The new Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers movie is a delightful, zippy and genuinely fun thing

Reminiscent of The Happytime Murders but actually watchable, this zippy, highly amiable rodent noir turns out to be a delightful surprise. It flings a lot of ideas at the screen — and most of them stick.

Most Disney live action remakes are bad and horrible, but not Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers. This is a good crossover film with cameos. I hope they'll give more cameos to Bluey, The Simpsons, Scooby-Doo, Isabelle, Tom Nook and the animal villagers from Animal Crossing, Angry Birds, Tommy Pickles from Rugrats, Moshi Monsters, along with the Moshlings, Buster Bumblechops and Dr. Strangeglove and Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory.

Other films have skewered an industry that’s intent on bludgeoning audiences with their own fading memories, but only Chip ’n Dale actually gives those memories a new life.

Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers isn't the first movie to do what it's doing -- with live-action and animation sharing the screen, helping nurture a meta-comedy adventure -- but it's damn fun and one of the cleverest uses of elder pop culture properties in a while.

If you must reboot an over 30-year-old Disney Channel cartoon like Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers, you could do much worse than looking to “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” for inspiration. But it is a high bar and though Chip ‘n Dale might not reach the heights of that Robert Zemeckis film, it is still a pleasant surprise stuffed to the brim with pop culture references that children of the Chip ’n Dale era may enjoy.

While the creators do their darndest to make an animated version of “Adaptation,” they’ve instead made an animated version of “Space Jam: Legacy”–a series of callbacks to IP that serves no other purpose than to remind you that they exist.

Just because you can shove a bunch of IPs together, should you? Especially when the motivation is a 90-minute joke about beloved TV series, with a lot of cheese-as-cocaine gags. Who is it for? People who still laugh at uncanny valley jokes. For those that don't, no reason to worry, because most of the references will be explained to you.

The first animated movie that made laugh in a long time. I love RR since my childhood and really enjoyed this take.

Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers is a charming and mostly clever family film inspired by buddy cop movies and the classic, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Its meta-commentary on reboots, nostalgia, and modern trends in animation adds some insight, though its allusions to the real-life tragedy of Bobby Driscoll is a bit of a strange choice for a product made under Disney's umbrella.

A movie no one was asking for, and yet no one expected it to be so...pretty good.

Oh wow it's Chip N Dale. Look, it's Ugly Sonic, he was funny. Gee whiz it's an NES, games were fun on that system. Look, it's a car from Cars, remember Lightning McQueen? Kachow! Oh look it's Luke and Leia, Star Wars was just the best. Is that My Little Pony? My weird overweight nephew likes that a lot for some reason, he keeps one in a jar too. Doc McStuffins! Time for your checkup, time for your checkup! ROGER RABBIT! WOOOOOOOOO
