The overall result is a first season that has its flaws, but features enough delightful weirdness to intrigue those willing to give it a chance.

Friday’s premiere consists of two episodes, which is good, because two hours is about how long it takes you to acclimate to the tone and intent. In the third episode, a doozy, the show’s grip on you really tightens.

I cannot believe they canceled this series. I had really enjoyed it because it was different story on an old story. I bought this whole series via Itunes store and I did that because I do not like how many commercials are on regular television. You have 15 min of show and 15 min of commercials.

When Emerald City builds much of its narrative around how weird and edgy the place is, it just feels tired. You’ve seen this take on Oz before--and done better.

Emerald City's ambitious pretensions of being the next great adult dark fantasy keeps colliding with childish, clumsy tendency toward unpleasant shock value. [2-15 Jan 2017, p.19]

Emerald City is a turgid attempt at fantasy burdened by the weight of its own pretensions.

We soon begin to see the method behind this show’s storytelling: If there’s a way to pump more pretentious gas into the story, Emerald City will find it.

One of the very best TV series I have ever seen. The one of the very few that don't repeat usual 'TV story' narrative patterns. So it may be 'confusing' if one wants to feel safe, knowing how this all may end from the very start. It's a feast for eyes, someone who did this knows visual arts history and has a good taste.

This is one you will just have to watch to know for yourself. I found myself both interested and waiting for the next scene, It does not present itself well as a story, but does make you curious as to what is going on. It sets itself apart by being more dark, the land is barren, the characters are desperate, the tone is depressing and slow. I would say, watch the first episode for sure, its quite a different take though.

This show is jumbled and, well, interesting. It's trying to be fantasy, and steampunk, and dark, and edgy all at once, and that's how it gets lost within itself. I think I enjoy the show, and I will keep watching if nothing more than to see where it goes.

Style over substance can only carry a show so far. This Wizard of Oz Apocalypse Reborn quickly became a slog to watch. Creative team dropped a big 'ol house on this "event" series.
