Grant’s turn in Heretic is not just a great role that commands attention, it’s also a part that requires a dash of that Hugh Grant charm to pull off.

Heretic may seek to rock your faith in the divine, but it truly fortifies one’s belief in Hugh Grant.

So beautifully constructed and acted in the first half is “Heretic” that you won’t really notice when it turns into a horror movie.

The overall tension allows us to skim over the flaws and foibles in the script, especially when the resolution is so hard-fought.

Even as the movie itself unnecessarily spirals further into madness and attendant plot holes—perhaps inspired by the wackadoo escalations of recent horror such as Malignant, Barbarian, and Longlegs—Grant makes for a genially deranged host.

Shaving too fast with an old razor blade, I’ve had more scares than anything in Heretic from my bathroom mirror.

Not completely original, thought Sophie Thatcher was basically doing a Companion origin story for a minute, but some interesting ideas and kept me guessing. Had heard the ending falls apart, and that tracks.

Despite a good premise and strong performances, I found Heretic tedious to the point of wanting to stop watching after the first act, but seeing Hugh Grant play cat and mouse made the film more watchable. At the end of the day, if I pay the ticket I want to see the movie until the end.

This movie is excuse my French ****. Started kind of cool but at the end its just like a freshman year in college debate about religion vibe.

Do not waste time watching. Highly overrated film. Drags on and on. Lots of mumbo jumbo like religions. The ending a cop out.
