The best film with Blanc so far, but less fun than the other two. I thought I´d like to see one of those films with more gravitas and a better mistery in the centre, now I`m confused: this is a very good film, but not in the broad, refreshing, sunny way of its predecessors.

That cellar deserves a better film (and so do the three leads, probably)! 70ies sleaze with a bigger budget (and the A24 label) . The dullest example of the "wise psychopath" this side of "se7en". No, "creep" is NOT the same song as "The air that I breathe". No, religion is NOT about control or blind faith. No, decent lines of dialogue for young women in torture chambers do NOT make a decent film.

I think the film is stronger than most critics imply, Yes, the story/conspiracy doesn`t make sense in a logical way, but it`s totally coherent in its paranoid, guil-ridden romanticism. Yes, it´s a kitschy, trippy, tragic love story, but that`s the appeal. The violence is the problem here. It`s too graphic, too sadistic, to random even for a revenge movie, maybe exspecially for a revenge movie. The violence caused by the hero resembles terrorist attacks or killing sprees without a motive and that kills the film.

It starts very strong and could be one of those genrebending dreamlike films that give the genre its good name. But the third act is a mess. Anyway, the general atmosphere, the pace and the scares at the beginning, the setting, the design and the performances are worth it.

Don`t breathe in space. Unpleasant. While the four ALIEN films were various kinds of art - punk - albums about sexuality and identity and the prequels were Wagnerian Prog Rock-operas about mortality, integrity and evolution, this is shlock metal about sexual fears and the ugliness of the human body. Great sets, a fantastic sound design, two or three really effective action sequences. The original and crazy parts of the music (those that don`t ape ALIENS) were also very good. Integrates some deep cuts from the game ALIEN: ISOLATION and the old ALIEN EXPERIENCE funhouse. But cynism and false sentimentality instead of the bleak humanism of the former films and no new ideas (except for: more creatures and way more and more problematic metaphors for ****). A Rob Zombie - movie with suspense and teen horror - tropes. The first ALIEN I couldn`t like at all (haven`t seen the PREDATOR - crossovers).

A very fresh concept, and an impressive study of a breakdown, The portrait of vulnerability everywhere as underbelly of exhausted suburbian prettyness is rather sublime, and the cast is very strong. But this is an ugly film, in more than one sense, and there is not much to see on the screen

This film is as feminist, anti-capitalist, funny and thrilling as any other BARBIE - Ad. The empress is naked (and lacks genitalia, but wait for possibly the dumbest punchline in movie- history!). A Greta Gerwig - film as imagined by an AI from the "Manosphere". The set -design and some musical numbers are outstanding, and Rhea Perlman gives a good performance. Beside of that, nothing here works.

Franz Kafka`s "The Castle" isn`t a Coffeetable Book with tasteful pictures of Czech`s most beautiful castles and cutest animals and with a sideplot about a strong woman finding her own way. It`s impressive how "The Banshees" mixes an almost abstract parable (I don`t understand, btw - is Colm supposed to express the viewpoint of 1923`s IRA?) with luscious scenery, hypnotic music and a emphatic look at pets and their owners. It just doesn`t add up at all, in my opinion.

These films are not Whodunits but broad satire in the guise of Whodunits, - with a nice protagonist each and spectacular set design, so they are not as bleak as other satire. No complicated time tables here, no long monologues by the suspects, nothing but the atmosphere, the setting and the mean caricatures of old fashioned mysteries, plus a gimmicky use of different perspectives. It works, I think. It´s just about an hour too long.

The first movie that`s only fat with no calories. Like James Bond without the artsy stuff or a Michael Bay picture without all the humanistic philosophy. Probably written by an algorythm on a really bad day. A great cast and a great crew should be asahmed- except for Chris Evans. He`s the best villain since Ming the Mercyless or Snow White`s stepmother.

Thew film really looks great and tries to say something new about (I assume) sexuality, objectification, ageism and the old art vs. life- discussion, but doesn´t make a lot of sense and is ****. And not in a good way. The most introverted horror auteur wants to be a cool kid and is acting weird. What a shame. But beautful shots of lakes and corridors and greasy cabins.

If I was hopping through parallel worlds, I wouldn`t limit myself to a) learn new fighting moves, b) have the same domestic discussions again and again. Characters, motivations and lessons are paper thin, but some of the absurdist stuff is just plain wonderful.

Marvel Movies begin to feel like Marvel Comics at the time when they literarlly went bankrupt (when Spider-Man was his own clone and Professor X a supervillain): no beginnings, no ends, false deaths, false villains, corny "seriousness" and way too many false apocalypses. Anyway, this one offers dumb fun and instant emotions, a great kraken and Dr. Strange`s coat- and even about 10 minutes of interesting multiverses.

This is the most impressive animation/live action - hybrid yet, there are tons of great moments, and the movie has its heart in the right place. But the really disturbing core idea (that you won`t see as a metaphor reaching beyond the world of animation, for your own sanity) doesn`t really gel with the warm silliness, and there is no plot.

An extremely funny, ironic and rather melancholic requiem for classic modernism and its belief in art, love, humanism and intellectual discoveries. The amount of detail is insane, each frame is crammed with ideas.

This is less an adaptation of the book but of the David Lynch - Film from 1984. It contains the same setting-before-people - approach, the same kinky design for the Bene Gesserit, the same key scenes, the same foreshadowing in Paul`s dreams, the same fixation on sandworms etc.. But while Lynch made a Horror film out of Dune, adding gruesome and disturbing details, Villeneuve made a War Movie. All these intrigues and backstories just lead to some chaotic bloodbaths and annoying dialogues that sound as deep as in Conan The Barbarian. There are truly beautiful scenes, there is an unbelievable cast, everything is much more clearer than in Lynch`s film (doesn`t say much). The film really is an intense experience. But it is slow and joyless, it doesn`t do justice to Herbert`s utterly strange book, and Zimmer`s ethno-pomp makes my ears ring. A disappointment, especially after BLADE RUNNER 2049.

A shallow echo of all the little edgy thrillers since the 90ies. Alison Brie`s performance is gorgeous.
