SummaryTo live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.

It is infectiously delightful, even if you’re someone who might typically steer clear of chipper, pink-hued flicks. Somehow Gerwig has struck a balance between unhinged whimsy, deep humanity and comedic bliss. It’s funny, it will make you cry and it feels almost like a rebellion.

Gerwig has created a film that takes Barbie, praises its contribution as an idea to our world, but also criticizes its faults, while also making a film that celebrates being a woman and all the difficulties and beauty that includes.

Brilliant! I loved the characters, the story, and the critique of our society through the parallels with Barbie's world.

Great message to little girls, and children generally. Powerful. And no, conservatives, it is not a children's movie, nor was it advertised as such. Take of your chauvinistic, MAGA glasses and see the reality women have been fighting for years.

Everything about Barbie is crafted with both mass appeal and personal insight, much like the doll, resulting in a movie that knows how to please.

Gerwig has crafted a warm, funny and cinematically rich film – if one whose narrative and political ambitions are far less radical than it would like us to suppose.

Whatever you think of “Barbie,” the mere existence of this smart, funny, conceptually playful, sartorially dazzling comic fantasy speaks to the irreverent wit and meta-critical sensibility of its director.

All told, Barbie is a fascinating movie, even if it is occasionally a little frustrating and often more fun to look at than it is laugh-out-loud funny. I think my daughters will probably enjoy it quite a bit — when they watch it when they’re a few years older.

The packaging of “Barbie” is a lot more fun than the tedious toy inside the box.

I love these girly movies!!!!! Boys and girls learn meaningful messages about their power. Girls’ power is very strong!! Not only boys!!! Just like Elsa in Frozen. So so powerful!! They are the true Queens!!!

It insists upon itself.

Weird try hard movie that doesn’t actually say what it thinks it’s saying. Equality in this movie pretends to be achieved by one side having power over the other side instead of co-existing. This movie can go beach itself off.

After a second watch, my liking of this movie fades. The plot is fragmented and contradictory, the tone ranges from preachy to musical, and the writing is ironically self centered. The comedy and visual pop of this movie are the only parts worth keeping.
