One of my favorite shows of all time. It’s a damn shame there isn’t a season two and I think about that fact daily

Modern art encapsulated. Perfect depiction of a truly alien world. Incredibly, vibrant artstyle with very, very moving scenes. Brilliant characters, with an absolutely, truly wonderful story.

Every once in a while you come across a show that alters your brain chemistry. This is one of them. Both terrifying and comforting, beautiful and horrifying, deeply existential, philosophical, and emotional. That beautifully haunting piano intro, the vivid world that is nightmarish and gorgeous. Like a Miyazaki on acid. It’s hard to explain the journey this series took me on. But it was a journey I needed to be on.

Very unique show about a hyper-biological alien planet, bustling with all varieties of life. The art style is unique too, although it doesn't compare to the styles of high-production western animation like Arcane. That said, I don't get just why the reviews are so high. While the setting is cool, the story and characters aren't. It's a very basic survival story with very little plot or character development. If it wasn't for the unique setting, this would be a very forgetable show.

Overall I liked it. The design of all the strange alien creatures and vegetation is good. Truth be told, the technical execution is not cool. Almost on every pause in the picture shows a lot of flaws and shortcomings. Nevertheless, in dynamics, everything is quite charming and harmonious. The plot is quite engaging. It was interesting to follow the events and the overexertion of the characters. But these multiple plot lines were cut off at the end with "grand pianos". Hmm... I would like to see the 2nd season.

Overall I think this show is pretty much Avatar. Beautiful fauna and flora that just kinda exists without any apparent reason. The more you try to think about the plot, the more you realize there is none. Things just kinda happen and have no longlasting impact. There are some gore scenes, but our main characters never get hurt despite the combat scenes clearly showing they should be. Also the woman is talking to the robot like it's a person, giving it free time, asking if the robot is still upset... wtf? Honestly the more I know about the characters the more I hate them, except for the captain, that guy is fine. The fauna/flora acts as a magic, solving everything the writers need it to without any sense of laws or limitations.

Twenty-five years ago, when the selfishness, corruption and abuses of Hollywood started to become shockingly apparent and mainstream, public backlash caused the film industry to shudder at its approaching day of reckoning. Film and television magnates and their lackies began to shift into overdrive, seeking to supplant facts, weave false narratives and feign integrity at any and all costs. Over the decades, the resulting corporate coping mechanism has become an identity politics schedule which is forcibly inserted into every type of media imaginable… the goal: attempt to present an acceptance of varying minorities and genders in an effort to throw a shadow over past transgressions and gain acceptance from media and activists who would otherwise continue to uncover more dirt, eventually bringing the entire, colossal hive of wretched millionaire playboys tumbling down. As a former professional actor, I’ve seen countless productions completely tank because of this industry imperative to sell out to identity politics: an ideology that film corporations wouldn’t give a damn about if not for their absolute need to save face. You, the consumer, are paying for entertainment. You’re NOT paying to be force fed propaganda; especially not a publicity these companies don’t honestly support. “Scavengers Reign” is a beautiful work or art, blessed with incredible detail, careful consideration and depth of creation, which is completely marred by a nefarious political agenda. Its need to present that ideology completely derails the otherwise wonderful and awe-inspiring creativity that would have propelled this production to universal excellence and acclaim. The message in “Scavengers Reign” of the overwhelming chaos of life and nature and the need to overcome self and selfishness, is quickly supplanted by the argument that the evil (or ineptitude) in all human males is innate and unavoidable. Only women will awaken us to the promised land, and they must govern it. Finally, it also argues that those who cling to a male driven world’s designs, no matter their gender, will suffer. I know the uninitiated are unaware of this truth: the politics of Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner are the politics of the corporate Hollywood monolith: their message is one of prejudice, racism, sexism and hate, especially against white people and Caucasian males. Race and gender advertising is haphazardly injected into this series because it’s a requirement for funding and for acceptance in their social circles; not out of any love or consideration for mankind and its diversity. Consequently, I cannot recommend this streaming series at all. Its cancelation is driven, in no small part, by the conscience of the masses, whose common sense can quickly discern the pretense and disdain that forged it.

Yeah i get it; man bad, man useless. Put a black girl-boss and make it **** again another modern entertainment garbage to enjoy...

Scavengers Reign is one of the best animations I’ve ever seen! The world they have created is utterly alien, beautiful and deadly at the same time with strong Annihilation and Ghibli vibes (especially Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind). The characters, creatures and story were weird, wonderful and highly compelling. I just really hope Netflix approves a second season.

an excellent piece of sci-fi. its a simple story set in an incredibly strange, unsettling, dangerous and, at times, beautiful world. if you're into stuff like Clarke's Rama series, Fantastic Planet and Rainworld/Animal Well, you'll probably like this.

Sci-fi for people tired of repetitious Star Wars tropes. Also for people for whom The Boy and the Heron was pretty but way too under-written to engage or hold the attention of many. Agree, a real break-thru in commercial animation as art:“The twelve-episode series was produced over two years by Titmouse, Inc. and Green Street Pictures with a crew including international animators working remotely from locations including Mexico, Spain, Portugal and France. In May 2024, the series was canceled by Max” - Wikipedia- The star is the French-style sci-fi comic book ecology and fauna artwork. As the human characters are under-drawn, the innovative, more detailed flora and fauna steal every scene they are in. - While human characters are under-drawn, they are NOT under-written. All characters are non-tropy; including, an autism-spectrum boy. The two villains are both complex and therefore engaging. The writers juggle three story lines, sometimes going back to cover back-story. - The most surprising thing is the avoiding of sci-fi tropes at the same time using sci-fi tropes to tell a story never seen before in animation. I've watched other adult animation on Netflix. This has much better writing than most anime movies BY FAR. From the credits, it appears Scavengers Reign had many more writers than the usual Japanese anime, a good thing here.Also unusual, the premise of an accidental colony spaceship hit by solar flares is elided. We only see this in the title sequence with no dialogue, explanation with only evocative sad music describing the initial tragedy. - The inspiration for Scavengers Reign is unclear to me. As an avid SF reader I do know one similar novel. It is Greg Bear's The Way #3 titled “Legacy.” a beautiful place, Lamarckia, has been found. Lamarckia's evolution is stunning and unimaginable. In this Earth-like planet, chlorophyl never evolved. All the plants are red, blue and other colors, not green. A similar weird, surprising ecology as Scavengers Reign developed. Note ~ the Legacy book of Greg's The Way series is the weakest of the three books. Read Eon and Eternity first. They are CLASSIC world-class SF.

It took me a while to love Scavengers Reign. The title is horrible but the stories are interesting. And it takes 2-3 episodes to appreciate the full context of imagination that got into the story and the alien planet. I like the animation and how the characters are not really perfect, some with more flaws then others. It made me think of Fantastic Planet, a movie made in 1973, also animated in scifi and bizarre. I give it 82%. You should watch it if you like Scifi mix with horror

I WON'T support Woke level Blue Politics in movies or shows anymore. It has to stop.

Amazing for anyone who likes science fiction and isn't put off by a unique and weird setting.

I really do not understand the hype. I was looking for something different and refreshing to liven up the rather stale modern sci-fi scene but this was certainly not it and in the end turned out to be quite generic. The visuals are nice but strongly influenced by Moebius and Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind. The characters are annoying as hell, each one worse than the last with super bland and generic 21st century west coast american dialogue. Woke stereotypes are shoehorned constantly throughout the plot without adding anything to the storyline. The storyline itself is really all over the place, with large amounts of the show are dedicated to a superficial display of alien flora and fauna that isn't really explained nor does it often add anything to the storyline. There isn't really any intrigue or plot hook, 4 episodes in I was asking myself if anything was actually going to happen besides seemingly pointless encounters with alien animals.

This outstanding animated series blends sci-fi world building in the manner of The Expanse with alien ecological horrors like in the film Annihilation. The characters and story evolve with top-notch writing. The alien ecology is incredibly imaginative. More people should be talking about Scavengers Reign.

This show need to gain more traction and I hope this review draws more viewers. The story is superb, a constant shift in thrilling sci-fi story telling offering suspense and intrigue. The music too is extremely well executed. A fan was born and will remain with constant hope for a second season.

Pretty beautiful Moebius / Fantastic Planet, with some very annoying voice acting that sounds like people are having casual phone calls no matter what's happening.

Elegantly crafted, yet lacking substance. The animation pleasantly surprises—truly a visual delight with a vibrant and well-thought-out world. There's a noticeable strong influence from Miyazaki's animated films; some scenes are essentially reimagined from "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind." However, the originality present in the latter is missing here, replaced by a slightly different artistic **** absolute lack of logic in the plot is striking. The survivors have been on the surface of an unfamiliar planet for only a couple of months, yet somehow they know how to interact with the local flora, distinguishing what is edible and what is not. Imagine European cosmonauts thrown into the Amazon jungle with equally rich biodiversity—after a couple of months, if lucky, only a few might survive the fever and poisonous plants, not to mention potentially lethal animals defending their territory, driven by fear, self-defense, or seeing humans as potential ****'s another naive idea that the world poses no harm, and every creature is inherently good; you just need to understand and love them. It would be interesting to see how they would run from a bear, a pack of wolves, or an Amur tiger when hungry. Can't we portray a real world with genuinely dangerous animals, where encounters should be avoided? The agenda is the most disappointing aspect. Depicting all men as maniacs, weak, and characterless, while portraying black and LGBTQ women as the only intelligent and sensible characters, is overly stereotypical. The series literally lacks a single strong, normal male character. Moments like these reveal the best and worst qualities of humanity, with men driven to protect, build shelters, hunt, and **** agenda significantly influences the fate of the characters, although nature doesn't care about your skin color or **** the end, it's hard to believe that such brilliant animation and concept are marred by an overtly senseless **** plot and characters show little development. Essentially, the entire series is a journey through a beautiful and unusual world with adventures, yet there's a sense that it's like a modern art exhibition—very unconventional, attractive, sometimes stunning, but essentially empty and created only for the wow **** characters are superficial with a pretense of depth; we know nothing about them and won't learn— they simply play the role of good/bad or kind/evil. As usual, every character has a tragic past, a formula that is no longer compelling if someone close didn't die or if there wasn't an abusive father during **** the end, the series becomes another beautifully crafted yet meaningless "Foundation" or "Brave New World," where perfect shots and a splendid idea are realized in the early episodes, only to realize later that it's just an empty, beautiful cover. This seems to be a problem with many modern series.I recommend watching this animated film while enjoying its positives and overlooking the negatives. And if you want similar extraterrestrial fantasy in the animation genre, watch "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind." Yes, it lacks the computer graphics, but this 39-year-old film is much more thoughtful, original, devoid of agendas, very pure and sincere, and brings great pleasure during viewing.

I'm floored at the attention to detail in bringing the world to life and adding so much character to animated characters. Chris was very well animated in the way you can see the Character thinking exactly what their intent is and that is hard to do in basic 2d animation. in many ways this show could easily mistaken for Rotoscope in some of the animation. in terms of story, Show, Don't tell and let the audience build symbolism from it. Not all things need answers and I found this series a nice character study of survivors trying to survive in an unforgiving environment.

I don't understand why this is so highly rated, the story is like something written by a 12 year old and most of the characters are just annoying. Worst of all, the pace is soooo slooooow, this could all have been covered in a single 45 minute video.

The best show of 2023 and the best SF since... Annihilation, maybe? So good! A lot of Moebius vibes. An extremely imaginative ecosystem is kind of a character in the story too. Simply amazing. Give it a go!

Interesting. An unexpected blend of OLD school pulp comics style sci fi, with some flashes of 1990s weirdness like from The Maxx or Aeon Flux with a dash of Studio Ghibli thrown in for good measure. Its definitely unlike most modern sci fi. It truly feels like an alien world and humanity is a tiny little spec on that food chain. Pros: Unique/rebooting of dead styles Story telling that is far more visual American aesthetics in an "anime" form. Cons: Too slow of pacing Just filling the screen with conceptless aliens is not world building. By virtue of being MAX label it does have that air of pretentiousness bore into the DNA of HBO shows. Its been a good run for American style anime. Between this and Pantheon, there is hope for the genre if we can start creating more efforts like this and break the mold that Japanese anime rigidly forces on audiences. So watching this show was both nice and unexpected. In fact I ignored it all together until about Week 8 and finally started researching it. It doesnt quite live up to the hype for it, but it absolutely is a good show that needs to continue to evolve more. Id say 7.25 out of 10 but round down to 7 for required even numbers. Hopefully the last 3 episodes of the season will build up something powerful for a second season.

This is one of the best Sci-Fi shows ever made. It deserves the praise and is groundbreaking. The world building is incredible. Every frame is teeming with creatively made alien species that range from the practical to fantastical. This show packs something that Sci-Fi desperately needs. Imagination. An ode to the Sci-Fi novels and comics of the 1970s. This show touches up on new frontiers in science. At times showing a mix of biology and technology that hasn't really been seen before. This show doesn't just use bio-punk aesthetics for shock value. It displays entire life cycles of species in ways that come off like a nature documentary. This show is light on dialogue. Despite that the characters are well developed. They are complicated and have layers of motive. You learn about their backstories briefly and most of their story is displayed through acts of survival. The producers used the lack of dialogue to enhance the mystery. Hard to explain the level of creativity and detail. You not only see alien species. You see the web of life on the planet. You see coevolution. You see predator and prey strategies. All on a massive scale. There are not that many examples of detailed alien worlds done like this. This is something you've never seen before. This came out of nowhere and shook me to my core. 10/10

Incredible creative high concept show. No holding hands, no useless dialogue to bring up even the most imprudent up to speed and no exposition talk. Beyond that technical film making stuff the show is the most imaginative thing since The Incal

Studio Ghibli meets 'Annihilation.' A dark and twisted sci-fi tale with a very graphic imagery. The existential angle is pretty good.

Overrated and overhyped garbage.

The animation quality can get very choppy at times. Voice acting can be dodgy too. In terms of story, it's like a cross between Solaris, The Flintstones, and Lost in Space.

Fantastic! First truly creative science fiction since a long time! Fantastic world building and the story shows characters that have learned and are learning about the alien world they stranded on in an intelligent way.

10/10 for me. I like everything about this, but especially the animation. The world this team created is absolutely beautiful and fascinating at every turn. The plot is compelling, voice acting is on point. Even the incidental music is great. The first three episodes went by far too quickly.

One episode in and I'm hooked ! Reminds me a lot of the Laloux/Moebius film "Les Maîtres du temps" which is an all time favorite. Atmospheric vibe, clear plot, but set in a whimsical and at times terrifyingly unfamiliar world. Instead of constantly explaining everything, things are mostly presented starkly for the viewer to accept or wonder about. Excited to see more.
