I wasn't the biggest fan of first "Top Gun" movie. I saw it like 5 years ago so for me it wasn't nostalgic or anything. It was just OK movie and nothing more. Today i saw "Top Gun: Maverick" (2022) in cinema. And it blew me away. This movie was incredible. It literally put a smile on my face. Action scenes in the air were the best i ever saw of this type of action. Directing by Joseph Kosinski was perfect. Music was on spot. Cinematography was gorgeous. I loved how actually calm and quite this movie was, until it wasn't and transition between scenes, acts, calm and action was perfect. Acting was great. This is a movie making as good as it gets. Was it predictable? Yes. But at the same time i was excited and glued to the screen during its whole 2 hours run time. Overall, "Top Gun: Maverick" is a Hollywood blockbuster done right. Its a Hollywood action adventure movie in every possible way, yet this time its done incredibly good. What a terrific sequel.

Finally, in a world full of boring CGI, Top Gun: Maverick is a film that truly takes your breath away again – in the sense of a stunning cinematic experience. This isn’t about the story (which, in my opinion, works well enough, even if it’s not particularly sophisticated), but rather about a rollercoaster-like spectacle with mostly real aerial sequences instead of CGI. What you see on the screen, and what you hear and even feel rumbling down in your stomach, is simply impressive and almost presses you into your seat. I literally went back to enjoy it three times in the cinema, and not once did it get boring. I’m already waiting for a re-release just to experience it again. I have to admit that I also really love the first Top Gun and feel nostalgic about it, so I naturally have a soft spot for this sequel. But honestly, anyone with even the slightest interest in aviation should see this film. And something more: even my wife, who usually has zero interest in this sort of thing, was impressed because it’s just so well and thrillingly staged. And if my wife enjoys a movie like this – then that says it all: 10/10.

Top Gun: Maverick soars higher than it has any right to, constructing a mostly terrific sequel 36 years later (including a Covid release delay), using a good movie, not a great one, as its jumping-off point. That might not be enough to take your breath away, but as brawny summer entertainment goes, it comes shockingly close.

Cruise once referred to the '86 film as "an amusement park ride ... a joy ride [which] shouldn't be looked at beyond that," and for audiences who can watch "Top Gun: Maverick" through that lens and appreciate it as a piece of propulsive action cinema, this could end up being one of the most crowd-pleasing and satisfying movie experiences of the year.

Top Gun: Maverick is not a dislikable movie, by any means: The cast is charming, the military stuff is convincing, the action sequences are, as intended, pretty astounding: In the proper theater (I saw it in IMAX) it will be a physical experience, literally, one that may lead to armrests being shredded by white-knuckling audiences in cinemas all over the world. But it’s also a little depressing, because of where it says movies are going, what it says about the lack of creativity making its way on screen, and what a precarious balance movie theaters are in.

Entertaining? Yes. Good movie? No. It IS NOT Academy material, nor Academy performances, because people "liked" it. It received 2.5 Stars in 1986 and this is 100% a "remake". It is, Maverick grows up and acts responsible with a forced diversity cast. The rest of the movie is the same from cliched scenes to identical dialogue. Academy for cinematography, sure. A fun movie, yes. Best Movie/Actor? Come On!!
