Finished the game. Played with random's and friends. Got the full experience playing slowly and explored everywhere. I just can't get into the D&D series anymore like I did with Baldurs Gate. Hardly any of the controls and mechanics work. The online is frustrating and unbearable at times. Animations and Graphics are sloppy. Boss and Enemy AI is hit and miss. I tuned out for most of the story, it felt like I was missing crucial info or context to it all. Something kept me playing though, hard to pinpoint what. Maybe cause it's on Game Pass. That's about all I would really pay to play this game. I know it's not what some people may have experienced but it was what I went through. Boring, Laggy, Buggy and Ugly. Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart is brilliant! It's been so many years since I have felt a game that feels new, that wowed me, that left me speechless. This game is it. This is a next-gen experience. The story is funny and is written brilliantly. The combat is incredibly fun, fast-paced, responsive and challenging at times. Exploration is expanded upon other games and is a joy to spend hours scouring every stunningly gorgeous level after the other. Jaw-droppingly detailed visuals and graphics, unlike anything I have seen before. Instantly addicted, in love with the characters and stunned, just STUNNED by how polished, how perfectly crafted and how much pure undistilled video-gamey goodness is inside this near perfect marvel of technological wizardry. This is a MUST BUY and something to grab right away if you get a chance to get a PS5. Watch my full review here: ****/RkTA02J4cog

Biomutant is not the game I was expecting and left a lot to be desired. Part of me appreciates the creative design, the wonderfully vibrant world and the endless hours getting lost exploring and looting. But unfortunately, not even a cute critter, adorable clothes or fun vehicles can save Biomutant from itself. The execution is lacking, the direction is flawed and the overall experience feels misguided. It's janky, broken, gets old fast, has barely any captivating story to engage you, combat doesn't work well at all and the damn narrator detracts from the whole game. Basic RPG elements like quests, builds, diaolgue, plot and progression just fail to work. It has its own charm at times and is a wonderful time-wasting experience that could have made for a creative new IP but in the end, fails at being cohesive in its design and execution. Resident Evil Village is a fantastic addition to Ethan Winters series. Taking elements of past Resident Evil's and combining them with the First Person genre, super effective with its non-stop action and terrifying scares. A change of pace from the last game, with more emphasis on combat than before. Strangely enough, there is a tone of exploration to be had as well as heaps of replayability. A cast of some of the series most memorable characters, combined with a twist and turns that will grip you through the whole game. Gorgeous visuals, perfect sound design and highly enjoyable puzzles, combat and story. So close to being perfect but there are some issues with the game seeming to be cut down in some areas and Lady Dimitrescu being used far too early. This is a must-play and if you want to know why just watch my review for the full take on Resident Evil Village: ****/hgr6R6FEA24

Returnal

User ScoreLadyAux
May 14, 2021
Returnal, a fascinating and brutal roguelike that pushes the boundaries of the shooter genre using haptic and adaptive triggers, but may push too hard with its seemingly unfair difficulty. At some points, the game feels really good and leans heavily on its Alien/Prometheus-like setting. Daring exploration into the dangers of the unknown, a drip-fed story with a far deeper meaning hidden in obscure lore. Each run a practice of learning room layouts and becoming familiar with the core risk/reward gameplay. Exceptionally responsive, satisfying and fast combat that just gets better the more you get to grips with its pace. The biggest problem ( aside from being only a AA game and overpriced) Returnal is just not for everyone. It requires a high level of intensity in combat, a thing you can learn with repetition but something that is offputting with how quickly you have to GIT GUD. It's not unfair but it is certainly punishing. Pushing you back if you try to rush through and lacking a compelling hook for what will feel like endless, repetitive and rewardless trecks through the game over and over. Having to put the console into Rest mode just to suspend and save your progress, its always worrying leaving it there. Update or crash and its all lost. Runs are particularly long and you need a good 3 hours to make the most of them. Multiplayer aspects to the game are just not working at launch and there is next to no replayability once you get the secret ending. I flip-flopped my score on this one but I go into it more here in my review: ****/MamHHAQzH_E

Monster Hunter Rise

May 1, 2021
Monster Hunter Rise is one of those games that you either love or hate. With this particular version, it comes down to whether you are an old school fan or new school (MHW). Rise has quite a few new monsters and unique game modes to play with but on the flip side, a fair bit removed. While I enjoyed the new monsters, the wire bug mechanics and the ability to mount monsters, that wasn't enough to get me to love the game. Its main story is short and almost nonexistent at times. Hunts are easy, even playing solo. They are short and fast, catered mainly to the Switch. Designed to play with friends and get some fast hunts done while you are on the go. The game is visually a downgrade from World but also terrible even for a Switch game. I still had a good time with Rise though, its hard to fault its addictive, casual and fast gameplay. Mundaun is one of those indie horror games that shines solely because of how strange it is. A meticulous and passionate design for a world based on the hand drawn art style of pencil scribblings. The atmosphere and horror are just that much more effective because of its swiss folklore roots and spoken dialogue. Something can be said for the simplistic jank and traditional Amnesia style horror that games in this genre have. An item collecting based puzzle game with very, VERY basic combat and threats. The game shows a lot of promise and delivers from a narrative driven horror perspective. Otherwise its basic, has next to no real threats from the monsters, its short, it has strange game mechanic progression. But I still really liked it for some reason. Its got a lot of charm and the atmospheric setting, story and sound design is great. Check out my short review here: ****/RM9xEgGs10M

Little Nightmares II, an incredibly polished horror experience that draws on your nightmares. The world around you seeming so big and you so tiny, everything is a threat. Having to clamber around over furniture and through buildings. Finding paths and solving physics puzzles to navigate through each new horrifying location. This time, having an AI companion to guide you and team up together in order to make it through this living hell. Battling it out against massive monstrosities, one single misstep and you are their lunch. A Tim Burton-esque mix of cultural styles and architecture that gives the game this unique, creepy, dark mysterious vibe and a story that is confusing but oh so tantalizing to decipher. Just amazing work from this indie team, absolutely polished and built upon from the first game. A frightening and adrenaline fueled trip through 2.5 D platforming, chases and puzzle solving, short but still such good value. Check out my full review here: ****/54jBuRTatPQ

Part of me wanted to review this game without being stupidly blind and biased towards anything that even remotely seemed like Silent Hill. The Medium is actually not even close to either Silent Hill or Resident Evil but still borrows a lot from them. There was huge promise in the split world mechanic and even the fact we had ray tracing. On one hand, this game is a really good effort. On the other, it seems lacking, in real threats, constant scares and true horror. The Medium isn't really a horror game, its more a game about the work of Mediums with supernatural connections and powers to another world. What is there in the game feels like a step towards a greater game world, amazing characters and story for our Medium protagonists, in a future game maybe. The music is PHENOMENAL, as can be expected. The graphics, only slightly above par, with poorly utilized RT and some bad models and lip-sync but a whole lot of effort put in for most of the game worlds design. The Medium feels like a tribute to horror games from the 90s and I AM ALL ABOUT THAT. You really can't go past what is great value for a Game Pass title. Just wanted more, expected better and felt let down by how short the game is. Still really impressed though, would recommend a play regardless. Check out my review here: ****/ssYNgx3o5Z0

The Pathless is a game I really wanted to enjoy, especially as I was getting huge ICO and Shadow of the Colossus vibes off it. It has fairly unique movement and a visual style that looks a lot like Samurai Jack but with a Mongolian twist. Sadly the game is really short and lacks in mostly all departments. Not much variety to locations and puzzles. The same objectives and boring exploration. The only thing holding my attention was the adorable Eagle buddy who follows you around and some really epic boss fights that have unique stages, phases and gimmicks to them. The music is really good and was the only thing staving off the boredom with the endless monotony of repetitive exploration and puzzle solving. Why did it take Ubisoft copying BOTW and Fable to put out the FAR BETTER VERSION OF ASSASSINS CREED ODYSSEY?! Everything you wanted, the gods the monsters, the mythos, all wrapped up in this incredibly addictive action exploration title, inside a gorgeous open world. Glide your way across the map, uncover hidden treasures, battle monsters of legend and have a laugh along the way because this game is actually pretty funny. A really tight and polished experience that outdoes even Valhalla, not at all what I was expecting from this game. The combat is really fun and allows for endless amounts of creativity building your own combos. You will be spending a huge amount of time tackling some really creative and clever puzzles that are just so rewarding when you figure them out. Immortals Fenyx Rising is just such a great way to show how good Greek Myth is and there is never a boring moment with the entire game and every action you do in it, being narrated by the funny duo of Zeus and Prometheus. Whilst Haven isn't the most ambitious and lengthy game out there, it certainly offers something "different". Think of it like this romantic space narrative adventure that combines a bit of Journey's magical and relaxing movement/exploration elements and add in partial survival mechanics mixed with a little bit of some nostalgic rpg-esque turn based battles. What really draws you in to this tiny little indie game is its JAW DROPPING ART AND MUSIC. Plus the fact you get to be a perv and intrude on a couples personal moments like a creep. I could never have expected a game so wonderful, so gorgeous, beautiful and well, incredible. Valhalla has got to be the freshest game from the AC series to date and its an experience unlike any other of the series titles I have played before. What was right in Origins and Odyssey, Valhalla kept. What was wrong, was thrown away and replaced by so, sooo much more. The combat is insanely brutal and engaging, the world is massive and the story is breathtaking. Stunning looking game on the Series X but alas a game mired by extensive graphical and game breaking bugs. A perfect score is not far off if it could only have been bug and glitch free. The characters, the voice acting, the music, the gameplay loop, it's all far far above previous Assassin's Creed's, just a little tweaking on the length of the game and the pacing and it would be 10/10. 140 hours later and it is an experience I will never forget. Its the most publicized and divisive game out there. Remarkably better than I imagined for a game ripping off nearly everything in Breath of the Wild. But in all honesty, besides the predatory microtransactions, progression locking and gacha elements, Genshin Impact is pretty enjoyable when it comes to good old MMO style RPG mechanics and its character switching combat. Its a little rough sometimes, framerate is trash on PS4, I don't think the localization was great and the menus are god awful but its basically as average as any other time wasting mobile MMO out there on the market. You don't even need to buy into all the monetization stuff to be able to enjoy the game for a while and its free so why not give it a shot. Surprisingly relaxing time I had with it and casually accessible gameplay that didn't feel boring at all. Watch my review here for my thoughts on the game : ****/QqGsiQ460Z8

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope

Nov 9, 2020
For a game basically ripping off almost every part of Silent Hill, Little Hope still managed to feel a whole lot better than I was expecting. Granted, it's still a quicktime event, cutscene filled game. Even if Little Hope feels like it goes backwards, in terms of how linear its level design is, almost every other aspect of the game has been improved over Man of Medan. The characters are miles more likeable, even if their personalities and relationships aren't the main focus this time around. The graphics, cinematography, monsters and sound design are amazing. The story this time no longer seems to focus on this idiotic scooby- doo nonsense of Medan. Its creepy, weird, really bizarre, terrifying and haunting. Just when you think you know how to play the game and what the story may have in store, Little Hope just doesn't follow the same formula as Medan. Quicktime events have been made more manageable when you are just starting out and you have way more chances to get everyone out alive. Its not the greatest game and 4 hours is really far too short for a game these days. But its a good sign for the series if they can do better than Medan and improve so much with Little Hope. Had little to no hope for Legion and what Ubisoft has been releasing Lately. Even only playing the first Watch Dogs, I can say that I was wildly surprised by how much I actually am enjoying Legion. It just has this better feel and tone set in London and the whole idea of playing as multiple operatives seems to have done away with most of the repetitive gameplay. Legion feels a lot more like you are playing a Splinter Cell game, sneaking around, hacking drones and garroting people from behind. Even on my sub par PC, Legion looks stunning and can keep up with all the stuff going on in the world. Just ignore most of the usual Ubi junkiness with all the bugs and potato looking NPC's and you get a fairly decent game, probably the best in the series so far. It's by no means the shining star in Ubisoft's catalogue of titles but it has kept me invested and engaged so far for my playthrough. Watch my full review here for more: ****/vQJXW8yRXH8

Ghostrunner, on one hand its a masterful creation full of intense and unforgiving fast paced parkouring and stylishly brutal katana action. On the other, its a broken, ugly and poorly ported console version of a far superior PC version. If only the game looked and ran nearly as well on XB1X, maybe then it would have impressed me more. Its still a fairly short and linear game with kinda barebones story but it has an amazing sense of style and flair, responsive inputs, superb controls and some sick electronic dubstep music. Perfect game for speed runners. Once mastered you will be effortlessly flowing your way through wall running, jumping, dodging and slaying enemies. I fully expected this game to be a direct sequel to the Dark Descent or for the subtitle of 'Rebirth' to mean it was Amnesia but brought into the current gen. How wrong I was. Not only does this game fail to capture the same terror and even horror of the past series, it adds mechanics in, that make the game essentially Easy Mode. Graphically the game looks terribly dated on the PS4. It's a cobbled together bunch of set pieces that flow badly and is disjointed by how often you aren't in control and actually playing the game. It even throws in this weird alien world garbage that would do better completely removed from the game as it disconnects from a perfectly good 1930's archaeological dig horror setting. Its boring, the story gets ruined by the future Aztec stuff and the worst thing, its not in the slightest bit scary. I even thought Machine for Pigs was much better than this game to be honest. Rebirth is very short and sadly disappointing. Watch my review here: ****/LVZd94P7yrM

Windbound, a game that heavily emphasizes the fact that it wants to be like Windwaker. Which is a false comparison. Windbound is a shallow randomly generated survival game in a sea of Raft's and Stranded Deep's. Bizarre and punishing difficulty that detracts from the relaxing quality of semi-realistic sailing. Little to no story elements, NPC's or quests that would make this an adventure game like Windwaker. Hollow crafting and progression, wonky controls and crafting placement on Xbox. Lack of challenge and reason to build the toughest boat you can, as its not needed for any of the final islands. Lack of island variety or progressive changes to environments, size or complexity as the chapters progress. Broken boat physics and glitches, that don't seem to be alleviated by your own construction choices or hull placement to balance things out.
