X-Men ’97 is a nostalgic return to the animated series from the 90s, a direct continuation of that 1992-1997 era, and it knows exactly who it wants to hit emotionally. It is aimed straight at late millennials and early Gen Z viewers who grew up with shows like X-Men, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, Iron Man, and The Incredible Hulk. These were the heroes of my childhood. Spider-Man was always my number one, but the X-Men were right behind him. And yes, I am absolutely biased here. There is no point pretending otherwise. The creators clearly wanted to play with that nostalgia and bring back as many viewers as possible. The risk is obvious: it can easily feel like reheated leftovers. And honestly, after the first episode, I almost wanted to turn it off. It did not click for me immediately. The beginning felt chaotic. The show throws a swarm of characters, places, memories, callbacks, and familiar faces at you, almost as if it wants the viewer to keep pointing at the screen and saying, “Oh, I remember that one.” For a moment, I was not even sure if there was a strong central plot or if the whole thing was mostly a nostalgia checklist. Thankfully, that feeling does not last. For me, the series really starts to work after episode four. The action picks up, the emotional stakes become clearer, and suddenly I was fully in. I started watching episode after episode, and at one point I almost burned my rice because I was too focused on what was happening on screen. That probably says more than any polished review sentence could. That said, the pacing is not perfect. Sometimes it feels like too much is happening at once. Too many events, too many emotional moments, too many big dramatic beats packed into one season. It almost feels like the creators wanted to make one season and throw everything into it, even though we already know this is not the end. In that sense, the rush was unnecessary. But even with that criticism, the overall story works. The events feel coherent, the emotional line is strong, and the season kept me hooked. Visually, X-Men ’97 does a fantastic job of feeling modern while still imitating the old 90s animation style. It is smoother, sharper, and cleaner, but still carries the spirit of the original. The animation plays on nostalgia without feeling lazy. And the music? That is just unfair. The intro and outro are basically emotional weapons. Damn, they knew exactly what they were doing. It feels like the same thing I remembered from childhood, only refreshed and adjusted for this continuation. I often did not even want to skip it. The show also keeps the classic X-Men themes intact. It is still about family, friendship, unity, difference, exclusion, fear, prejudice, and racism in different forms. Sometimes I did feel there was a bit too much repetition about family and the power of friendship, but this is also part of what X-Men has always been. At its best, X-Men works as a metaphor for people rejected because they are different. It reminds us that, deep down, we are not as different as we think. But it also understands that no matter how much people talk about unity, there will always be someone on every side of the conflict who cannot accept that order and tries to break it. Just like in the real world. As for the characters, most of them still feel consistent with who they were. Their personalities are preserved well. The only one who created some dissonance for me was Logan/Wolverine. He felt more restrained and less rough than I remembered him. Not bad, just not exactly the same version that stayed in my head. So yes, this is a 9/10 for me. Not objectively. Not pretending to be objective. But if an episode of a “cartoon for kids” gives me chills, makes me emotional, hits my childhood nostalgia from every possible angle, and still manages to tell a story that genuinely pulls me in, then I do not have much more to add. I will definitely watch season 2, probably in one long sitting.

I’ve been absolutely disgusted with how bad the MCU has been since Endgame. Their multiverse saga has been absolute ass IMO. I was worried when I heard they were going to start doing X-Men content - very worried. Well, I’m happy to say that they killed it. This is everything I wanted in this show. It’s literally like they never stopped making the cartoon back in the 90’s. If Disney does this good of a job with a live-action X-men saga - we are so back.

Cons: I literally can't think of any. Pros: Dare I say perfection? This show is emotional. The animation is beautiful, and the sound track is amazing. The villains can be both intriguing and disturbing. It has a killer intro and end credits music. The story lines are deep and complicated with delicious plot twists. This show had me conflicted and even in tears at one point. What a masterpiece.

With the iconic X-Men show being revamped with newer and cleaner animations this show is an entertaining and deep show talking about societal and political issues and concerns communicated through the show. With many different mutant abilities getting a visual animation upgrade and cameos from different heroes and villains this series was a well thought out and complete show for long time fans to enjoy.

I'm excited for '97's new season. The episodes are very good, but they all have some mistakes, be it disconnection from the original 1992 cartoon, slightly strange dialogue. It's good, but not wonderful.

Too much relationship drama, not enough fighting. Also too weird. The show should be named "X-Men Jerry Springer Edition" because that's closer to what it actually is. Sad.

I hate that people like this show. It is little more than nostalgia bait with a meme attached at the end.

Each episode is CINEMA; from the beginning to the final chapter, this new remake sequel keeps the original recipe and improves in one better way.Every role character in the show has a solid development; I don't remember a boring episode or bad; until the end, the plot keeps on the interest, and you want more minutes because the time flies fast. Marvel should return to their roots and take the opportunity to revitalize their classic TV animation series from the 1990s.

This slaps so hard. I love the risks that the showrunners were willing to take with the narratives, and the commitment to a designated style.

To put this succinctly: X-Men '97 is utterly fantastic. This show has taken numerous steps away from what the original TV series did, and has brought in tension, stakes, themes with real-world parallels, and far more compelling characterization. Saying much more might lead to me spoiling a series that I believe deserves to be watched with no prior knowledge of what actually happens in the show - some knowledge about the X-Men in other media may help, but watching this without that awareness should be no problem. If you have even a passing interest in the X-Men as characters, watch this show - you will not be disappointed.

Serious perfection, and some of the best storytelling in tv period. I really hope losing Beau De Mayo doesn't mess up season 2. I can't imagine why anyone who was even a moderate fan of the original series wouldn't like this. I'm shocked the fan rating is lower than the critics. This is easily a 95% series.

X-men 97 has cool moments and at times weak writing mainly plot and many cameos some of which are very much forced and feel out of place, Beau Demayo clearly has the hots for Magneto and dislikes Gambit and Rogue's relationship from the old show glad he was fired for being a creep, Storm is also pretty miss used with her often doing things she logically shouldn't be doing and her over all writing being pretty bad, character wise Morph is great, Kurt and Gambit are good, Scott and Wolverine are pretty good, Jean and Beast are fine Rogue is fine up until after episode five but then her writing isn't as good afterward, Sunspot or what ever his name is is fine Jubilee and Professor X aren't great, Cable is good and Bishop is fine, Storm is bad and Magneto has good moments but the context of how he's being used is gross.
Animation wise it's a huge step down from the old show at least in consistency, there's a monent when Rogue is doing a kick and it looks so bad and it's very noticeable when ever the camera gets close up on someones face such as Jubilee when the camera is further away it looks fine and even looks pretty good at times but the animation consistency is pretty bad and art style wise the old show looked better, the first few seasons anyway.

"X-Men '97" offers so much for long-time fans of the original show and newcomers alike. Even if some arcs are a little underwhelming.

It's comic accurate. It has great dialogues.
It develops main characters and the relationship between them witch is the core of x men universe.
It's not Wolverine based and that is something i appreciate. it has a lot of action and it develops very quickly.
It has great battles and show x men power in a new level.

Probably one of the greatest things Marvel has created under Disney. Stays true to the original show's essence and pushes it forward with amazing character development and the most engaging story.

X-Men '97 got off to a strong start, with good action and nicely revamped animation. Unfortunately, the series quickly descended into cheap soap melodrama. I know Cyclops has always been a bit of a crybaby, but here they take it to a whole new level. I want to see him laser people and do other badass things, not spend two episodes watching him whine about his marriage and his baby. The series is also, of course, being a Disney show, very female-centric. All the women in the show show strong agency, willpower and the ability to get things done. Almost all the men (with the exception of Magneto) are reduced to whiny crybabies. Gambit is basically the same as Cyclops, except he also makes painfully unfunny jokes and remarks. And, of course, he doesn't have the balls to confess his love. If there was one thing from the old series that the Disney writers wanted to capitalise on, it was of course this trait. Wolverine is almost a supporting character here. And of course, his unrequited love for Jean now becomes his entire personality. Yes, it's not as if we've already seen this storyline played out in the original X-Men film trilogy. Let's just pretend that nothing has happened since 1997 and people are still invested in it somehow. All in all, just a sad attempt at a cash grab. They should have called it Soyjack-Men instead.

Excellent animation maintaining its identity, but delving even further into what X-Men is about.

Wow! Was not expecting this level of awesomeness. Yes, this show does come with the perfect amount of 90s corny, but man the nostalgia and drama, and straight from comic influence blew my mind. Please marvel take note of how to proceed with the movies and don’t blow your load a la batman vs superman rushing to get to doomsday!!!

A animação assim como a história é excelente, uma das poucas produções da Marvel depois de "Ultimato" que eu realmente gostei. Ai Deus, estou amando tanto, cada episódio é melhor que o outro, estou doida para o próximo episódio.

Absolutely awesome show, with a serious upgrade I didn’t believe possible from the original 1992 series. This show has EVERYTHING A SUPERHERO, X-Men and/ or comic fan will LOVE! Drama, power moves that ENGAGEthe viewer and a continuation during a better time in the world, where the X-Men are also serving as role-models for the 18-50 year olds of today!

I loved the original as kid and was excited for this. BUT it becomes so very boring as it goes along, there's barely ANY action. I don't understand, it's a cartoon, how expensive can it be to do action instead of over dramatic boring storylines?

This poorly-named series lacks the mood and themes of the ‘90s. Instead its creator seems bent on making us relive the trauma of the Pulse nightclub and 9/11 terrorist attacks. These are not the X-Men I remember from the ‘90s.

Awesome continue of original series. It become more deeper and adult, the characters develop a lot more than in previus one, storytelling also impoved over original. After watch of 5 episodes I can say it's power up over original (current 5 episode was fire!).

It's great so far! Haters are troglodytes. Honestly, it's choppy animation as that's how the original was. Almost never do I feel genuine nostalgia when some redux of whatever comes out. This is not the case this time. It's seriously borderline perfect - save for some of the voices being different - especially Rogue.

True the original in every way. There's nothing more woke about it that wasn't in the original. Take it with a grain of salt. The X-men Plot, writing, and combat are 100% true to the original and amazing. Disney did not mess it up.

The animation seems off to me, almost like it's vector art with the mouths moving like a Flash animation. Story is okay so far, wish there was more action in a, ya know, comic book superhero cartoon.

Simplesmente o melhor projeto em animação da marvel da atualidade.
A serie consegue tanto fisgar os antigos fãs com a nostalgia como cativar novos espectadores.
A historia esta cativante, a velocidade na medida certa e as lutas estão incríveis!

I was not expecting to like the show as much as I did. The previous animation didn't follow the comics enough for me to enjoy them. Some things here are different, however the crafting of those changes seem to have been given more thought. Including the ending of episode 2 which looks to fix one of the continuity problems I had with the previous animation. Assuming as much care goes into the remainder of the season X-Men fans will have something to enjoy.

Soulless cash grab to sell action figures and merchandise. I wish Disney cared as much about the story as they did merchandise. This show does not resemble X-men 97 at all but they kept the name for toys. This series is supposed to take place the day after season 6 ended but Jean is 8 months pregnant, Professor X is dead (he was just in space at end of show), half the cast has significantly different animation, many voice actors changed (can kinda forgive that one), why are the women not curvy anymore but the mens bodies are still oversexualized. Cmon man im just trying to enjoy my favorite show from childhood but this is not X-men from the 1990s

Honestly, anyone that isn't scoring this show as a perfect 10 what are you doing in life? The nostalgia, the drama, the doing the characters justice, the cool use of their powers, the action - chef's kiss all round! I could speak all day about this show, absolutely amazing!!

At one point, Rogue powerbombs a sentinel and then throws it's head at another sentinel causing it to explode. My inner 9-year old cheered. Also, if any reviewer calls this series "woke" take it as proof that they've never watched/read the X-Men.

I was genuinely surprised how much I enjoyed these first two episodes of the show. It does a good job of picking up from where the original series left off. I had a couple of gripes but they were minor. The show could very well go massively downhill from here, but the first two episodes I had a lot of fun with.
