As in previous games you would slowly lose maximum health as you hollow until you use an item to reverse it. Here you are unkindled, one to bring the lords back to their thrones. When you die, you will not hollow unless you start a specific quest. Instead when you die you lose your cinders and your max health will decrease to its normal amount. To recover from this, you can either kill a boss (either in your own game or another's) or use a ember. Embers are hard to come by in your own game as they are a limited resource, but when you kill a boss in coop play, not only do you recover your cinders, you will also normally get an ember. It seems that this really encourages coop play as much as the pvp. Unfortunately though, the game is not perfect. It suffers from some of the dull bosses i had mentioned before, but also a few slowdowns in more intense areas just as Bloodborne before it. Besides its few minor flaws, the game is fantastic, a must buy for any From Software or RPG fan. 9/10

Bloodborne9
May 16, 2016
As being a new player in the "Souls" universe, i was somewhat intimidated by the difficulty i have heard time and time again, but needless to say as soon as i bought a PlayStation 4 I went out and got this game. If you are new to the series as I was, do not let it intimate you. It is a fantastic game that anyone who loves HP Lovecraft or difficult action games must try. I had played the game about a year after its release so i was unable to play with others much, but even so the single player story is fantastic...even if a bit cryptic. It seems to play homage to classic games such as Zelda and Castlevania where the game does not tell you everything and respects the player enough to figure it out with the clues provided. The Key is to speak to everyone and explore everywhere. The story is pretty good, though for myself i had to look to other sources (forums and wikis) to learn more about what was going on since stated above it is somewhat cryptic, but it is addicting. I wanted to know more about all of the characters, both the good and the bad (evil). The gameplay is what makes this game great. It is very precise and accurate. You cant spam your attacks here because if you hit your attack 3 times, you will be attacking 3 times. You need to take things slow and analyze the situation. Enemies have attack patterns and have windows for you to attack them. Watch them and learn there moves and soon you will be a legendary hunter! Some of the few issues with the game id say is the camera for one. Its fine most of the time, but some of the faster bosses will zoom by you and you will lose them quickly just for them to run you over a moment later. Another issues is some of the areas (especially places with multiple enemies in one area) will test the limits of your PS4. Framerate dips and chugging moments make things difficult if you are trying to stay alive. Another slow point for me personally was the chalice dungeons. They reused some bosses from the base game and really didn't add much for me. I only went through them for the trophy. Overall it is a fantastic game that should be picked up if you have a PS4, its in my opinion one of the reasons to own a PS4. 9/10

The Last of Us Remastered10
Mar 15, 2016
Wow The Last of Us is a game that make you feel emotions that you didn't even think possible. Kidding of course but it is a very touching game that will tug at your heart strings. It starts off early by letting you know just what you are in for. I never played the original for PS3, so I am not sure on the comparison for the graphics but this is a great looking game. There are a few small complaints as to why doesn't the bushes or grass even budge when interacting with them, but it doesn't take away from the great overall scenery. The character development is fantastic, showing both Joel And Ellie feeling a great range of emotions both about the situation and their pasts. Naughty Dog sets up a great world for this to set up, with not as much as I would of liked for exploration as most areas are pretty liner but I guess that why games like Day Z exist. Both the interactions with the infected and humans feel intense. There was a section of the game where I wont go too much into detail not to spoil it, but I had sneaked around all the infected to come to a door that was blocked. You had to move the object which made a lot of noise attracting the whole room and got my heart racing. I had no idea if I was going to make it out of the room or not. This game is filled with these moments, and also filled with moments where you and Ellie are out in a field and talk about something. The game does a great job in building both characters up. Also this game comes with the Left Behind DLC, which is a great addition as both a prequel and some information that happens during the main game. The only other complaint I had was with some of the AI. There was stealth sections where you would barley move just to sneak up on your attacker, not making a single noise just for them to quickly spin around and start shooting like they had heard you or seen you. This doesn't happen often, but it always resulted in a death for me as I was playing on a harder difficulty. Other then that, this is a masterpiece ****. Anyone who loves story and character driven games and obviously owns a PS3 or PS4, this is a must buy.

No More Heroes8
Mar 15, 2016
If you own a Wii and love hack and slash games, this is a must own. The game follow Travis Touchdown as he battles his way to the number one assassin in Santa Destroy. The game has a very cool cell shaded art style that has helped it age quiet well. The game also did a fantastic job with the Wii remote. Myself only have the Wii U with the new Motion Plus controller but it works great. There isn't much as far as the motion control goes, you are able to aim high or low to change from a high a low stance which keeps things simple. The game also has a really cool retro game theme going on, a lot of sounds, visuals and themes play tribute to retro games. Some of the voice acting is cheesy and the game play can be repetitive. Most bosses are quiet similar with some variety with attacks, but all normal enemies are basically the same. You have three types. Unarmed, ones with a weapon (some type of pipe) and sword wielders. The story itself is pretty wacky, but fun. They did a great job with both the sound effects and music, I would like to get my hands on the soundtrack. Overall if you have a Wii or Wii U and really enjoy hack and slash games, this is a must buy, though they are a bit harder to find now a days.

Wolfenstein: The New Order8
Mar 7, 2016
Wolfenstein: The New Order is a great addition to the Wolfenstein games and fps genre as a whole. The game starts as an epic assault on the **** stronghold during WWII, but things go south and you end up injured. Years later you wake up from your injuries to find that the **** have won the war and now rule the world. Its up to you to resume your assault on the **** with the help of other resistance fighters to take back what the **** have taken from everyone. The setup for the story is great, and for the most part the character you play (William J. Blazkowicz) is fun, though he can feel a bit flat sometimes. I played through the game twice, and the ability of making decisions within the game that will impact the characters and story is a great addition and replay value. As far as gameplay goes, I played on PC with both controller via steam big picture and mouse and keyboard, and some of the button mapping on the controller are a bit odd. The grenade button is also switch weapon. If you play on PC I would recommend using mouse and keyboard. Playing though the game on the Uber setting can be somewhat frustrating/challenging as well. For the most part the game gives you a good challenge for this setting but some sections felt cheap as you can go from full armor and health to dead in a matter of seconds. You might move slowly down the hallways with little to no cover and suddenly 3 soldiers run out and kill you and you have to start 15 minutes back, or have to pick up all the loot you just had spent 5 minutes running around the room picking up. This to me felt not so much as a challenge, but cheap if you were not expecting it to happen. There are some moments where you will be moved from one location to another via cut scene and be thrown into an area with no cover. Shotguners will slowly approach you with a lot of armor and will instantly kill you if they get too close. Overall the game is fun, but can seem a bit cheap sometimes when the checkpoints are before you spent all that time picking up that armor and ammo. The only real negative i had about this game was the final boss. I will not spoil anything here but on higher difficulties its more of a frustration with high density of smoke and particle effects filling the room making it even hard to see enemies. Last issue I had with the game is as far as the gun pallet went, it was very boring. Shotguns, pistols, assault rifles. There was no tesla guns or any wacky guns i was hoping for. They seemed to go with a lot more grounded game including guns, characters and story, and i really liked the direction they went, i just wish there was a bit more diversity in the guns. Overall good story and great gunplay. This game for me falls into the same category as Shadow Warrior where it had only a single player experience. I feel if this game came out as a 40 dollar game it would of been fantastic. But now as the cost has come down I would say this is a must own for any FPS or Wolfenstein fan.

Mortal Kombat X0
Mar 7, 2016
This review is for the PC version of the game as it is the only version I have played. I hate to write a bad review for Mortal Kombat X since it could of been a great game, but less then a year later WB has completely abandoned support for the game. Mortal Kombat XL, the Kombat Pack and Netcode patch will not be available essentially killing the game. The port itself is not great either, which plays on the bad Netcode that all 3 versions have. Some levels have been poorly optimized and seem to perform poorly on a lot of different computer **** PS4 And XBO versions will be getting this patch making online play better lowering latency and stabilizing connections. The story is alright, but a disappointment compared to the Mortal Kombat 2011 reboot, which it had a lot to live up to. This seems pretty standard practice for WB to completely abandon a port for PC users. This will be the last WB game I purchase.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection8
Mar 7, 2016
Just got the Uncharted PS4 Bundle and played through all 3 games. This is the first time playing through the games so i will not compare the collection to the individual games for PS3. The menu for the game makes it very easy to switch between all 3 games without forcing you to close out of the app all together and relaunching it. You can at any time switch to a different game if you were wanting to play either of the other 2 games. The game play in my opinion is what really holds this game back, at least in the first 2 games from being a masterpiece. Some of the cover mechanics do not seem to be intuitive. This coming from a game that was released after Gears of War on Xbox 360 just didn't feel right with the cover. In the first game you cannot move on cover while aiming, and some cover in all 3 games have a break (IE 2 boxes not exactly side by side) where you cannot move between both boxes. A lot of walls are larger then the model appears making for a lot of invisible walls. One of the biggest issues I had while playing on a harder difficulty is when you clear out about 2-3 waves of dudes, another wave will come from where you entered the room/area. This happens multiple times making combat seem very repetitive and stale. The gun pallet is diverse but you'll find yourself only really having between 2-4 options throughout the game in any given area. Once you move into a new area, and a new weapon is introduced, the old one will not be available in that area (once you come across the m4, the ak-47 is no longer dropped by enemies. The story and characters are what really hold up this game. Besides one of the people who you are trying to beat to the treasure in the second game, there is not a single badly written character, and really the only reason I did not like this person is because I did not know enough about them as to why they are doing what they are doing. There are a few plot drivers that I thought that didnt make sense, but it is an action video game not a drama so nothing too major to mention. Drake and his band of misfits are so greatly acted. They introduce Cutter in Uncharted 3, and I have yet to see him in the new Uncharted 4 trailers but i hope they bring him back. Everyone did a great job with portraying each character. Overall the game has a few shortcomings as far as cover and game play, but the story and characters are fantastic and are a great reason to play the game(s)

As far as fun hack and slash games goes, this is pretty average. Fighting enemies is pretty fluid but simple. There were some points in the game where the camera wants to fight you, but its rare. Nick and Juliet make a pretty funny pair. What really kills the game for me is some of the mini games. I don't know why but i got stuck on the baseball for a good 30 minutes. The other games were easy, but dull and unoriginal. Overall its a pretty over the top game with alright dialog and characters, the combat is simple but fun.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess9
Dec 29, 2014
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is one of the few games to go out and buy a 300 dollar gaming system to play. While playing the game, it seems to follow a much darker and edgy version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which how can you not love that? When starting the game, the requirement of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck was a bit of a disappointment since i have the classic pro controller, but the controls were not quite as bad as i would of expected. Controls overall feel great, both in your human form and wolf form. There are a few minigames like the one on a snowboard where controls feel wonky and you can easily make a small turn and end up hitting the way. Swimming feels weird, when wearing the Hero's Tunic A is to "sprint" or swim faster, but wearing to Zora's Tunic A is to dive. I found out multiple times that I'm just trying to swim faster and i will accidentally dive when I didn't mean to. Once you get used to it, it isn't too bad. Overall the controls with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck aren't all bad, i just wish support for the classic pro controller was added. Storywise it was fantastic. I was so hooked. My first playthou was over 40 hours without even doing the side quests or collecting heart pieces. The shear amount of dungeons and content actually surprised me since i had just finished Wind Waker HD and it felt a bit...empty? Going though some of the dungeons and hearing some of that Ocarina of Time blew my mind. All the new music is also very good used throughout the dungeons. You spend a lot of time building up and devolping around Zant, i wish they had give you a bit more time and development with Ganondorf, the final confrontation, while good, felt a bit rushed. Overall the new twilight realm felt amazing. Going between the light and dark world was awesome. Even the ending felt awesome, and sad at the same time. Overall this is a great addition to the Zelda library. 9/10

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes6
Dec 22, 2014
Ground Zeroes is a nice little backstory on the upcoming Phantom Pain. You play as Big Boss/Naked Snake as you infiltrate a base to get back 2 operatives of motherbase. As the missions progresses you start to realize things may not go the way you planned. The game is a nice little taste of the new up and coming MGS V Phantom Pain, though its not by itself a standalone game. This is at best a 15 dollar DLC, not a 30 dollar stand alone. While playing though the first mission i thought the game was actually done pretty well. Its classic MGS style gameplay. Big boss brings a few new toys (even more in Phantom Pain) to get the job done, and they have switched from the classic gun pickup style for more realistic 2 guns and a pistol. At the end of the mission i actually thought it was a great game, till i realized that all missions take place in the same boxed off area. Each mission takes you back to do different objectives during different times of the day, but always to the same area. You would think they would wise up and know you are coming. This game is fun, but as a 5-15 dollar DLC, not a full blown 30 dollar game. The game is a tech demo for the new MGS V game, but not in its own right a full game. The game does not even include many of the new game like your prosthetic arm and the all new buddy system, the game is only to show off the graphics of the game, which in my opinion is not worth 30 dollars. The game should of been released with MGS V as a 5-15 dollar DLC or Day One edition of the full game. Overall the game is fun, and it is worth a pickup at 15 dollars or less. The main mission is a good addition to the story and the submissions are fun even if they all take place in the same area. It will give you a good feel of the full game that is to be released next year. 6/10

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City3
Nov 5, 2014
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City takes you back to the RE: 2 story and setting during the initial outbreak in Raccoon City but you take the controls of Umbrella Spec Ops tasked to clean up this mess and cover up the incident. Sounds great right? That's what i thought too. This was the last game I purchased that I was unsure about and went into it blind. It also turned me off paid games for awhile, going back to free to play games. Pros of the game? What pros? The idea in and of its self i thought was amazing. Its a true spinoff of the series. Resident Evil as of late has totally abandoned its survival roots and went PURE action. This has been very disappointing in the series, and the idea of an action spinoff series like this I believe is a great idea. It would of given fans a different take on the game series following a part of the story a lot of the fans find the best part of the whole series. Unfortunately though the idea was great, at least in my eyes, they executed it completely wrong. Cons? Everything. The movement and combat feels awful. It reminds me a lot of 3rd person shooters from the PS2 era. Nothing seems polished or finalized, it honestly feels like an alpha of a future game. Some of the voice acting is alright, but most of the time it is a comedy show running and you cant help but to laugh. Dialog is awful and the story is just a joke. You eventually come into contact with a T1 Tyrant, which you cannot kill. You basically just run from it. Most classes are worthless, and people will be fighting trying to play Lupo, Vector and Spectre. And the end of the game you get the choice to save or kill Clair and Leon, the most generic choice ever and nothing is explained before or after. The game is bundled with a DLC that I never even bothered to download, which i believe covers the government ops that are shown in the triple threat trailer, basically giving you 2 bad games for the price of one. Overall the idea i think is great to have this type of a spinoff, but it needs to be done properly. The combat needs a huge overhaul to fix, a proper story with good voice actors. Fix these HUGE issues and they could have had a good spin off series. If rereleased by a different developer, i would try it again. All i can say from this game and the new DMC game is Capcom, keep your babies IN HOUSE. 3/10

Titanfall7
Nov 5, 2014
I purchased Titanfall day one for $60 and put in about 60 to 70 hours of gameplay and here are my thoughts. Playing the game reminds me a lot of Call of Duty, which some small changes. Now before I get into my review i think the gamestyle of COD has been over used and the formula has not been changed at all between the 6 games that they have released. Each game has added some small additions, but the core gameplay has stayed the same, which i believe is a downfall of a multiplayer game. The Titanfall gameplay pulls heavily from its predecessor, but does attempt to be different. Movement (walking and running) feels about the same and combat feels exactly the same. Moving though the buildings though feels new, being able to jetpack jump and easily grab onto ledges and windows to pull yourself in feels great. Wall running feels fluent and straight out of a Prince of Persia game. Titan movement and combat feels somewhat unique in its own way. They make the guns feel more powerful but a bit more clunky but still easy to use. Movement feels right in the titan, replacing jump with a dash to quickly move out of combat. Huge buildings will be your best friend for cover. Now lets talk about the pros of this game. Games are played 6v6 on huge maps, which seems like it would be a downfall and kill the pacing of the game, but different types of AI are added in as sort of a buffer to keep the pace correct and the action going. You will see drop pods for Marines and Spectre which you will be able to kill and in the case of Spectres take control of. This gives it the illusion of being huge games but with keeping the titan limit of 12 down. To call your titan down you will need to wait for your bar to fill up or get kills/objectives to fill up the bar quickly. The maps of the most part all feel balanced and correctly paced. The combat feels CODish but still enjoyable. Now for the cons. Getting the game day one, being able to finish the campaign (the campaign is a joke) was fairly easy. I quickly blew through both sides. Two of my friends got the game about a month late for a discounted price and we tried to play thought the campaign to get all the titans unlocked for them, but it was brutal. People would leave and the game would reset you back to the start even though you were 4 or 5 missions in. This makes it very difficult to complete one let alone both sides. Took several weeks but we were able to finish it. That being said can I ask a totally legitimate question, why even bother with the campaign? You play the same game types on the same levels with some cheesy voice acting that you will not even pay attention to. Why play it then? Because you have to play them at least once to unlock all the titans for the custom load-outs. I cant even image people who get the game 8 months late what they are going though to try to complete this. Next would be the price. Respawn entertainment told everyone before the game was released that it was MULTIPLAYER ONLY, so no one (including myself) should complain about what you get, but i just wish it was released with a lower price tag, especially since it was reduced about a month after launch to $45 i believe. The game would of been a lot more popular if it was released day one with a lower price tag. The game also suffers from DLCitious, having (as far as i know) only maps that you can purchase. Finally the huge thing that holds this game back from ever being competitive would be the burn cards. These cards are random and give you special perks somewhat like COD kill streaks. You can equip 3 of these pregame and use them one at a time at the start of the game or between spawns. Overall the game is fun and i enjoyed the time that i put into the game, but i wish i had waited till the price tag would of dropped. The game has some flaws and the package is a bit small for the hefty $60 price tag but for 20 dollars less it could be a great game. If they were to release a Titanfall 2 i would buy and play it, but not day one for $60. I hope they learn from what they did incorrect here and exclude those things in the followup game and improve on what they did right. 7/10

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening10
Oct 31, 2014
The prequel to the original game, Dante's Awakening brought the series back to life by looking back on the original game and improving on it. Its the story of a younger Dante battling it out for humanity and his fathers power against his brother Vergil. It takes place in the tower of Temen-ni-gru. This is the tower that has seal the gate to hell and Sparda's power. Each environment is fresh and unique. You'll venture to the top of the tower all the way to the bottom faces off against demons and bosses along the way. Each boss will reward you with a new weapon that you can equip at the tart of the level. They changed up equipment in this game a bit so that you can have 2 slots equipped at a time, but can only switch when you start a new level, which i felt was a bit of a downfall from freely being able to switch from the menus but they give you two slots for devil arms and two slots for guns so its not that big of an issue. Each weapon is completely unique to the last and changes your combat style completely. You'll get a pair of twin swords that talk to a guitar that shoots bats, you can use the weapons that fit you best. All the bosses are completely original. You'll fight a horse and chariot to your doppelganger on your way to face off against your brother. You'll find the normal enemies challenging as well. Overall this game ended up being perfect for me, there was an issue with some people with the original game due to the fact that the difficulty was not set correctly, but they rereleased a special edition with lowered difficulty that people can play. This is my favorite game in the series.

Devil May Cry9
Oct 31, 2014
The game that started it all. Style and combat all in a small package. Devil May Cry took the Hack and Slash and Action genre and turned it up to 11. Originally considered a spinoff of the Resident Evil series, it became bigger after E3 and was announced as its own series. It follows the Devil Hunter; Dante as he tries to find the truth out behind his mothers murder. Now a recently bought the HD collection pack and some of the combat didn't age quite as well as my nostalgia goggles would of liked to remember, but it was also released in 2001, that is 13 years ago, but still the game play is channeling and rewarding. As Dante you have a Devil Arm (sword/melee weapon) and gun at your disposal at all times. The guns have unlimited ammo, and its because hes a devil himself of course! You'll need both as you cut your way though hordes of demons and bosses to reach your final goal. Combat is simple (compared to its sequels) but gratifying. You'll execute combos and get ranked on combat on a ranking system D-S. At the end of each chapter you will get a final rank on combos, time and damage take with score reduction on items used. This was brand new and gave a huge amount of replay value to the game, always wanting to go back and do that one chapter better or faster. Later games in the series actually had leader boards so that you could match yourself to other people on the internet to see how well you did. This took a single playthou game to multiple playthous easily. Bosses are amazing, but can get repetitive as you see the multiple times throughout the game before you're finally able to take them down. Also on later difficulties you may see them even more often depending on how long it takes you to defeat each boss. Characters in this game is amazing. Dante is a total badass. Hes a bit more serious in the first game then in 3 or 4, but he still will have his witty remarks. Trish who resembles your mother is pretty mysterious, you wont find out much about her until later on in the game. Environment and enemy design is dark and unique. You'll find yourself fighting anything for marionettes to shadows and everything in between. They did a good job with the variety of the enemies. The final battle is breathe taking and its in a multipart fight. Overall this is an amazing game, a must play for any action fans.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive7
Oct 31, 2014
Ah, another attempt to replace the amazing Counter Strike mod from the Half Life days, ending with 1.6. Back in 2004 Counter Strike: Source (CSS for short) was released and people were amazed with the vast improvements. What improvements you ask? That's what we were all confused about back in 2004. Yes the game obviously looked far better now running on the brand new source engine, but what else other then that? People were hesitant on switching over, as they had become accustom to the greatness of 1.6. As people switched we realized they had removed much from the original game or had changed it so that it felt completely different. Now different isn't always a bad thing, but when you remove certain things, it can be. But were not here to talk about CSS, were here to talk about the most recent installment of Counter Strike. Now they have made vast improvements with the game, but it also suffers some major issues, at least in match making. Once again Valve fails to put a region lock on another match making game, so we are playing with people from Brazil, Mexico, China and others. And i have mentioned in other reviews its not where the people are located is the issue (normally unless someone has 500+ ping and makes it so you cant even hit them) its the different languages that is the issue. CSGO is reliant on communication in competitive play to know where people are at, when they are rotating, when we see bomb and so on and so forth. When we cant make simple calls, it ruins the goal of the game. Another issue is that CSGO is plagued with people using paid hacks, yes paid costing upwards to 120 dollars for a 6 month subscription so that they can beat you in match making. When you see someone on the other team spinning circles while running down long A and getting all head-shots you know its not going to be a fun game. Many of the guns have been changed as far as spray patterns, damage, accuracy, and others which is okay, but i feel they are trying to hard to make every gun viable instead of balancing the most important guns. Overall it makes vast improvements over CSS and CS Pro Mod, but it still has a way to go to live up to the original CS. If you get some friends that like playing and you do match making with them, you're sure to have a good time.

Dota 28
Oct 31, 2014
Dota 2 was the sequel (its basically a HD remake, not a sequel) to the hugely popular Warcraft 3 mod. It was based off you select one hero from a pool and you control that hero and your creeps (AI minions) would just come wave after wave and go down a preselected lane. The original game created the MOBA genre. Now years after the original game, huge popularity and many games to follow in its path do we get Dota 2. When they announced this game I was really excited, and even after thousands of hours of playing I do still enjoy **** times. The game runs flawlessly in the source engine, every animation looking amazing. It makes vast improvements over the original game from pregame hero selection to patches and updates to balance out heroes and items. Since the launch of HoN (Heroes of Newerth) and LoL (League of Legends) I felt less inclined to play the older brother of the 3 and gravitated more to HoN where it got most of its ideas from Dota. S2 games is quite a bit smaller then Valve obviously, but I've found they have done a few things right. First off, Dota has the option of what region you want to play in, but no region lock like HoN did. You will queue up for US East, and still get Brazilian and Chinese players. Now nothing against playing with people from different regions, but when you play a game that is reliant on communication, and you speak 2 different languages it makes it difficult. The game really should be region locked. Another thing S2 did was provide a concede vote. When a player leaves the game in a ranked game, you are forced to play out the game or take a leaver status if someone leaves or you are losing. Some teams will drag out the game to an hour if the game could of ended 15 mins in. Another very minor thing would of adding skins for your heroes over very minor pieces of gear. Some barely make your hero unique in any way and basically looks like the same as the default skin, but like i said this is a minor gripe that doesn't affect game play at all. Overall ive spent 1000's of hours in the game and still play it, so they must of done something right, if only they would add a concede vote and a region lock I would finally be able to fully enjoy the game.

DmC: Devil May Cry6
Oct 31, 2014
Before i go off on a rant, can i ask why reboot a great series like DMC? Capcom has been failing with Resident Evil since their master piece with 4, 5 and 6 (especially 6 since 5 had some redeeming factors but not enough to make it a good game) have been terrible. Anyways onto the game. It follows this "new" Dante and Vergil in this new world controlled by demons. From the original series Dante was born a demon and a human woman. In the new game he is born from a angel and demon. Okay i can go with that, changes it a bit but not enough to think this is a bad game right? Wrong From here we find out that Dante has been changed from a witty badass to this uninteresting younger irresponsibly version of himself. He has no love for humans, he basically wants to sit in his trailer and cry about his past. So right off the bat hes an unlikable character. One of the opening cut scenes is him flying though the air getting dressed while a piece of pizza covers him up. He eventually changes his mind about humanity and voes to protect him, but all throughout the game hes not the same Dante we have known for years. There is even a pun at the old Dante, why? All Ninja Theory is doing is alienating the fans even more. We LIKED old Dante, and didn't want him to change. So why say F the fans for wanting the old Dante back? Now we meet up with Vergil, our twin brother we just find out, and hes no better then Dante. Hes annoying and whinny just like Dante, and hes supposed to want to rule the humans but its never really explained why except for "I'm better then them" In the original series Vergil wanted power, more specifically the power of the dark knight Sparta, his father. Its all out there and explained. Here its not explained and I'm sure as a fan we just didn't care either. Onto the art style. There's no denying this game looks great. The limbo world you visit looks stunning. Each enemy looks good and resemble a manikin(I'm assuming they were inspired from the original game) and they all look really cool. All the bosses looked stunning, they took a lot of time to design each environment and it shows. Onto the combat. In DMC4 you were able to switch from your devil arms and guns freely and using the d-pad you could switch from what style you wanted to use, similarly in DCM3 you could select between 2 guns and devil arms at the start of each level and you could switch freely between those. In DMC (the reboot) you only get rebellion. On certain trips to limbo you are able to use rebellion on certain painting and upgrade it to demonic or angelic weapons and depending on what button combination you old you can switch freely between them in combat. Now where this isn't the worst way to switch weapons in a action game, I don't get why you cant just cycle though it instead of having to hold a single button just to do a combo. The guns themselves are a joke, the weakest they have ever been in a DMC game, I don't think i even used them once. Combat itself feels quiet shallow. Basic SSS attacks is all you need to kill most basic enemies. This being a modern Hack and Slash game it has a ranking system, but its the most forgiving system Ive seen especially in a DCM game. There is no real punishment for using the same combo frequently and your rank will only go down if you get hit, it is no longer based on time. Another questionable decision was to remove targeting from the game. On harder difficulties targeting is a necessity to easily get rid of the weakened and easier mobs or to focus down one harder mob, like a Blitz from DMC 4. Why remove something that is in every action game and every DMC game before this? Overall looking past the fact of the reboot and on its own individual game, it has a few things that make it a okay game. The environments and enemies both look good. The combat is shallow and not very rewarding, but not bad either. The story and characters are both awful. If you look at this game as a standalone, separate from the original DMC games it isn't a terrible game, it just isn't good either.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance8

I got this game WAY late, and when i say late I mean over a year after it was released, but I figure I will put my two cents review in. Ive always been a fan of the MG and MGS series. They were apart of the stealth genre, but somehow felt different then say Splinter Cell. Maybe the more unrealistic story? I'm not sure. But regardless i was a fan ever since i played MGS 1 and had to go back and replay MG and MG 2. Now I've never owned a PSP or PS3, went the route of Xbox 360 so the story was a bit hazy for me up until recently but live I've already said I enjoy the series. Now onto MGR: R. This game is a complete spin off of the original MGS series. Follows Raiden now a cyborg ninja who has his own path to follow aside that from what he has been leading in the MGS story with Snake. It takes a VERY few things from the original MGS series, and i think this is done perfectly. It is a spinoff series of course so the genre and style can be its own, and it is. Even compared to other hack and slash games, its unique in its own right. What this game does right. The music, i felt this soundtrack was amazing. Every boss encounter has its own song and it gets you into the fight. The first time you fight a boss and go to block a giant sword and the song changes, it felt awesome. It really felt like you could take on the whole world. That is until you meet Sam and he cuts your arm off. The blade mode is very unique. You to into a bullet time and stand still where now your analog stick controls the movement of your sword. You can also use the light and heavy attack buttons to slash vertically and horizontally. During your blade time you can also pull the cyber spines out of your enemies to heal yourself and your BM meter. To finish off a boss you go into a blade mode bullet time and slice them to bits, even though they can talk to you after the fight for a moment?... Regardless it is cool. As the game progresses you get points you can spend on additional weapons, more health and different techniques. As a hack and slash game, it throws away the traditional dodge for a block mechanic which in most cases can block all incoming damage and stagger your enemy for a second to counter attack. Unfortunately some bosses will do mitigated damage though the block so you need to either make sure you carry rations or end the fight quickly. Raiden's new look is awesome, and playing as him is really fun. Now some of the issues with the game. Like before I said the have a block mechanic in this game. You push the analog stick in the direction you are about to be attacked and press the light attack button to block. Sounds simple enough right? Its too simple. The window where you can actually perform a block is HUGE. Its a good 2 seconds before the attacks are performed you can go into the blocked stance. For the most part you should be able to block every attack, and for whatever you cant, you can steal enemies cyborg spines to heal to full. Yes full. Even if you're at 1% health you will go to full health and full BM. Some of the boss fights felt a bit buggy, but I watched videos on them as well and they didn't seem to do the same thing they did when i fought them so I'm not really sure about that. It could be differences in the ports from PS3 to Xbox 360. The combat feels a bit shallow, for the most part you'll find that you are hitting the light attack button due to the fact that it does damage and blocks at the same time, you'll end up taking more damage at the cost of very little damage increase if you use the heavy attack more often. This is a modern hack and slash game, so of course there is a rating system at the end of every level, but it seems to really on factor in combos and times. Damage taken or deaths do not weight at all on the score, which is strange because this is from the same devs as Bayonetta who penalized you quite a bit for items used, deaths and damage taken. Another thing is your main weapon can never be changed, only upgraded which I guess is okay but some variety would be nice. Once you kill a boss their weapon becomes available for purchase from the store, unlike most games who would provide it for you for a reward for killing said boss, but they are usually pretty cheap to buy (though can get expensive to upgrade so pick one and stick with it) Within the actual game there are VR mission unlockables, but no health or weapon unlocks which is also strange but it doesn't necessarily take anything away from the game expect for maybe some replay value. Overall its an amazing entry to the MG series. I love hack and slash/action games and I also really like the MG franchise, this game gives me a good medium for both. The combat is a bit lacked to others in the same genre and from the same devs, and the blocking mechanic could be tightened up a bit to make it more challenging, but its a great game in its own light and also a great game for people trying to play a good hack and slash game. 8/10

Destiny7
Oct 31, 2014
Got Destiny day one. Started playing with two of my friends and before we knew it we had beat the story and started the infamous grind. Sadly Destiny suffers for a identity crisis. I feel like it tries to be too many things at once. The game isn't exactly what Bungie promised, and at the same time it feels like its missing a lot. People have either loved or hated this game, and for me its a bit of a love/hate relationship. They do so many things right, but other things drive me crazy. First off Ive played Boarderlands 2, Diablo and World of Warcraft, so playing a grid game isnt the problem, at least for me. For me is the randomness of the loot. You'll get into a weekly nightfall raid with two of your buddies, you will get the highest amount of kills, the most revives and the fewest deaths, but will that matter? Nope. The person with the lowest kills and most deaths will get 2 exotics and you will be left with a worthless uncommon or rare. The same goes for PVP. Someone will just join or be afk the whole game and they will be rewarded while you who got the most points or captures will be "punished" by getting nothing out of the game besides the 2-3 marks. Level up past 20 is a headache. It is all luck based. Once again this is a grind game, and playing Diablo 3 I know all about luck. You'll get some item and you hope its what you want but its completely itemized incorrectly for what you want. In Destiny you level up by XP until you reach level 20. At 20 you do not get any more XP and now you level up by getting a stat called Light which can now be found on gear (weapons do not give light level). This basically means if you get unlucky you may never get the gear you need to level up. You can do bounties and PVP to get marks to get the gear you want, but this obviously takes time when people can luck out and get legendary and exotic gear and get level 28 in a single week (you need raid gear past 28 to progress to level 30). This can leave you stuck at lower levels when your friends are out doing the weekly nightfall or raids. This has since been fixed but I will mention it anyways, even if you were to get a legendary engram, it may decode to a RARE or UNCOMMON. These are hard enough to find as it is but this makes it impossible to get it to decode to something you can actually use. My Hunter's first legendary engram turned into gloves for a Titan. This has since been fixed but it was still originally in the game. Another thing they did wrong is no match making for PVE. If you want to do the weekly heroic strike or weekly nightfall, you sure better know 2 friends who are about the same level as you (28ish), have it for the correct system and is on at the same time. If not you aren't doing the strike this week. How is there no match making in a game that REQUIRES a group? The raid falls in this same category. You need 6 people at the same time, but there's no match making. Why?? PVP i find fun and frustrating at the same time. First off the game type rotation is annoying, you are only allowed to play cretin game types during cretin times during the week, even though will sometimes get bounties for that game type during a day when its not available. There is no type of MMR (Match Making Rating) so you'll get paired up with all types of skill levels of players with a variety of different levels and different gear. You can be level 5 and get paired up with the Vex super weapon that basically 2 shots players. You may even be brand new to this game and thing to yourself it takes a whole clip to kill someone, but only 2 shots for him? I feel weapons are unbalanced for PVP, everyone starting with a shotgun that can one shot you or a fusion rifle or a rocket and sniper. In previous games like Halo these were a single spawn point and you had to contest with other players to get a hold of it. Here everyone has a gun that can one shot you. Every game type is basically the same. You have Clash, Clash with the ability to capture points, and Clash with vehicles. There is absolutely no variety, and the only one that seems even relatively even close to what the pace should be is control, but even that seems to be frustrating depending on the map. Every map rewards camping and it seems like they all have choke points where you'll just run though a tight doorway or opening and either get sniped from someone across the map or a shotgun right in the back. Also in PVP/PVE there is no communication. Why is there no communication? Because they disabled voice chat when not in groups. Why? This is what they call a "competitive shooter" so why is there no voice chat? Overall I have enjoyed the game, hence the 8/10. I got a free copy with my Xbox One and then traded it in for a limited edition, which proves I liked it, but there is a lot of things wrong with the game as it stands now. They claim its going to be 10 year game, but they have a long ways to go if they thing it will outlive Halo and other FPS games as it stands

Bayonetta 210
Oct 31, 2014
Ah Bayonetta 2, what can i say that hasn't been said in every review already. First off it continues the story of Bayonetta, a Umbra Witch who uses her hair (yes i said her hair) as a weapon to fight off angelic foes whenever she comes across them. This game expands on the enemy type to now also include her old demonic friends from inferno who have now become disloyal to her. This game builds on the first game quite well, even if on a less powerful system then we all wished for. The environments range from the golden skies of Paradiso, to the red and black world of Inferno itself, everything looks amazing. You can really tell the amount of detail and time they took to create each individual environment. The angelic enemies look similar to the first game with the porcelain faces and headless bodies but are still a spectral to look at. The new demonic enemies all look completely unique and fresh. The variety of enemies keeps it fresh, you never seem to be fighting the same 3 enemies for a prolonged period of time before a new enemy and intro popup. The one downfall of this is just the sear amount of intros for the amount of enemies you face someone slow down the pace of combat, when you go from one room seeing a brand new intro then you walk 10 feet and you see another one. Regardless it doesn't affect the game all that much. Next the actual story. This game has had an amazing story as a selling point. Its ridiculous and over the top, but I'm okay with that as is many of the fans. The game itself is over the top, why wouldn't the story be as well? Though the story is not a selling point, it is in no way a bad story, its just goofy. As for character design, they stay true to the original game. Bayonetta loves her blacks as much as Jeane loves her reds. Enzo and Rodin look about the same but that is neither here nor there. I honestly like Bayonetta's short hair this game a bit more then her over sized bun of the first game. Everyone swears a ridiculous amount, and where it doesn't bother me, it may offend some so if that's not something you're okay with this isn't the game for you. The combat is amazing and fluent, the sheer amount of weapons you can unlock in this game is amazing. Once again you can add weapons to both your hands and feet for a endless amount of combinations (no not really endless but you have a lot of choices). This is the only game where you can wear chainsaws for ice skates that also doubles as a weapon. How can you ask for more? Nintendo did a great job adding their own touch of weapons including chomp chomp and mini Arwings. There is so much to unlock in this game that warrants multiple playthous. You can also unlock weapons from the first game in the second game as well for a even higher weapon count, so start collecting those halos! Now that we have talked about everything I find amazing about this game, ill mention the parts that could of been left out. Bayonetta is a sexy hair witch who uses sex as a weapon, and no I'm not talking like Xena from Goldeneye. She uses her hair as both a weapon and her clothes so as she uses her wicket weave, clothes will start to disappear. And at the end of the fight you will climax, summoning a giant demon to finish off your weakened foes which will leave you completely naked (censored by your own hair of course). Now people seem to think there is a problem with this, which is fine everyone has their own tastes and own opinion which they are entitled to, but the developers are not trying to belittle women by over hyper sexualizing her, but she using as a weapon and it empowers her as she does it. Now i feel there are a few shots that do degrade her, it feels like some of the cut scenes were shot by some 16 year old trying to get a peep at his attractive neighbor. These could of been left out of the game and no one would of missed them i think. Overall this is an amazing game, one of the best if not the best in the genre. The combat is both engaging and simple at the same time. You can hit buttons for easy combos and enjoy the game, or master every combo and master the infinite climate and tag climax modes. There are a few oddly placed camera angles, but don't let that take away from the game. I was a bit upset that this was a Wii U exclusive, but all i did was go out and buy a Wii U. I'm hoping that it sells well (yeah i know i have my hopes up) and we can get more out of this amazing series.
Wii U
