Overwatch8
May 25, 2016
Overwatch takes FPS multiplayer and provides a unbelievable immersive and fun experience. The key word here is fun, as Blizzard has created a world where you discover new characters and new features and abilities whether you have played 5 games or 105 games and, despite the lack of a story or a variety of game modes, Overwatch will keep you hooked and playing for hours. This is something that games like The Division has failed to do lately. The multiple characters, each with their own unique abilities and traits that provide something different to each game mode and battle, give the game an interesting and diverse aspect that will keep everyone hooked. What stands out here though is how strategic the game can be. Rather than choosing one character and giving him traits or perks and playing every game the same way, Overwatch requires you to play as a team, look at what the team has and what it needs, and adapt what character you choose and how you play in order to help the team win. This is something that might be new to console gamers, and could be hit or miss within the community. Though Overwatch does lack in game modes, the modes that are there can provide hours of fun for a FPS multiplayer shooter, and the lack of story matters none in my opinion as I am totally immersed in the experience anyway.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End8
May 25, 2016
Uncharted is a franchise that is a true system-seller for PlayStation. The fourth entry in this franchise does not disappoint and, while not introducing anything new or ground-breaking, A Thief's End provides a satisfying conclusion to the Nathan Drake story. Firstly, this game and this world is completely and utterly breathtaking. In my opinion, the best looking game of all time as everything from plants and vegetation to fire and explosions look realistic, and the characters during cutscenes look like it is pulled from a movie. The voice-acting is still the best of any game or franchise I've ever played, with a strong performance by Troy Baker adding to the already outstanding cast. The gameplay is solid, and one of my complaints about The Last of Us was that it felt too slow and repetitive, though some parts of this game (Scotland in particular) does feel similar, the gameplay provides enough excitement and variety to keep you interested. Having said this, there is a part in the game where I completely lost interest. The prologue and early parts of the story you mainly watch, but these are excellent as it shows that Nathan Drake is struggling to cope with retirement. Once the adventure starts and you find yourself climbing and jumping and climbing and jumping it does take a while for the game to re-hook you. Though the characters are so interesting and entertaining, the story as to why Drake's brother Sam has turned up and how he gets Drake back into the business seems a little convenient, and you wonder how any of the aspects were not mentioned in earlier games. All in all though, I will give Uncharted 4 the same score as I provided The Last of Us, 8/10). Naughty Dog creates gaming experiences and, though The Last of Us tugged at the heart strings slightly more with a more interesting story, Uncharted 4 provides more exciting gameplay and more interesting characters that I personally cared more about. All in all, a very good game that everyone with a PS4 should really experience.

Batman: Arkham Origins6
Mar 25, 2016
Though Arkham Origins admittedly does not get anywhere near the standard of Arkham Asylum or City, it is still a decent game that is worth playing for any fans of the series. Warner Bros Montreal attempts to take the fantastic Rocksteady series and continue it whilst telling the story from a viewpoint of a young Bruce Wayne within his first year of being the Bat. The combat system is as fluent as other games, no need whatsoever to alter with it too much, although new combos and gadgets added to Batman's armoury are very nice additions to combat and other aspects of the game. Multiplayer is also a nice addition, and a few extra hours of fun can be had with a nicely balanced multiplayer mode. The story within the game is solid enough and, though it may not be particularly memorable, it is a very standard story for an origin tale and provides a good dynamic between a inexperienced Batman and Alfred who is trying to do his absolute best for Bruce. The villains in this game are not any where near as strong as previous entries in the series, and the absence of Mark Hamill as the Joker is glaring throughout the game. Troy Baker does provide a decent performance, but it does not quite fill the gap left by Hamill. AI within the game can sometimes be idiotic, as I have often seen the most threatening enemy with armour and a gun walking directly into a wall, making it easy pickings for Batman. Arkham Origins is a decent game, as I said earlier, but if it is to be measured by the bar previous Arkham games have set then it must be said, it is disappointing.

Batman: Arkham Asylum8
Mar 25, 2016
A game that truly defied any expectation that it may have had on it, Arkham Asylum is a genre-defining game that will set the standard for any superhero game to come. A flawless combat system is one of the main talking points from this game, the ability to be the Batman by taking on huge gangs of thugs with relative ease when using different combos and counter-attacks to make you feel very good about yourself when you look around after the battle to see bodies laying everywhere. As well as this, being able to switch to detective mode, and clear a whole room without anyone realising you're there is also hugely rewarding. The scarecrow nightmare missions are exceptional, and even includes a very clever fourth-wall break. Though the voice acting is solid on all parts, the real star of the show is Mark Hamill as the Joker. Hilariously vicious, Hamill does everything in his power to make the Joker both true to the character and memorable within the game, and he excels at both. The only real issue within the game is how compact the Asylum actually is. I often got myself lost when trying to find the correct place to go, wandering around the Asylum in all kinds of rooms and areas apart from the correct ones. This is something the sequel addresses in spectacular fashion. Batman: Arkham Asylum makes sure that the superhero game is now not an afterthought or a addition to a superhero movie, but hopefully the defining chapter in what could be an exciting time for superhero games. Thank you, Rocksteady, thank you.

The Amazing Spider-Man 23
Mar 25, 2016
Horrendous. Being someone who enjoyed playing through the first game, and looking forward to the sequel, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 smothers everything that was enjoyable about its predecessor as well as highlight and expand on all of the problems that the first game had. I would normally go into the good points about this game, but I really can't. What can I say, you can still web-swing? No, glitches multiplied by 10 from The Amazing Spider-Man makes it near impossible to complete any mission or side-challenge without running into a problem with the game. A shocker, an absolute shocker.

The Amazing Spider-Man6
Mar 25, 2016
Watching gameplay from The Amazing Spider-Man gave me hope that the Arkham games inspired it, hoping for great gameplay and a great story to play along with. What we got, was an okay game, with an okay story, and okay gameplay. The story leads on from the events of The Amazing Spider-Man movie, which I was a huge fan of by the way, and it includes a lot of the same characters including Dr Curt Connors, Gwen Stacey and, of course, Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Although the combat system isn't quite as flawless as the Arkham series, it is still solid and can provide some fun when taking on a huge gang of enemies using different combos, slinging webs left right and centre. While gliding around Arkham City is a fantastic experience, web-swinging your way around New York City collecting everything there is to be collected provides more fun than you'd think, and does cap off a very decent game. There are problems with the game, glitches and sometimes idiotic AI enemies sometimes make the game much easier than it should be. A final boss fight that you can pretty much walk through doesn't provide any kind of challenge that should be there if you're Spider-Man, and this is quite disappointing. All in all, a slightly above average superhero game that has its moments, but not enough.

Rocket League8
Mar 25, 2016
This is probably the shortest review I will ever give, but Rocket League is the perfect example of, sometimes, less is more. Cars playing football, simple, fun, and hugely effective. The developers could have tried to be too clever, making it available to edit the cars to improve speed or strength, but this would probably leave the game unbalanced and slightly unfair. The simplicity is the best part of Rocket League, and the chaotic 4v4 mode can provide hours upon hours of fun.

The Last of Us Remastered8
Mar 24, 2016
I did not get the chance to play The Last of Us on PS3, so when the remaster came out on the PS4 (albeit very soon after its PS3 release... £££) I was very eager to play the game. Though it didn't reach the 'best game ever' status that a lot of people have given it, it is a very, very good game. The soundtrack is immense and memorable, the graphics are hugely improved from what were already incredible graphics on the PS3, as Joel and Ellie become instantly relateable thanks to their realistic look, as well as some of the best voice acting you will hear in video games. Naughty Dog never disappoints when it comes to that aspect of games. The story of the game is so realistic it will invest anyone who plays it, the fact that the bacteria and disease involved is a real thing that does not effect humans at the moment does make the player wonder, could this actually happen? On the other hand, the gameplay does disrupt The Last of Us in my opinion. You will go from shooting humans that they put in front of you, to sneaking through a pack of clickers, to trying to escape from something, rinse and repeat and rinse and repeat. There is never huge variation in the gameplay, and with the shooting being particularly slow, it does not help the game at all. The Last of Us suffers from the same problems I felt Uncharted suffered from, in such a beautiful world there is never any room for exploration. Couldn't you just let us wander just a little? Damn you Naughty Dog. Multiplayer is quite gripping, however it doesn't really keep up with what the story was about, but it is entertaining none the less. The Last of Us is a very, very good game that does a lot of things right, but, in my opinion, just falls short of the 'great' tag.

FIFA 164
Mar 24, 2016
I worry for FIFA, I really do. While PES 2016 has improved everything about its predecessor, FIFA 16 is either at a standstill or taken a backwards step, and it has in its last few instalments. The passing system is hugely flawed, one pass to a person right in front of you will be hit as hard as they can possibly hit it, despite you only tapping the button, and in the other aspect a pass you may have held down a button all the way for to a player that is far away may not make it anywhere near them. The first touch system is a constant problem in FIFA games, and (surprise, surprise) it has not been addressed. You could tackle someone but because the first touch of the player is so bad it will knock the ball away from that player, allowing the opposition to regain possession. If this happens in front of your own goal, it can result in a few broken controllers. Goalkeepers have been improved, in all fairness. They will now be much more commanding, rather than being a bunch of Simon Mignolets. Other than that, can anyone give me anything that has been improved from FIFA 15? I'll answer my own question, no.

Destiny: The Taken King7
Mar 24, 2016
A huge improvement on the Destiny that we got at launch, The Taken King is finally the Destiny that people expected. A boost to the story, as well as new sub-classes for each class, new missions and new raids, everything about The Taken King expands and improves on the lackluster original Destiny adventure. The voice acting, particularly from Nathan Fillion, is much more charismatic and has much more energy than in the original 'story'. Though still not particularly fantastic, the story added by The Taken King is solid and provides incentive to keep playing on and on. The gameplay is still as flawless as ever, and the levelling system is much simpler now the better equipment you have will dictate how high your level is. The lack of matchmaking when it comes to raids is still baffling. Raids are the best part of Destiny, and will provide a much more purposeful end game for everyone if matchmaking was there. In fact, the end game content is the only thing preventing The Taken King from getting higher than a 7. All in all though, a huge improvement, with even more potential.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection7
Mar 24, 2016
When The Last of Us was remastered, having not played Uncharted as I didn't own a PS3, I was calling for an Uncharted collection. Now having played through the games, I can see why they were genre-defining at the time, but I do not think in this day and age they are particularly great games. First of all, the voice acting in the three games is the best voice acting I have heard from a video game. Hands down. Nathan Drake is hilarious, Chloe is flirtatious and a great companion, and Sully is the old, wise but cool mentor to Drake. The stories throughout the trilogy are interesting and memorable, and I was captured to see what happened next. However, I did feel like I was on a track with no exploration available. And in a game that is about exploring, this was disappointing. I didn't expect a huge open world, but just something other than a straight line that I had to walk down to shoot guys that they put in front of me. I had to play the game on the hardest difficulty because otherwise it felt like the game was playing itself. I do recommend this remaster to people who have not played the trilogy like myself, as I did have a lot of fun with it. But if you expect it to change the way you look at video games as a whole, then lower your expectations a tad.

Batman: Arkham Knight7
Mar 24, 2016
Being someone who's favourite game of all time is Batman: Arkham City, you can imagine how high the bar was set for Arkham Knight. It does try its very best to scratch and claw its way to that bar, but does not quite reach it, for a reason I will explain later on. Firstly, the gameplay is as spectacular as it is in previous instalments, its far from broke so why fix it, right? Gotham City has never looked so crisp, and the sheer size of the City to glide from building to building really does make you feel like the Bat. The voice acting is as brilliant as previous games, with most actors returning to their roles, in sometimes brilliant fashion. What takes this score to a 7? The batmobile. When it was announced that the batmobile was playable in Arkham Knight I was optimistic about what that would bring to the game, would it be a way of getting around a huge Gotham City quicker? Maybe used in a couple of missions? This is true, but using the batmobile becomes more of a chore than a help. Most missions will include some kind of mini-horde mode where you will have to take out other tanks, which is fun the first couple of times but becomes a drag. The Riddler creates tracks for the batmobile, come on, is that what The Riddler is all about? All in all Arkham Knight is a very good game, but the batmobile does overstay its welcome massively.

Star Wars Battlefront5
Mar 24, 2016
I wish there was more here. This is probably, the best looking game I have ever played, honestly. Hoth and Endor are superb, and playing on these maps really make you feel like you are part of the Star Wars movie. Fans of Star Wars will love playing on every map that is available, the problem is however, there are four maps. FOUR. With no single player offering, which I would have absolutely no problem with if the rest of the game had more content and substance, the game suffers from absolutely no signs of longevity present. The spawning system on most game types are horrendous, often putting you right back into the action that you recently died from. The only particularly good and interesting character skins can be unlocked from level 40 onwards, as if EA expected people to play 4 maps with possibly 3, 4 (at a push) fun game modes. Speaking of EA, I wonder who's idea it was to add a season pass to this game which is the same price as the actual game. Does it sound like something EA would do? If releasing **** and charging £50 for a season pass is the new way forward then I fear for future big releases. Wait,I feel like I've said this before?

Fallout 46
Mar 24, 2016
Here's an unpopular opinion, Fallout 4 is not that good. The huge jump that the Fallout games made when jumping from 2 to 3 was mesmerising. Fallout 3 made every decision count, and there were quests that really mattered and, in my opinion, were actually more interesting than the main story. None of this is present in Fallout 4. The dialogue choices are atrocious, and no matter what answer you choose to most questions it does not matter as the game will pretty much put you where you need to be. Character customization is brilliant, and the graphics within post-apocalypse Boston are fantastic. But that is what we've come to expect from next-generation consoles, what matters here is the game. The workbenches to enhance your weapons and armour are great additions, and the fact that this gives junk a purpose in the game as you can use junk when enhancing weapons and armour is a very clever prospect. The settlement building is okay, but I'm sure people did not buy this game to play a budget version of The Sims. Apart from all of this, Fallout 4 does not improve on anything Fallout 3 had to offer, and in some aspects even regressed rather than progressed. It is not a bad game, not by any stretch of the imagination, just highly disappointing.

Killzone: Shadow Fall5
Mar 24, 2016
I would write as much as I possibly can about Killzone: Shadow Fall, but I honestly can not remember half of it. It is not a bad game, but nothing about it is good. The gameplay is solid enough, as it has been in previous Killzone games. The graphics in this launch title really do show off what the next-generation of consoles can really do and, credit where credit is due, the world that you play in is beautiful. However, that is all this game really has to offer. I can not recall one character's name, the plot of the game, or any interesting gameplay mechanic. It is an average game that is boosted by its beauty, but held back by its lack of originality.

Gears of War 29
Mar 24, 2016
The highlight of the Gears of War series, GOW 2 picks up and improves on the first instalment of the franchise by adding in four-player co-op for you and 3 friends to play, but if you're going solo then there is a hugely enjoyable campaign with some ridiculous boss fights, and all the blood and gore of the original. Though some aspects of the story may be forgotten or lost in the shuffle, the main characters are once again some of the finest characters in video games, from the gritty realistic versions of Mario and Luigi in Marcus and Dom, to the unforgettable Cole Train and the sarcastic Baird. The addition and improvement of the multiplayer is also a welcome addition, and everything about Gears of War 2 shows off everything that gaming can do, in fantastic fashion.

Halo 39
Mar 24, 2016
The reason that I purchased an Xbox 360 over a PS3, Halo 3 expands and completes the original chapter of the Master Chief in a way that will leave you wanting more and more. The campaign is as solid and interesting as previous entries in the series, and the relationship between the Master Chief, Cortana and others will keep you immersed in what you are playing. The uniqueness in the multiplayer however, really brings Halo 3 to another level. Its 'highest skill' ranking system allows players to always be playing other gamers of the same level as themselves, therefore never getting drawn away from the game because of other players being more advanced than them. It still provides motivation to get that high skill all the way up to 50 however, to really show who's boss. Custom maps are another highlight of this excellent FPS, and I personally had most fun on these custom games with friends. Downloaded from ****, the custom games are a true draw towards Halo 3, as if it didn't have enough draws already. All in all, if you haven't played Halo 3, what exactly have you been doing?

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare9
Mar 24, 2016
Though the franchise as a whole may have outstayed its welcome due to it being a money-making machine, there's no escaping the fact that Call of Duty 4 is exceptional in every aspect that it attempts to target. Single-player is by no means a drag, and provides memorable characters that you will care about in the line of duty, as well as some jaw-dropping sequences. The real highlight here however, is the multiplayer. Creating your own classes to suit your style of play, or to suit the map you're going to be playing on if you've planned that far ahead, Modern Warfare will provide you with endless hours of entertainment and fantastic first-person shooting mechanics that is only rivalled by Halo 3. An absolute blast whether you are playing solo or with friends, and a true legend within the multiplayer gaming world.

BioShock Infinite9
Mar 24, 2016
Dealing with controversial themes as well as a difficult time-travel aspect to the game, Bioshock Infinite stamps its authority on the first-person shooter genre and then some. A beautiful city to play through what I can only describe as the best storyline I have ever played in a game, leaves the player wanting more and more once it is done. Elizabeth is the best AI companion that you will ever play with as, not only can she take care of herself and is never a damsel in distress, she will assist you in finding health and salts for your vigors. Though the title 'Infinite' and some aspects of the story which I will not discuss does make it slightly disappointing that there are not more varieties of endings within the game, and the fact that you are on a track means you can't really explore the gorgeous city of Columbia, Bioshock Infinite is the highlight of the Bioshock series, and an absolute must-play.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt9
Mar 24, 2016
A near-perfect experience on console, The Witcher 3 concludes Geralt's story in a way that makes you care about every response you give and every character that you meet. The story provided by a side-quest puts a game like Destiny to shame, as every part of this game has a meaning and a purpose. Though the camera system and controls can sometimes be unresponsive and make for some hilarious glitches, once you enter this world (that is 4x bigger than Skyrim) you will not be able to put your controller down once you begin that quest to find Ciri, meeting memorable and loveable characters along the way. A true must-play.

Super Mario 6410
Mar 24, 2016
The standard setter for all 3D platform games to come, Super Mario 64 develops a fantastic camera system and tight controls for the best experience on the Nintendo 64, in my opinion. Nintendo do it best when it comes to launch titles, and the time you spend trying to capture all 120 stars will be rewarding and fun. For me, it is still one of the best games ever created.

If I had to summarize Portal 2 in one word, it would be intelligent. Some of the most hilarious voice acting I've ever heard just adds to a heart-felt and just outright brilliant game.

Epic. Spectacular. Breath-taking. Dragons. I could go on with words that can sum up this game, but what I will say is if there is ANYONE who hasn't played Skyrim yet then they will have no idea how open-world a game can be. A gorgeous landscape with quests left, right and centre, Skyrim immerses you in a world unlike any other, and throws everything at you until you're begging for even more. Also, did I mention dragons? Everything about this game is what makes The Legend of Zelda series so fantastic, and then some. Though some might argue it's just a "darker Ocarina of Time", Twilight Princess captures you and sends you into a journey that will make you glued to that Wii remote. Motion controls have never been so crisp, and it does give hope for the future of the technology, despite it being a port from the GameCube. Destiny5
Mar 24, 2016
What happened to this game? How can the most hyped game for years, end up to be nothing more than completely average? It's ****, nothing more. The first person shooter mechanics are admittedly solid, and will feel instantly familiar to Halo or old Call of Duty players, so credit where credit is due. Post-update, the looting system is much more generous than it was, and that feeling when you find a legendary weapon or piece of armour is something you will want to experience. However, the content in this release of Destiny is laughable, and the fact that Bungie and Activision will try to justify this with a season pass is a very worrying aspect for future big releases. Horrendous voice acting by that one from Game of Thrones does not help this game's cause either, even he sounds bored. This could have been an even lower score if the Vault of Glass wasn't so enjoyable, but the fact that you can't matchmake for it and MUST gather a group of 6 is quite bizarre. 5 is an average and disappointing score, for an average and disappointing game.

Tom Clancy's The Division6
Mar 24, 2016
Far, far, FAR stronger than Destiny at launch. However, The Division suffers from a lot of the same problems that Destiny both originally suffered, and continued to suffer after the (much improved) Taken King DLC. Starting with positives, gun customization and mods give looting a huge dimension to expand upon. The third person shooting is completely solid, and the cover system will feel very familiar to any Gears of War veterans. Perks and talents can be adapted to suit any style of play, rather than a black or white, pick this or pick this, kind of class system which is excellent. Not to mention, the world is absolutely gorgeous and, whether you love the game or not, you will spend hours invested in this broken New York City. Now for the negatives. Though the world is brilliant, the "story" involved in the game is fairly laughable. It might seem interesting at first, but if you can tell me one characters name by the end then I will be impressed. PvP is unbelievably punishing, and it makes me wonder why it wasn't just included in the regular game, as it would justify the 'always online' requirements as well as leave the Dark Zone open for ACTUAL PvP. Bosses are bullet sponges with absolutely no variety, and a thoroughly underwhelming final boss. Lastly, character customization is hilariously shallow, considering the effort put into the gun customization. I was going to give this game an 8/10, but the end game content as well as the disappointing Dark Zone pulled the score down to a low 7, lucky not to be a 6.
