Нынче этот жанр очень популярен так как полноценную игру в этом жанре может сделать даже студент в одиночку и нужно чем-то выделятся на общем фоне, чтобы стать успешным. Amid Evil выделяется сразу своим умопомрачительным ретро визуалом, это гениально и очень круто. Я не знаю как они этого добились, но стилистика здесь это просто нечто, дизайн и прочий визуал тоже моё почтение, это нечто что я вообще нигде не видел. Однако на этом безусловные плюсы проекта заканчиваются, но уже ради визуала поиграть стоит. Геймплей это помесь игры heretic и quake: шмаляешь колдунством из всяких посохов в полноценном 3D, порядочно в целом (но я бы предпочёл огнестрел). Всё боссы невероятно простые, левелдизайн тут порой душный и запутанный, но чисто визуально тоже впечатляет. Локации очень разнообразные, однако есть душные и персонально для меня крайне неэстетичные, ну тут кому как. Музыка мне персонально не запомнилась, дизайн врагов обычный, можно было и поинтереснее. В целом действительно достойный проект в своей нише, даже если не угараете по бумер шутерам то чисто ради визуального восторга поиграть стоит – 7/10.

I played AMID EVIl just now! i got 3 hours of playtime currently. I'm absolutely loving the game! the visual presentation is on point! the Fantasy art style on top of the retro graphics just comes down together and packs a great gaming experience. I'm not in love with the sountrack but i did enjoy all of them. Some of them were more memorable than the other, but all did a good job at setting the stage for the game's atmosphere. This game is great because it's basically just Doom 1993 with a fantasy visual presentation. I love it! The level design was really clever. Confusing but not in a bad way! everything just comes down together in an interconnected level design, with dozens of enemies waiting to slaughter you.

TLDR: The closest thing to a modern Heretic — and I love Heretic, so I want more games like it! Pros: + It’s basically a modern Heretic + I love Heretic Cons: – I just want more

Amid Evil does everything possible to let the player have a blast in the intricate landscapes of its mystical realms, tearing through a paper-thin quest to exterminate the corruption of the land while tackling the more important task battling and exploring every square inch of the map.

No matter whether you’re just touring through these realms of magic or going for full mastery, Amid Evil is a blast from start to finish. Everything from the moody soundtrack to the heart-pounding circle strafing just clicks.

Weapons are unique and feel good to use. Some enemies are satisfying to take down. Environmental art can be mesmerizing at times. Music evolves and is amazing. Andrew Hulshult fan right here! :D What makes me subtract from 10?
-After playing for a while it becomes a chore.
-Bosses are too simple and easy to defeat, even in Evil difficulty.
-There's reading material and the font choice doesn't favor fast reading.
-You can get lost in some levels, not knowing where to continue further in the levels.

Even the most simple melee enemy has a spammable projectile attack AND what's worse is, the screen goes COMPLETELY red when you take damage from a projectile attack, or from a heavy melee attack for that matter. I lose where I am very quickly because of this and I cannot react properly to my attackers. Besides that, I don't really like the level design. The areas are too large with nothing in them. The weapons feel too clunky and the animations take too long. This game looked promising to me as a DOOM fan but I just can't recommend it if you're looking for satisfying, responsive, fast-paced action. I quit the game in the second level when I died before I could even react because my screen was completely red and I couldn't even see where the enemies were.
