The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon continues to work because it puts one of the franchise’s best characters in an unfamiliar situation. But now that his partner in zombie-killing is on the way to his side, that should make things even better.

The Book of Carol, despite the story's occasionally clunky reshaping, is still a potent, poignant reunion between two Walking Dead favorites. The action is great, the seasonal resolution works, and the final sequence offers clever catharsis.

The two besties get back to their ass-kicking ways, trying to defeat Marion, save Laurent, and get back to America all at the same time. How they get there is filled with those usual The Walking Dead frustrations, but it's with our two favorite characters, so we can overlook that. Besides, the finale boasts a twist that sets up another season of Daryl and Carol together.

Carol can be an awkward fit into the series at times, but it still lives up to being a show with Daryl and Carol in the title, and for The Walking Dead fans, that’s likely all it needs to be.

Her [Carol] and Daryl’s paths run parallel until about midway through the six-episode season, which is blessedly expedient as such stories go. By then, the meaning of what worked so well in Season 1 begins to fall apart.

If you're a diehard, though, The Book of Carol may give you what you want. After all, the show is made for you. If you're looking for classic-style Walking Dead, with Carol and Daryl camaraderie, creative kills and zombie action, and #TWDFamily, you'll find it. But you won't get anything more.

This season is not as exciting as the first, even with the addition of Carol. Too many times scenarios are too familiar, either because they feel like rehashes of last season or re-dos of something from another "Walking Dead" show.

Season 2 of Daryl Dixon is disappointing and I say that as someone who really enjoyed Season 1. It comes down to 2 big changes they decided to make. The first was the rushed introduction of Carol to the show and the second was the decision to change the filming location to another part of Europe for Season 3. It ended up rushing the conclusion to the Laurent plotline and killing off a lot of characters prematurely so they could switch countries. Essentially they could have fleshed this out over season 2 and 3 before then moving to a different filming location and you'd have had a show that felt less rushed, with better written villains and less character motivations that change on a dime (Losang for example goes from friend to foe on a whim). It would have been better if they gave Carol her own limited season of her getting to France instead of having it playout in 2 rushed episodes and they then could have done a soft rest with everything in season 3.

It is another example of an okay TV show within the TWD universe. Some parts were good but feels like this entire series is grasping at straws to keep stories going and as a big TWD fan, I'm wondering what the point.
