Valorant has dethroned CS:GO as the best esport and shooter. Many people like to describe this game as a blend of OW and CS:GO which is quite an unfair comparison. It does have the same search and destroy, economy-based gameplay of Counter Strike and many different agents each with their own abilities to choose from. Valorant's gun-play mechanics are easy to pick up for people new to the genre and there is an agent that fits everybody's playstyle. A lot of people feel the game doesn't have enough content (4 maps, 11 agents) which is true, but Riot is constantly adding new characters and maps to the game. Valorant has some charm about it that can't be explained that makes it feel like a fresh experience even though its really just a combination of multiple formulas. This game has been review bombed, so please don't take the user score seriously.

Kingdom Hearts is very fun at times, but quite boring, repetitive, and confusing at others. The designs are very pretty and have a lot of charm to them, which is always a plus, but interacting with the world feels clunky and, oftentimes, strange. The game hardly ever makes sense when it comes to what to do next and has you interact with items and set-pieces in strange and convoluted ways. The combat is fun, but surprisingly tough and manages to be quite unforgiving. This isn't a bad game, though. If you have a guide by your side, and a lot of spare time, the characters, story, dialogue, and world around you may be enough to pull you in.

User ScoreDenvers
Feb 25, 2022
If you're looking for the greatest Pokémon game ever made, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is not it. While the game is very fun and refreshing, like all of the games before it, it eventually grows to feel too repetitive and unfun. The gameplay loop is to gather resources, catch Pokémon, complete research tasks, and repeat. This gameplay loop, for the first 15 hours or so, is very fun and addicting, but by the end of the game, it does not feel as if there is enough variety within the core loop to keep you engaged. Likewise, the side quests in the game are pretty typical and unengaging, which is a huge bummer for those of us who like to complete a game's extra content. The boss battles in the game are super fun - while you still battle in these fights, you also have to, as a trainer, dodge enemy attacks in an almost bullet-hell like way. Although they aren't too difficult, they add a change of pace to the game's main loop and rewards players for thinking on their feet. Overall, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is quite a fun game that suffers from a sense of burnout that many Pokémon games before it have made me feel.

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
8
User ScoreDenvers
Feb 25, 2022
3D platformers, although rare in modern times, used to be the biggest genre in gaming. From Mario, to Ratchet and Clank, 3D platformers were all the rage in the late 1990s and the early 2000s. Jak and Daxter: the Precursor legacy was Naughty Dog's (of Crash Bandicoot fame, and, more recently, The Last of Us and Uncharted) attempt to create iconic mascots for the PlayStation 2. Although the iconic duo has faded to obscurity in recent years, Jak and Daxter was once a big hit - and for good reason, too. Jak and Daxter: the Precursor Legacy is a very solid and well crafted 3D platformer. Many games as old as this have not aged very well, but for the most part, Jak and Daxter holds up extremely well today. The camera does its job without getting in the way and the controls are superb and allow for many different types of attacks and movement. Older mascot platformers, such as Super Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie, while great in their own ways, have quite clunky movement compared to modern games. Jak and Daxter does not suffer from this. This game is a collectathon, which is a type of platformer in which the player tries to obtain as many collectables as they can, if not all of them. Each stage is an open environment with a handful of collectables to find. These collectables are usually mission based. The missions are fairly straightforward and are even easy to complete without instructions or even knowing what one is supposed to do. For the time, the graphics of Jak and Daxter were very good. The animations are all fluid and the world feels real and alive. Voice acting is also very solid - none of the NPCs are particularly bland. The writing, although quite witty, isn't particularly grand or fantastic, especially when it comes to the story. Still, during my playthrough, there were many times where the game gave me a good chuckle. If you like collectathons or 3D platformers, Jak and Daxter: the Precursor Legacy is a great game that I'm sure you will enjoy. I also feel as if this is a great entry into the genre, as it controls quite well despite its age.

Insomniac Games has done it again! Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is a very fun, exiting, and emotional game that, unfortunately, overstays its welcome. Gunplay in this game is extrodinary, extremely engaging, and never gets old. The directing is superb, and the writing, although occasionally too cliche or cringy, is very good. The game has its downfalls, however. Rift Apart is quite glitchy and drags on towards the end. Rift Apart could have told its story in 6 hours, but stretches it out to 9-10 with surprise turns in the second half that feel unnecessary and seem like padding. If the game's story weren't so stretched, I would feel inclined to give this game a higher score. Overall, the game is a blast and is worth your time if you enjoy chaotic shooters and/or PS2-era Sony Mascot games.

Supergiant Games is known for its consistency in the gaming landscape. All of their releases have been met with overwhelming amounts of praise and love by fans of the studio and newcomers alike. Transistor failed to impress me like the company's other games have. I'm not a fan of the way that Transistor and Bastion tell their stories as I have trouble focusing on the game and a constant narrative at the same time. I was able to look past this with Bastion because it excelled in other ways that Transistor did not. While this game has many interesting and unique mechanics that I have never seen in any other game ever, the boring and slow fights combined with the lack of world identity ruin the experience for me. Each combat feels exactly the same, partly because my strategy always works perfectly, and partly because every area looks identical. Transistor is a disappointing game because it is every close to being good. The game's unique mechanics make it appear super interesting at first, but after realizing how little the game has to offer content-wise, Transistor disappoints on many levels. I have no clue why people don't like this game - it's so good! I'm not big into beat em' ups, but Battletoads makes the action feel simple yet challenging. The humor in this game is pretty hit or miss, but when it hits, it hits hard. The hand-drawn art style is very charming, and to a degree, reminds me of Cuphead. Puzzles are fun to complete, the minigames are great, and this is overall just a really fun couch co-op game. I understand that fans of the original may be disappointing, but this is a good game, even if it is not similar to its predecessors. Crosscode is an interesting indie RPG that takes place inside an MMO. You play as Lea, a girl who has lost her memory and is stuck in a video game world where she is the only one who is not being controlled by an outside player. This game is a JRPG with very heavy narrative elements but also manages to feel like a real MMO where you play with other real people. The combat is fun enough that griding doesn't feel tedious and is actually rather enjoyable. Quests are everywhere and are some of the most fun I have ever seen in gaming, period. This game's main downfall are it's puzzles. Some are really clever while others are really poorly designed. Regardless of that, they are really, really hard. In retrospect, none of the solutions feel fair or obvious but strange and tedious. These puzzles are typically located in dungeons which are a staple of MMOs but feel nothing like an MMO dungeon. They feel like long, over-complex Zelda dungeons, and by long, I mean SERIOUSLY long - you get a special reward for beating it quickly if you take less than an hour and a half! If it weren't for the puzzles and dungeons this would easily be one of my all-time favorites. , I would like to state that I have not played the original Battle for Bikini Bottom. Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated is an excellent 3D platformed that suffers a lot from sloppy coding and poor use of the very powerful Unreal Engine. Each level of this game is well crafted and offers a lot to do with many side quests that actually feel rewarding. The controls, although clunky at times, are pretty solid and are better than most other games in its genre. The game's main collectibles, Golden Spatula's, are very scarcFirstlye but rewarding and not to difficult to get your hands on. Earlier on in the game, I found myself clipping into the sides of objects and being stuck for multiple seconds and a buddy of mine had an issue where his whole screen would go black and the only way to fix it was to restart his game. Not only did the black screen glitch happen once, but it happened twice. My only other complaint about the game is that the game takes between 10 and 20 seconds to respawn you after you die or when you are loading into a new level. This is almost unbearable and I hope that, if anything gets patched, its this. Overall, the game is a very sold experience and is the best 3D platformer since Super Mario: Odyssey. Mush dash is an addictive rythem game that has you telling yourself that you are only going to play one more level before waking up and realizing you have been playing for hours. Muse Dash is full of content for a game in its genre - every level has 3 difficulty modes along with a handful of **** unique to the level. If the 60+ unlockable songs aren't enough for you, there is paid DLC which adds literally hundreds upon hundreds of new songs to the game. For the price of $2.99, it packs a whole lot of content and a whole lot of fun. I would definately reccomend you pick this game up.

Super Mario 3D Land

Super Mario 3D Land is both one of the most fun Mario games I have ever played while being one of the most dissapointing. A 2 1/2D Enviornment (Not fully 3D) is super fun to play on and mess around with. The game feels like a natural evolution to the 2D Mario formula that I hope they continue to improve on. My main issue with the game is that is lacks content and has annoying and excessive padding. The game, without filler, is about 3.5-5 hours long. To make up for this, is is required of you to go back to levels you have already beaten, each level multiple times over, to gather collectible to progress. As fun as the levels are, playing the same levels over and over in a short period of time is super annoying and tedious. I don't know if I would reccomend this game - if you want a really fun Mario game and don't mind the tedious grind, I would pick this game up. Otherwise, I would probably stay away from this title.

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove

Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove may be one of the best value games every created. For only 40 dollars, it comes with the base game along with 3 full DLC campaigns and a fighting game! The platforming feels very fair yet challenging and the boss battles are the best I have ever seen besides for Cuphead (and possibly Hollow Knight). Many people compare this to games of old - it does share many similarites, but is not quite the same. Shovel Knight takes the classic Mega Man/ Mario platforming genre and polishes it so that every aspect of thew game seems fair. There is much to adore in this Kickstarter-funded game and it lives up to the praise it is given.

Ultimate Alliance 3 is a fun team-building ARPG with minimal depth. The gameplay is fun enough that you want to keep going but is not addicting by any means. The story is, admitably, pretty poor and seems to drag on for far too long. You can only control 1 of your 4 party characters at a time, which is fine, but the AI is very poor which makes your deaths feel unwarented. Overall, it's certainly not a bad game, and if you like Marvel and ARPGs, its a fine game.

The game is quite unpolished and has a quite boring single player experience, but damn, is it fun to play with friends. Not only can you find super goofy ways to deliver packages with pals, but it doubles as a goofy sandbox game. If you're looking for a goofy physics-based game to play with friends, buy this. If you are not looking to goof around with friends, however, this isn't for you.

Minecraft Dungeons is a dungeon crawling ARPG very similar to the Diablo franchise. Fight Minecraft baddies, gain loot, and level your way up! This game is quite fun, especially in couch co-op and is a great introductory game to the dungeon-crawling genre. I had a lot of fun mindlessly bashing at monsters and the game feels really good to play on controller. The game is not without its major faults, however. The game is VERY short - about 5 hours long. Considering the game is only 20 dollars, this isn't the end of the world, but its certainly worth noting. Progression feels almost meaningless - you never have to go back to old levels to grind and good loot is not very hard to find. The story, although an interesting concept, is not fleshed out almost at all besides the opening cinematic - this was a major let down. Expect glitches and issues that hinder the game experience drastically every-so-often (e.g. getting caught in a hole with no escape, random particle effects.) This game takes many creative liberties as compared to its source material, which at times can be very cool, while sometimes feeling out of place. If you're looking for a fun couch co-op experience to play with friends and family, This game is certainly a good option. If you are looking for a large, sophisticated dungeon-crawlier, however, I would look elsewhere. I'm exited to see what Mojang works on in the future.

Dead Cells may very well be both the best Metroidvania and the best rouge-like game I have ever played. With it's charming visuals and it's stellar combat, this game leaves very little to be desired. Progression in this game feels WONDERFUL compared to other rougelikes and manages to feel very rewarding and punishing at the same time. I would definetly recommend this to anybody who is a fan of rouge-likes or Metroidvanias.
